Where were you doing the grouse and woodcock hunting? Would be nice if you talked a bit about the difference in habitat. I live in Central NY State, and haven't even seen a woodcock.

Grouse are the easiest game bird to hunt. Well, not if you use a dog, an annoying beeper and, a dog that requires a gps for you to find him. Too much going on there. Relax. Walk a trail or a sideroad in the bush. Much more enjoyable!

I love hunting, but all these beepers and bells they have today drive me absolutely nuts! I go in the woods to get away from beepers and bells.
those beepers should only go off on point. Those beep constantly while they are moving.

grouse are NOT easy but you're right all that noise and too many guys in one place to be enjoyable.
Peter Eno spruce grouse or "fool hen" as they are known yes, but ruffed grouse are elusive and challenging even for experienced hunters.

Ruffed Grouse in the Northwoods are most certainly not an easy hunt.
