Hello Hermoine from Arizona! Although I am an older single lady , I feel a kinship with you and l'm inspired by your home tending skills. I am also a big believer in "shuffling" items around... lamps, plants, small furniture, cushions etc.. I refer to it as "shifting the energy" in my little cottage and I often find a new or better place for an object I already own without having to buy something else.
My motto is "create or suffer"... not suffer in the sense of lack, rather suffering by a sense of stagnation... I am happiest when in a creative state. Cheers to you dear girl, keep creating and making the world a lovlier place!

The dump can be an amazing place. My parents were working on their first home and was taking materials to the dump. One particular trip they spotted an old platform rocking chair that had been stuffed in someone's attic. They could see the outline of the box that had been left on the seat. My folks took it home and cleaned it up - a free rocking chair in good condition was a Find, after all. A few months later a friend came to visit and saw the chair. My folks were dumbfounded to learn their free chair was worth a few thousand dollars (and this was back in the 1950's). I've seen only 1 or 2 similar chairs since - in museums.

That's awesome! I found many of my current home items "on the curb". Including the little desk I'm writing this from. This was "thrown away" 7 years ago, and it's still serving its main purpose!

Our family has a classic claw-foot tub which was found at the tip (dump) we repainted it in thick glossy enamel and it's gorgeous.
Mum was also given an incredible mid-century lounge suite by a lady who was throwing it out and had brought it in on a trailer - she stripped it, refinished the wood and recovered the cushioning in the most amazing velvet, it's amazing.

my favourite budget DIY find was when i framed a cool graphic pillowcase from IKEA. i found it in the bargain basement as ex-display for i think £1.50 for the single pillowcase. i just cut it in half and put each piece in a photo frame (IKEA actually do frames that are the exact size of a pillowcase cut in half so each half stretched nicely over the wood backing). it was insanely inexpensive compared with buying prints and the two matching panels look great above my bed. also i'd love to see some thrifting tips. i only ever find really naff stuff!

Our resource processing plant has a second hand shop where they sell reusable things that people are going to chuck in the rubbish. Have found some bargains there to help with our renovations. Hermione, I LOVE your style even though I'm a bit older, I've noticed my shopping habits tend to be buying quantity rather than quality when homeward sales are on. Do you have any tips for how to stay focused with your style and know when to add a $35 cushion rather than buying 3 $20 cushions and u end up not liking them in the end so u give them away lol
Edit: I wrote this at the beginning while looking at your beautiful bed cushions before u explained about shop tagger lol but if u know of any phone apps where u can cut and paste items to a mood board plz let a girl know 💙

I’ve done a few ficus water propagations, but it does take weeks to see any roots. I cut my last one at the beginning of lockdown & only now it’s started to form little white blobs that roots will eventually form from. Just be patient and change the water every week as it helps with oxygen or something like that 😅

I don't know if you know Freecycle. It works worldwide. You sign up after choosing your city or town ( you maybe even be able to set up a new group if there isnt one nearby) and you can ask for or offer any kind of items. I'm in the Madrid group and I've been given loads of interesting things and been able to give away things I didn't want anymore or other people had requested. There are these type of local groups also on Facebook. Search for local groups on internet and you might be surprised by the amount you're going to find. Take care lots of love ❤
