Thanks for tuning in! How do you think Yamaha’s e-bike motor stacks up against the competition? If you were in the market for a new e-bike which motor would you chose and why? Drop your opinions and experiences in the comments-I love hearing from you!
At the present the new Bosch CX race motor would be my choice. Having said that I think DJI may have just turned ebilke motor manufacturing on its head. My only concern with the DJI is reliabilty and any associated drivetrain issues that may follow from all that power.
They have been right there with the other top brands and Think they will remain there maybe even jump into the lead. there Ebikes here in the U.S. didn't seem to take off.
I have a 2 Yamaha ebikes a moro7 and a Wabash gravel bike. There the best motors out there! Was sorry to see them go, but I ready for a comeback, there not gonna fail! The Wabash just finished a 9 month around the world by Nick Sanders. First ebike to do it. 0 problems!
I didn't know about the round the world ride. Thanks for sharing. Yes, like you, I am hoping Yamaha make a big comeback.
As Yamaha has been making motors with gearboxes for 70 years I hope they would follow Pinion and make one for eMTB!
Agreed. I hadn’t considered their gearbox experience from their motorbike & marine product ranges. It seems like they (along with the other established motor manufacturers) have been caught napping by Pinion & DJI. It wouldn’t surprise me if a gearbox was now in the pipeline though. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Yep put the gears in the motor with no Rear cogs to get dirty and wear out! Pinion is the future certainly they will be copied soon I hope!
If I was Shimano and Yamaha, I would get together and make a cooperation project to manufacture an industry benchmark gearbox for emtb and jump ahead of everyone.
Now at 4,761km with my 2022 Reign E+, Yamaha PW-X3. plenty of power, no issues, many over the air firmware updates. Giant seems to be Yamaha’s last significant customer, a very large one, I doubt they will remove Yamaha motors from their line-up given the reliability. My 2 cents...
Thanks for your comment. I agree, I can't see Giant switching to another motor supplier anytime soon. Glad to hear you've been enjoying your Reign.
I bought an ebike woth Yamaha motor and it was so much smoother and quieter than Shimano and bosch and it didnt have the extra wheel that bosch has and breaks and needs replacing... Yamaha are brilliant at everything they do...i think it was simply commission agreements that made companies push the other brands... Yamaha was way better but didnt get the publicity for consumers to realise....
Thanks for sharing. Great to hear that you're enjoying your Yamaha motor.
Im all for Bafang....😀👍🔥🚀
Thanks for your comment. Out of interest whereabouts are you located. We don't see a great deal of Bafang motors in the UK market, but they seem very popular in the US.
@ebikecentre im in Australia & its free shipping from China..I have many Bafang motors & had zero issues with over 7000klm ridden on them...
I have found bits of metal and cling film in Bafang pinion gear shaft bearing bores?
I have a haibike with 2000 Yamaha PWX2 Motor
Lots of power, 2K miles
No problems
Great to hear that you've been enjoying your Haibike. Thanks for watching and commenting.
They needed to do a MGU I'm sure this will be the future for emtb.
Completely agree. The derailleur's days are numbered. Thanks for watching.
Gotta agree... my next eMTB will definitely have an MGU.
I will choose bosch definitely if I buy new ebike.
Bosch are undoubtedly the market leader and most popular motor manufacture at the moment. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Perhaps an ebike motor with a more open software model and updates, not a closed thing like Bosch €€€. Is Yamaha following this closed model too ?
This is the last year Yamaha is producing snowmobiles. I wonder if there’s a big shape up going on there that is affecting things across the board
Really? I didn't know that. Yes, it does sound like there is some serious restructuring going on within their motor division. Thanks for sharing and watching.
Hmm, 🤫 This makes me wonder... What if Yamaha are thinking of e-motors in snowmobiles as well as bikes, with a common standard for motor mounts and battery connections? Are e-motors the future for motorbikes too?
@ there is some snowmobile attempts at electric, Taiga is a small company at the head of the push. The cold , weight and in particular refuel is really crushing the technology competing with gas.
@@ebikecentre just more information, they started making the motors for Arctic Cat, who left there long time relationship with Suzuki. Around 2010 or probably 2913? They slowly started using Cat chassis more and more till they were a full mix and now stopping completely with their own brand. They also stopped racing snow cross many years ago. They’re the only brand to go full four stroke. Two strokes outsell the fours and Yamaha sold the least amount of sleds.
I had a bike with a yamaha motor, I had two successive motor failures from pedal strikes. I have noted that later models still have the same susceptibility, it appears they didn't fix the gear stripping issue. Although the failures were covered under a protracted warranty, I will avoid the brand.
BS. The Yamaha motor is very reliable. No problem since 10 Years and 30.000 km…
Interesting to hear that you haven't had a great experience with Yamaha. As a shop, we've had the odd broken motor, (and they had a bad batch of batteries) but overall we have found them to be reliable. I hope you have a better experience with your next bike. Thanks for watching and commenting.
It all comes down to value and robustness. Sucks they are leaving the US Market.
Agreed, on both counts. Thanks for watching.
From what I know Yamaha at least design their motors to be repairable, shimano for the other hand don't.. I think emtb community should boycott shimano for that practice, they do not produce any spare parts to their ebike motors, they do not extend warranty if they replace motor.. I would like to see more brands makes bikes with Yamaha instead of shimano but we all know how powerful is shimano..
Anything that's not as powerful or more then the DJI will be DOA. People want more power, good wireless on-board systems with a useful screen. Anything else is obsolete...
If yamaha came out with 110nm-120nm gearbox motor combo = game over, would be the only thing any MTB/comuter would ever want.
The power of the DJI motor is mightily impressive. Although, interestingly, from the feed back we have received in some of our videos and in-store, not everyone is sold on the need for more powerful motors, but an integrated motor-gearbox-unit does seem to have been universally well received.
I agree with you, should Yamaha be the first of the "mainstream" manufacturers to come out with an MGU, I think they could bring themselves back to the front of the pack. Thanks for commenting and watching.
😂 yamaha was never a power house in the e-bike world
🎉
I have 2 Rocky Mountain Powerplays, a little bit nervous right now. 🫢
I bet. Its been a tough few years for the bike industry. Lets hope RM come out the other side. They would be a big loss.
