Funny how time can age art. If I listened to this in like 2014/2015 just before Soundcloud rap really blew up, I would think it’s super innovative and fresh but the better part of a decade later, tracks like this come across like a musical mid-life crisis.
When you commit to the part of a gimmick artist you really only have like two/three years at best in the spotlight before your act wears thin, and that’s why it’s important to use that time changing up your act and bringing something new to the table. That’s what people like 21 Savage did and that’s why he’s still here putting out hits. In retrospect it’s easy to see how talentless the whole Soundcloud roster of rappers were considering how few of them actually maintained a career after their few years in the sun....
