His dialogue before and after the fight is essentially him venting at X, ranting about how everybody involved is an idiot, and how X is too stupid to see what's right in front of him. For him, there's no greater pleasure than tearing apart the insufferable person he had to spend so much time with.

He splits apart when you use his weakness on him, is made mostly of gel/liquid/non-solid substance, and he even calls one of his attacks ‘Devil Slash’ in some versions (Evil Slash most often b/c of stupid anti-religious localization policies during the time of release).
That's EXACTLY the point. There's a reason his ACTUAL japanese name is "Jello Man". Also the fact in the Japanese version of the game, his EVIL SLASH is actually called DEVIL SLASH. Also if you consider one of his attacks (Split Attack Cutters) uses the exact same text as the Devil Split Attack... yeah. This abomination was in-fact an evolution of a Devil.

After seeing so many comments relating Double with the Yellow Devil, my very personal theory starts making sense: Dr Wily is still active after X2 (when you destroy his host body AKA Serges) and used the reploid technology to make more DWN robots to do his bidding. Double would be the first of them, clearly made partially after the Yellow Devil. The second one would be Dynamo, as some kind of hybrid between X and Zero designs (AKA his Buster and Saber mastery), with some Bass put into the mix (the colors and parts of his design and his very independent behavior). Both of them don't act out of Maverick / Irregular behavior. Both of them know exactly what they are doing and ENJOY it. Also, at least in Dynamo's case, they are totally immune to the effects of the Sigma / Zero / Wily virus and the Nightmare phenomena (in fact the Nightmare actually improves Dynamo's power). All the pieces make sense.
If you use Double Cyclone on him which is his weakness, he becomes more violent and start spawning these weird blob helicopter looking things that will chase you and shoot you. It's better to use your normal Mega Buster against him.
This track contrasts the overly synth sound of Megaman X. The way the drums are and the guitar hitting all those highs just screams death metal. It's made to be more of an angry and chaotic song. They did their best to make Double seem as menacing as possible. Down to the very last second, Double basically hated everything about X.

To anyone that sees this, I just want to point you in the direction of the Double remix by Zero-Ressurected and DarKSidE555 from 2008. It's absolutely fantastic
I like to believe that, despite physically speaking he was only a threat in one game before dying, Double in its own way kickstarted the Copy X issue. Now, while X becoming crazy and evil was scrapped, there's something to get from the experience: X always wanted to fight for peace, he believes most mavericks were misguided or simply manipulated with very very few outliners like Sigma and Vile, but even the later ones were openly hostile so X merely assumed wrong doers are just that. For someone like X, to want to improve the relationship between reploids and believes that everybody is inherently good, Double comes in and brutally takes advantage of X's gentleness. X was proven wrong, mavericks are not always misguided, a lot of mavericks would be willing to take his forgiveness and gentleness and then kick him at his most vulnerable. Double even has the guts to mock him for his naivety. Regardless of the timeline, either Double was in a way responsible for X finally starting to become an evil dictator, or even in the canon timeline, X still started to get desensitized upon learning that some reploids are not only beyond redemption but they're also needlessly cruel because they are just like that.
Ive listened to this song WAAAAAAAAAY too many times and i gotta say... this slaps 🔥 But damn... its violent, intense, and just chaotic!!! Much like Double Quite a Yellow Devil indeed
TBH there should have been two double fights. One where he turns out to be with repliforce and another where he backstabs them and goes flat out Maverick.

Very cool design, awesome theme, good voice (for X4 standars) and one of the best sprites of the game. too bad hes soooo damn easy to beat. sure he hits like a truck, but still predictable.
