Thanks for posting. Every time I hear those buzz coils it tells me they are ready to bite somebody. Sort of like a rattlesnakes' warning.

Yes I know, I have many of them. It is double hitting. If you will take one spring off and start it, it will hit once and coast insted of hit hit hit then miss

i agree ..i payed $20 for a rusty old 2hp h&m at a garage sale....the outside of the engine was a rust bucket but the internals were near perfect..i pulled it apart and oiled everything up and with a little elbow grease she runs perfect...i saw another one recently that was a 5hp galloway and the guy wanted $100 for it and i am picking it up this weekend. so i agree 2k for a model is a bit much.

    I got a 1-1/2 hercules, a 3hp ideal, 1hp fairbanks eclipse, a 2-1/2 economy, and few maytags and briggs

You're not looking hard enough then :) even if you were to go for an average price of $500-$800 for one thats still not even 1/2 the price of a "model" which ive seen range from $4000+, if you wan't to buy something to build why not buy that broken one for $400 and refurbish it? We have multiple antique engines where I work and their not that difficult to find parts for (not to mention the Antique Gas and Steam fair is just 20 minutes away too).

You cant get a full size for 200, the least i'v seen was 400 and it was non-working. And this is a real thing, just small.

That looks like very nice engine, but it needs some serious fine tuning. It could run a lot better than that.

Whats the point? You can buy a real Hit Miss engine for less than $200, less than $60 if its beat up good. It's very cool and all, but I would NEVER pay more for a toy than the real thing.

Apparently you don’t get the point.
It takes tremendous skill and patience to machine this kit.
Anybody can buy a finished or pre- machined engine.
The point is simply to be creative and derive joy from that.
I’m assuming you just don’t have the skill to do what this gentleman has done.

I have never seen a hit and miss engine in a condition that would take little repair for less than 200 dollars. The closest thing I've seen is a hit and miss that was complete rust and needed a restoration that would cost a lot more than just 200 bucks. You're not going to be able to find a cheap hit and miss.
