    Talking mini swales and how we blend back to eden, no till, into an easy garden layout that just gets better with time. The tool I couldn't remember by name is an A-frame level and I will have Daniel show you how to use one soon! Or you can google it ;) Thank you Rachel for the wonderful gift box! Y'all have a blessed Sunday.

    Digging the mulch out of the swales and onto the berms each season when its had a year to decompose, then refreshing the swale path is also another way to follow them up next season. 😊

    I love that Natasha is so excited about gardening! The swales look great. Free wood chips are the best; that's what I use for all of the walkways on our property. I'm so glad that you enjoyed the package, it was so much fun putting it together for you! I love the clip at the end of your little sweetie in the garden, she's getting so big!

    Hey Abby Jo! I like what you're doing for your garden. The A frame is a great tool for swale construction. I'm not sure I would use the term swale for these though. Swales are technically tree growing systems, and they may need more space between them to be effective for that. These may be more along the line of raised beds, and I think this would definitely be a great system for that.

      🤔 hmm, I’ve seen many people take the swale concept and grow veg and fruit in them and we usually do ours on contour. That’s how we did our food forest at my parents and it worked well. We notice that everything gets really watered well. I’ve seen other people on TH-cam calling them micro swales. But hey I could be wrong 🤷‍♀️😊

      @@ForgottenWayFarms they are absolutely great for starting food forests and hydrating the landscape. 😀
      I think the only real danger is you want to make sure they stay planted. I think they are mainly used with trees because they stay planted and help stabilize the mound. If the mound isn't planted it may have an erosive effect.
      Putting the swales too close together may have diminished returns. Swales are super effective, because water flows down slope and moves 90 degrees on contour. So when a swale is built on contour it moves along the bottom of the basin. If they are too close together the swale closest to the top of the slope will get the most water. The others will collect water just not as much.

      Green Dream Project Makes sense 🙌 you know we did similar ones in our front yard in town on contour and we kept them planted with garlic, flowers and veg. And what’s crazy is we had two dying trees that had bugs, and by two years in the trees came back to life, no more bugs and everything turned out so lush a beautiful. I will have to show you pics sometime. We also keep the mounds mulched once planted. I also think the heavy two feet of chopped wood mulch does wonders ❤️ it seems are forest area works well with it too! Thank you for the great feedback 😁😎👏 we will have to all hang out one day and talk more homesteading!

    What a fantastic video. I probably say that a lot but this us my favourite to date.. 😍 The garden is absolutely brilliant. I've saved videos from MI gardeners on tiny raised bed swales(?) , I suppose you could call them . Where he uses old hay then can leave his plants to thrive after they get their roots down. I really, really love that idea. We have to pump all our garden water here so it's too precious to waste and I love how much time it saves too. This... Your way is something I want to do... So good. Great work Natasha 💪👩‍🌾. Unboxing! How gorgeous is that stuff. Chickens! Love!🐔🐓💜💜And beautiful mug, yay. And not to forget that adorable nature girl, exploring with her big brown eyes and dirty knees. So adorable.💕

      @@ForgottenWayFarms its fantastic, can you expand on the watering you use, frequency etc and the reapplication of shredded mulch, frequency of that too. I'm seriously excited about this.

    How does your water flow from one to another is it in the middle. We have a steap property with lots of water loss in a rain storm with water running through pipes in the walls to our neighbors yard. I would like to stop that flow. Whe have a sloped area just before the wall that I would like to try this. How deep is the trenches

    O.k. I love that idea! Our soil is heavy clay. I have several raised beds, but also have a huge space that truthflly this "lazy" idea would work for! I LOVE it! I about kill myself weeding, not to mention sinking after a soaking rain not to mention, the seeds that are too wet. I'm going to show this to my husband too, since I'm not the woman I use to be strenght wise....just wait....(smile). Question, do you ever rotate the swales? Like you mound it, mulch it the way you did for a few years then rotate the soil? Thanks.

    • @ForgottenWayFarms
      @ForgottenWayFarms  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you ❤️ No, I just keep adding good manure and mulch to the mounds every year and that keeps feeding the dirt 💪❤️
