Hi. I use several mold releases depending on the application. 10 coats of mold soap in the plaster molds, carnauba wax with a bit of turpentine before layering the paper, vaseline and mineral oil when making a plaster mold from plasticine. I talk about them in various videos and there's a video about specific releases. Thanks for asking. 🙂
Hi Roberta. As far as I know, I’m the only one sculpting this way, in three dimensional sculpture using plaster molds. I learned a paper mache technique from a Portugués man making Venetian masks. He sculpted almost the same way, except I added the flanges and mortice and tenon joints so that I can glue the sculpture parts together. I’ll talk more about it in #4 and in the following videos. Thanks for asking. ❤️Diane
Hello! These are beautiful! And so exciting! I’ve been thinking about doing paper sculptures myself. One question. Since the craft paper is recycled, it can’t be acid free. I’ve had paper crumble within a very few years. Does the PVA glue stabilize the fibers enough to make it archival? Thank you!
Thank you🙂 I have some of my first sculptures, and they're in perfect condition after many years. I've also sold several which have held up fine despite being subjected to high humidity and extreme weather where I live. Of course they wouldn't last outside, but houses here are open air.
very good. looking forward to seeing the rest. Very original and inventive.
Thank you so much Ken. I appreciate it. 🙂
Very excellent presentation.
Thank you. 😊
HI, What did you use as a mold release?

This is a fascinating process. Is it your invention?
