    From the very first note, it is wonderful

    This is a charming, good-natured quartet by one of the finest (and most prolific) of 20th century French composers.

      Don't worry. They're also inconsistent as hell :)

      You're not wrong! But they are also quite lovely. Milhaud is probably one of (IMO) the most underappreciated composers.

    흔하게 듣던곡이 아니라서 들어보았는데 새로 발견한 행성에서의 탐험과 생활하는 상상의 세계로 이끄는 곡입니다.
    멋집니다!!

    Bartje thank you for presenting music notation. I've never learned and your channel is helpful.

    This is the third for me almost unknown string quartet composer I find on your channel. Milhaud's music is not so directly accessible for me as the music of Glazounov and Hindemith. But I'm going listen very carefully, it sometimes take a while to "get it". Thanks, great job and the notes help.

      Sorry Hindemith wqs on another channel, I meant Villa-Lobos.

      @@martinsweaney38 No , so thank you for the information I certainly going listen (if possible) to the string quartets of Bohuslav Martinu. Regards.

      @@fransmeersman2334 Listen to his symphonies too. And his second piano quintet. Very fine works.

    Wonderful pre-Brazil, pre-Jazz, pre-bitonality work. However, this is missing the third movement (Grave, soutenu) as noted, and there are some miscellaneous cuts that make my 1922 score hard to follow.

    Wow can't miss the Ravel influence, did Milhaud write other string quartets? this is enjoyable, but keep expecting to hear those tunes from Ravel's s.q. to appear any moment..

      @GenesisProgressive72 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agree! It is always said about the jazz and Brazilian influence in his music, but what I hear here is 100% French

      @@GenesisProgressive72 You shouldn't really expect this piece to be an accurate reflection of the composer's general style: Given that he's got over 400 numbered pieces opus 5 is a shockingly early work. Still quite beautiful though.
      If you want to hear a more mature Milhaud you should look to his work post first chambre symphony, specially La Création du Monde.

    I've just finished "typing" Vincent d'Indys' "100 Themes d' Harmonie" No.s 1 - 20 into Muse Score, with a piano reduction if anyone is interested.

    If you look the other albums, they have 4movements. Why is one movement missing here? Was it included in Milhaud deleted edition?

    • @bartjebartmans
      @bartjebartmans  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You would have to ask the string quartet who performed it. I have no idea.

    does people who like it know what is Jethro Tulls Thick as a Brick ? I think the crescendo at 4 min shows me that the players don't get the composition, but also because the music is so unclear and not spontan, a burocratic Ravel

    • @bartjebartmans
      @bartjebartmans  5 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      What does Jethro Tull have to do with Milhaud? What a strange comparison and strange facetious comment.
