  • In March, we Re-turned to diffractive methodologies. Over three weeks, our reading group investigated some (unpublished) work on diffraction, culminating in five questions for our panelists.
    1. Are some concepts beyond rescue (e.g. interpretation)? How does diffraction relate to interpretation in postqual research. And how can the notion of interpretation be reclaimed/reappropriated, if at all?
    2. How do you prepare yourself for the in/determinacy of a diffractive reading of a ‘text’ (in the broad sense). Can you give a brief example? In what way is it different from how you prepare for a reflective/reflexive reading?
    3. The diffractive methodology involves decentring the human and at the same time the researcher is ontologically entangled. How does this tension of decentring but not erasing the human in theory and practice?
    4. A diffractive happening brings about difference that matters (in its double meaning) but how can we discern what matters if there is no active subject?
    5. Are some ‘texts’ more generative to diffract through than others. And if so, can you as a researcher decide this beforehand?
