I have always liked this setup. First time I saw this was in the early 80's down in Land Between the Lakes ORV area. Camper and room for a bunch of dirt bikes. (pre SXS times). Ha.
Awesome setup! My camper weighs 5,000 lbs dry weight but with all my gear probably pushing +6,000 lbs. Last time I weigh my truck w/ camper I was pushing 500 lbs above my 16,000 GVWR limit on my 2007 F-450 (I should have purchased a F-550.) So I was considering getting a cargo trailer to offload some weight from the camper but now that I found your setup I am having doubts about those plans.
Virginia, "the nastiest roads you ever want to be on"? come to Cali if you want to really test it out on the worst roads in the union! Great idea and build thanks for sharing.
That looks like a very nice and simple setup, and probably tows better that a bumper pull trailer, some of these 5th wheel campers seem to very much overkill and get to the stage where you need a class 7 or 8 truck to safely pull it.
Great and creative! Imagine that the main difference if one were using a regular hitch instead of 5th wheel/ Gooseneck would be the big change in hitch weight when the "garage" is full with a Polaris/ other toy vs when there is nothing there to add weight in the back. Possible the difference would affect driving characteristics, especially without a weight distributing hitch. Not an issue if one is aware before hand to account for it though. Enjoy.
🤔 It was hard to find, I searched all over for just the right one. If I remember right it's a Highway Product Inc. product. I pulled the name tags off in 2017 so I hope that's right.
This is very similar to what I want to do, but I would place the camper so it wasn't over the trailer neck. I'd use that space for storage (air compressor, generator, tool box, etc).
Yeah, truck camper tie down points are intended to be used with a tie down with some level of elasticity to them otherwise you’ll eventually tear your tie downs out.
The camper has jacks on all 4 corners, I had brackets made that extend those jacks out 6 inches to clear the trailer fenders and then just back the trailer under the camper and let it down on the trailer. I'm going to do another video on some improvements and the jacks.
Mine came with the camper. If you Google Truck Camper Steps it will give you several options. E-Trailer.com, Amazon, CampingWorld etc. Hope that helps.
How do you load the camper on the trailer. We inherited a 1993 camper but only have a half ton truck that doesn't have enough payload for the camper. I do have an 18 foot flatbed trailer I use to haul a compact tractor. Would like to move the camper out to our trees acreage as a mini cabin.
The camper came with electric jacks, one for each corner. They lift the camper and you back the trailer under it then let the camper down on the trailer.
Great video, We live close to you and I’ve seen your rig around town. I’m glad to finally see your setup and thoughtful design. I believe your RZR is registered as street legal, correct? I would like to know the process you used to register it. Thanks.
Hi, yes it is street legal with an out of state tag. Of course I had to do all the D.O.T. stuff, windshield, turn signals, mirrors, tires, insurance, etc. I think Ga. should have the tag process for UTV's on county roads ready by now. I'll see what that means for me and my tag, Where being on the road before was a gray area, it's now spelled out by law what roads a UTV can operate on. I wouldn't go through the process of getting an out of state tag that Ga. might not honor unless you really feel you need one for other states. If you see me in town stop and say hello. Thanks
@@tyrannyresponseteam9534 Thanks for the reply. It was a year ago this week that we hauled our Polaris UTV’s to West Virginia to ride the Hatfield McCoy trail systems and stayed in cabins. Your rig would be great for this outing. I recently purchased a new Honda CRF300 Rally and went to the DMV in Columbia County to register and I asked about registering my Polaris UTV for driving on road, and the person was aware but could answer no questions. We often ride through your neighborhood from D*****Branches on our UTV’s in the evening. If we see you out, I’ll make sure I say hello.
Nice setup! I imagine you did it this way because you stated you already had the trailer. If you did not have the trailer, would you have just put the camper in the P/U bed and bought a regular tow-behind flatbed trailer?
Marshall Good Question: Many times we go for a week at a time, it's nice to have the truck available without unhooking from utilities at the campgrounds. This way I can just drop the trailer and use the truck as needed.
Where did you get the trailer? I’m looking at doing a similar setup. My truck camper weighs 4600lb dry (a Host Mammoth with 3 slides). Nice setup by the way! Cheers
Ken The trailer manufacturers name is Down Two Earth, If I remember right I believe they are located in Baxley Ga. I purchased it in 2017 so you may need to do some Googling on them. I paid $5,200 for it built to my specifications. Have a Blessed Day
Colin, I'm not sure, I pulled a 5th wheel camper for 2 years. It's bedroom, bath, and most of the kitchen area were all in front of the axles. The camper was around 13,000 lbs. I can tell you this set up doesn't feel as heavy on the back of the truck while in tow, the camper is only 2200 lbs. It does however feel better pulling when the Razor is on the back of the trailer. The truck has air bags, but they only have about 30 lbs. in them when the video was taken, so you can get an idea of how it sits. Sorry I couldn't give you exact info. Have a Blessed Day
Colin, I'm pretty sure the set up I have would be to much for a half ton truck. When researching size n weight for my setup I saw nice campers much smaller. Travel Lite TLRV makes a nice one smaller and much lighter. Being that these rigs aren't factory built requires a good bit of research. I pulled a fifth wheel camper that weighed about 13,000 lbs that gave me a very good reference point for building a goose camper. Long story short, no I wouldn't try the same set up as mine. But I would research other options.
Careful putting to much weight on the receiver hitch. You don’t want the trailer pushing the tow vehicle. All of these I’ve seen don’t allow moving the weight around to correct a problem.
Well you think a motorhome would be best, but most goose campers are designed for hauling things and camping. If you watch the video to the end you will see why a motorhome wouldn't work. Cost is also a big factor. 😊 Thanks for watching the video.
That is badass. Very well thought out, no wasted space anywhere. Very nice curb appeal too. Good for you!👍👍👍
Awesome crawler hauler. Maybe see you on the trail someday. Thank you for sharing your video and build very cool.

In campers I think less weight can equate to less quality. If you use your rig a lot the weight may just be a necessary trade off.
That's a pretty nice set up, very clean.
Great setup. I'm jelly.
Next evolution in trailer camping, but instead of a pickup truck camper a full square back camper and by the way, awesome job brother...
Love it! Great job.
Nice work.
Nice build. Good job!
BFS OFF ROAD RECOVERY been doing this for years. It was a great idea then. And they're still doing today. Have fun.
Nice toy hauler!
Good looking set up, I did something similar. Pop top on dual axle custom bumper pull. Low profile which pulled great.
Cool set up!!
I love it. Great setup
Nice setup brother.
nice set up! i done one very similar. i took a old 5th wheel camper trailer and made it work. i will try an do a vid soon on it
Absolutely ingenious!
Nice setup.
Nice clean job!
Great idea; much cheaper than a motor home with Razor trailer!
Great set up I think a bumper pull would work but that 5th wheel pulls way better

Yes it pulls very well, the truck and the trailer are all well within their load capacity.
Great video
Nice Rv Trailer bro
I’ve been thinking of a similar setup. Possibly an aluminum trailer for weight savings
Smart organisation's and look very nice

Great point 👍
Nice rig 👍👍
Thank you. Enjoyed the video. Appreciate your time. Best to you and family. Be safe safe.
Haha, thought about doing something similar just with a trailer made for more off road travel.
Nice..just nice
That might be a nice platform for a Four Wheel truck camper. Or a pop up tent trailer. Less wind resistance when driving.
Yes it looks great
What a good idea!!👍👍😊👍
Nice setup! Curious as to what kind of headache rack you have on your tow rig.

I would suggest straps vs chains other than that nice setup
Yeah, truck camper tie down points are intended to be used with a tie down with some level of elasticity to them otherwise you’ll eventually tear your tie downs out.

Any idea of your loaded trailer weight? How much weight is on the hitch? Thanks. Great looking rig.
Trailer is rated for 7000lbs. Camper is 2200lbs, razor is 1800. Not sure about hitch weight. I need to check that.

I think it is great.
Nice!
Pretty cool setup. But, is it safe?
I think so, trailer is rated for 7000lbs, campers 2200lbs, razors 1800lbs. I've got 2000 miles on it as is, mostly mountains of Virginia area.
…looks real nice!
Buy a heavy toyhauler so I can slide down my walls to tie down. I love this. How much water?
Mint!
what's the pin weight of something like that?

If you want to haul toys this is the ideal set-up. I have a 3000# Jeep and a “toy hauler” has a garage capacity of usually only 2000#.
Would 1000 Trails let you bring that in?
Wall 2 wall carpet 😆😆
Better idea then be a guy who had his 3500 ram back bed split in half ....
Why am I watching commercials on a channel with 167 subscribers?? Doesn't make any sense!
This is really cool!! How much do you have in it?
Around $24,000 not counting trailer. Finding a toy hauler that would accommodate the Turbo S was way out of my price range. 😳
