Craig you are having Meing kham with herbs such as lemongrass, crispy shallots/garlic, crispy chili, roasted peanut wrapped in green leafs with sweet and savory rice crispy paste. It's the best snack bite you can find.
That sale guy stall you went , he is making pizza crust. Passion fruit are secretly good for weaponry man. Feeding a homeless person is good. In case is local voluntary group rescue needs. You make me mouth watering in the morning. You deserve a big thumb.
One of my favorite videos from you!! Loved watching you try all these delicious (and crazy cheap) treats!! Would love to see more videos like this one. Wish you could stay in Laos. Take care!!
Hahaha the reactions to some of the foods was funny especially the passion fruit, like downing some hard liquor. I hope we can do a weeks trip to Luang Prabang next year as part of our first return to our Isaan family in 3 years, maybe we will try the new train trip there.
I remember a khao piak lady at the end of the market. She has a corner stall. The absolutely best khao piak I’ve ever had in my life! I eat at her table 6 times. I think about her always. I wonder if she’s still there. 🤔
Omg! I wanted some of that sticky rice popsicle that u wanted to call it!! We cannot wait until Covid is over with! So we can go back to visit Laos again! Keep up the good work!
Graig, you are very respectful and considerate. I'm sure it's hard trying to communicate with the Lao people and you do your best. I'm sad to see you go.
Watching you eat those wrapsnacks made me think of the time when I was there 4 years ago. I miss eating these delicious snacks. The paste like substance is made from dried sticky rice grounded up and mixed with salt. The roti is actually a popular snack from India. Very tasty. 😊😊 but very cheap!!!
It amazes me how they have so much confidence in the egg that they just break it straight on the pancake. I've never been able to not think it's wiser to break it in another plate just to make sure it's not spoiled
@@Craig_Black I'm probably the only one who's been so unlucky to have at least one bad egg in each crete I've bought in Thailand, Cambodia and/or Lao. Perhaps I'm just not good at telling bad eggs from the outside. I still need to learn this skill. Great video BTW
Loving your videos mate. Have you got any videos on how/why you started travelling and how you sustain it financially? How long have you been travelling and how do you find travelling alone? Thanks!
You should have eaten KANOM KROK one at a time, you know, open face, blow off the heat, then eat, in order NOT to burn your mouth. One of my favourite childhood snack. I like the crispy part, and the soft pudding-like the middle. Yummy!
Try papaya salad with wild ripen olive if you are in Isaan region since you are in Thailand now, it will give you the Umami flavor as well, and when you drink water afterward, the water will taste sweet in your mouth.
I really feel lucky 😊 it’s not been the easiest thing to just stay in a foreign country during the pandemic. It’s been scary, confusing and intimidating but I love this place so much.
I usually ate that Roti in my country Thailand and my next holiday in Thailand I will go for that. I saw many things you showed us about food or fruits on this TH-cam same as in Thailand and I have only been to Vientiane เวียงจันทน์.
Man, I was just there in 18, and I'll tell you what?....I didn't get to do half the Shhhhhhhhhtz you did! My wife and kids had a blast though. Craig, try the Southern part of Laos.
@@Craig_Black- Can't argue with that. We were in Paksong for a few days. My wife's from the Wat Phu area so I get to travel the Southern parts a lot. I'm hoping to hit the upper north parts of Laos on our next trip. I've traveled to many countries, but Laos seems to be the most comforting for me. I'm more relaxed when I'm there. Heck, I was in Thailand for no more than 22 hours and I was just aching to escape. Same thing with Hong Kong and Singapore. Beautiful, but just not my type. I'm the boondocks kind of dude. I've had enough of the modern life's daily grind. Hope you're trips are always fun and safe.
You made me craving for all sour fruits with spicy chilli dips 😋yummy. Thought you are leaving Laos soon? When are you leaving? Hope you have a wonderful travels to Sri Lanka 🇱🇰👍☺️
This sour passion fruit sequence... so funny... awesome 🤣 👌 My favourite fruit! Will miss your vlogs from Laos. So sad you are leaving. Peace from Malaysia ✌
@@Craig_Black Mee and Sen can both mean noodles but it's hard to explain. You can hear her say, "Sen pho (pho noodles)" and "Sen kow poon (vermicelli noodles used in kow poon soup)". So if you stir fry the Sen pho, it's then called cua mee or stir fried noodles. She also said, "seem boh?" When you were asking about the crispy rice. Which means, "do you want to taste it?"
It was many reasons really, we went there for two weeks and ended up there for two years and it became impossible to travel Laos. Our goal was to outlast the global travel ban, we didn’t know if it was possible but very fortunately it was. We’ll be back though for sure.
Most people don’t use gloves here. I’ve kinda just forgotten about it. I don’t think I’ve gotten sick from food in Laos but I certainly have in Thailand. Maybe I’ve just got lucky
@@Craig_Black yes true, its a lot to think about. When do you think you'll get around to cutting your hair? You want to look like a man right? too many effeminate looking 'men' out there already.

Might have to run to the bathroom after that mango!!! Lol
The paste is roasted eggplant base with garlic and chili. There are variations on that wrap, depending on the region of the country.
Craig great vlog again, how you will miss that place. Really do enjoy your posts and will miss them when you leave, best wishes to you both.
Bo kin Sen (send)=don't eat noodle
Bo kin Sean= don't eat meat
The woman selling noodle was confused 😀
“If electricity was a flavour this would be it”..........that has to be the best description of a food I have ever heard. 😂😂😂👍👍👍
Haha
I had those coconut pancakes from the night market there. So good!
I love how funny your face looks when you eat something very sour! Lol “if electricity was a flavor” WTH Lol 😂

We can see a vendor selling roti almost everywhere but I've never seen Miang (tidbits wrapped in leaves) like this in my place before.
They are healthy foods in Laos and called “Mieng”.
It amazes me how they have so much confidence in the egg that they just break it straight on the pancake. I've never been able to not think it's wiser to break it in another plate just to make sure it's not spoiled

And breakfast was on the bank of the Mekong where there was a translation problem over how long to boil eggs for!😂
Watch out Mark Wiens! Love your taste descriptions .

Lost in translation lol. The noodle lady was saying Sen (noodles) and you were saying Seen (meat). She was saying Sen Mudt = "it's all noodles." Lol

She said ‘mee’ it mean noodle as well

Sen = Strings. Mee, Pho, and Kow poon are in the same group "Strings or Sen". You can call Sen Mee, Sen Pho, and Sen Kow poon.

It says Sabaidee Luang prabang = Hello Luang prabang.
