I lived in Memphis while all of the casinos were rocking. Spent a lot of time down there for shows, dinners and gambling. Sad to know it’s a shell of its former glory
The closest I've been to this part of the south was a trip to New Orleans in 1980. Loved staying in the French Quarter, visiting the Garden District and all the history, music (literally every genre on every corner), coffee and beignets. I don't know about now, but back then I felt safe. I was probably too naive to know any better. You take me on virtual trips to many places I wish I could have visited. Thank you Mr. Skinner.
Tunica is very different from New Orleans. No one could pay me enough to go to NO now. Things have changed for the worse in NO since 1980. Just stay away from ANY major city in the south & you should be fine. Further north & central MS has a lot to offer especially if you are into history...plantation homes, etc. I live outside Monroe, La. (northeast La) about 1 1/2 hrs from Vicksburg, Ms & the battlegrounds. It's a nice place to visit too. Nothing interesting worth stopping for in Monroe, La. North & South La are worlds apart. I think Ms is nicer overall than La, but that's just my personal opinion. Ya come back.
lol ~ ya’ll talked ne into going now 😜 that be the Hardrock Seminole here in Miami .. i’ve not been since the newest upbuild ( pre ~ Carona shutdown) Good time to take a quick trip over .. about 20mins away . Wish ya’ll luck on your gaming !
When I played for the Memphis Xplorers (AF2 - Arena Football). During training camp they had us, that wanted to, to stay at the Gold Strike for only 100$ per week. Before I even checked into my room I hit the slots. The first 30-mins I was there I won a total of 6,000$!
Sad most of these casinos are closed, demolished, or damn near bankrupt. Would have loved to visit the Vegas of the south in its prime. "Just look at those poo's"
Awww, this brought back memories of the good old days. Harrah’s was torn down, the hotels are sitting there rotting, same with the beautiful golf courses. Such a shame. The entire area has gone down since Harrah’s closed. If you win at any casino in Tunica, 1) it’s a miracle; 2) Take your money and RUN!!!!! Can’t win anything there anymore and I used to be a player.
This was the place to go in the 1990s. It is a ghost town now. Grand Casino was the biggest and had the best buffet you could ever want and they are gone. So sad. Still Horseshoe is a very good casino. In fact the best one left. At least they did not change their name.
That was a great video, Jerry thank you so much for this. My parter and I will be spending our anniversary in Tunica next week, as it’s fairly nearby to where we live in Alabama, and he’s never been before. Great video to show him. Also, thank you for the tips about the buffet deals! We will be checking out on Monday and you bet that we’re going to hit up that $7 buffet before leaving town! 😃
Haha Jerry, you’re a community treasure! Mrs. Jerry rolled her eyes when you said that about you staying in your room and crying, didn’t she? Lol one of these days she’s gonna hit pay dirt and you’ll be seeing her back keep on trucking😂
Great video! My family and I love Tunica. I've been staying at the Hollywood for years and have only stayed in the "first tower" overlooking the casino once. I don't know if it's because I don't have enough comp points or if they are just full when I request it. Hmmmm. Someday I'll get there again though lol!
My son and I went to SAMs town to see Jerry Lee Lewis, who is my sons grandfathers first cousin. We got on stage with JLL and dined later, free, after the show. JLL was not in good health, but when he got on stage , he was almost young again. He, and the other cousins, Mickey Gilley and Jimmy Swaggert, are natural musicians. Later we to JLL house where he had all his old cars. Such fun.....
Lawanda, Tunica has went down a lot since the Virus. I am in Fort Smith today and will try Cherokee just across into Oklahoma tomorrow. I am beginning to believe you. Jerry
for some reason i thought that i tunica the casinos were near eachother like atlantic city new jersy. i heard that hollywood casinos have low payouts no matter the location i don't know if that is true. people try to say they are crooked. i heard that some casinos in tunica ms closed recently is hat true. atlantic city is getting much smaller. trump plaza just closed showboat and revel. trump taj mahal is rumored to close in november all that will be left i think is ballys harrahs borgata resorts harrahs and borgata are by the marina part whats nice about going to resorts is swimming on the beach and walking the boardwalk in the summer its what the old daytona beach boardwalk looked like before they got rid of the arcades and put mostly condos in. they have rides on the steel pier games of chance some two arcades further away down the boardwalk t shirt shops food places etc.
I have friends that wont stay anywhere but Hollywood. However, that is up to each individuals taste. Hollywood, Resort and Sams Town are within walking distance. Horseshoe, Roadhouse and Goldstrike are within walking distance. Ballys and Fitzgeralds and by them selves. Harrahs went out of business. Thanks Jerry
Hey Jerry, what a great piece of filming. In your opinion which is the best value hotel to stay? We will be visiting in March 2015 from the uk,any advice would be greatly valued. Thanks again,Peter
Peter Piper Well, the Gold Strike is the fanciest, But check the price first. The Hollywood has lots of movie memorable to see. It is all free and they are the only one that lets you get your own cokes and coffee free. If it is your first time be sure and go to them all and get a players card and ask what they give. I stay some at the Fitzgerald they have specials for over age 55. The rooms everywhere are cheaper Sunday through Thursdays. Good Luck. Jerry
Peter Piper The good thing about the Roadhouse is you can walk a few feet and be at the Horseshoe and Goldstrike. Just as long as you win. Good Luck. Jerry
Loved the video! Planning on trip at the end of May. It has probably been 10 years or longer since I have been there. What would you say are the top 5...in order...considering quality and price?
+Pam Hadley Thank you for asking Pam. Gold Strike for quality. Fitzgerald for the price. Our favorites, Resort and Hollywood. Thank you, hope you win. We take what we plan on loosing. That way it is not a sad ride back home. Jerry
Hi Jerry I really love your filming. We been there often and stay at the cheapest place, which changes each year. All the rooms have been very nice. We have been always happy with them. We stay during the week not weekends, great for traveling thru and staying for a few days. We never won much but we haven't lost much either. If you don't gamble just stay there, the price can be right, walk around the the different casinos or go site seeing around the area it is very nice.
We dont spend much money either. Always stay through the week. Try to go over to Fitzgeralds on Wednesdays for senior day. Can eat all day for $5.00. If you earn 10 points you can spin the wheel. You will win something. Food, room or free play. Thanks, Jerry
Jerry Skinner • Does the Fitzgerald still do this? I’ve never been in a casino in my life and I’m 63. Grew up where gambling sorta looked down on. But I love to eat and see new sights so I could do a buffet with no problems!
I was in 2 bad beat poker jackpots at Bally's Tunica in the same afternoon. I got a table share and the guy that came with me won the table pot and got 20% of the BB pot both times. I'm sure they checked closely for cheating on the 2nd win. Driving to the casinos seems strange to see tall building popping up from cotton fields. Memphis supports Tunica just as Las Vegas is the closest point inside Nevada from L A.
Jerry, you mentioned the Delorean from Back to the Future. Please do this: go to O'Reilly's.com and use their search engine for 1.21 just do it. It'll make you smile.
I like ur video.it was very informative .Ive never been to tunica, this will be our first year.2014 will be a great year! oh yeah, we're staying @ Road house hotel.
blake86303 • Lordy mercy, MS had that honor long before the casinos came callin’. They did give locals a place to work and most gamblers are from - you guessed it - out of state.
Jim Buford make something out of nothing- I get my husbands coffee with pleasure - know why? He has always took good care of me- I worked- but he made the living
Jan Delisle • Amen! My husband takes good care of me and I do him too. Not everyone can say they’ve had a good 40-year marriage. Hey, reckon it’s because we still like to do for each other? Hmmm🤔🙄👍❤️
Jerry... This is the first vlog of yours that I watched. I have been watching your vlogs ever since. You are the best
I lived in Memphis while all of the casinos were rocking. Spent a lot of time down there for shows, dinners and gambling. Sad to know it’s a shell of its former glory
There’s only 6 now..a huge water park will be up an running by summer of 2022👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Thanks D Rich. Jerry

Casinos are entertainment. Decide ahead of time how much you want to spend and spend it.
Harrah's gone and the buildings tore down. Roadhouse closed and resorts closed now too
I'm missing the casinos with the shutdown going on.
Karrie, you sound like my wife. Jerry
We are planning a trip next week to tunica, before they get shut down again.

Thank you! We're coming for our first visit tomorrow for 3 days staying at Hollywood.
😂❤😂😂😂😂😂❤
i laughed really hard at the end when the happy music comes on after your staying in the room and crying comment
love it there
My closed captioning wrote 'crane', instead of crying.
Memphis got all the problems from those casinos and none of the profit.
Cool video, Jerry! I I've the buffets and shows but don't really gamble.... Fun and cheap for me!
Bryan i know what you are saying my friend. Jerry
Oh there are shows??
Thank you Jerry We are looking forward to staying in Tunica in June @ The Hollywood while on our US road trip
Good Luck.
I've been to the Horseshoe back in 1996. I think i won about 96.00 there.
Yes, as long as you are playing, they are paying. Good Luck. Jerry
She played one dollar at a time on a dollar machine. Ten punched at a dollar a punch.
GOTTA LOVE YOUR ACCENT JERRY YOU CALL HIM CASINAS BE GOOD SOUNDS LIKE FUN YOUR FRIEND LEE
I wish this guy was my neighbor. He's awesome
Enjoyed your video. Thanks for sharing!

The only one I have been in is Biloxi MS
That campground looks like something a tornado would like to eat.
isn't harrahs closed?
yes
Yep roadhouse now so 8 left
I've been there twice, and always won playing video keno @ Sam's town.
Casina? 😆

We have been to Tunica. I wasn’t that impressed. The ones in Oklahoma are so much better. River spirit in Tulsa and Hard Rock id awesome.

Correction The Tallest Building in Mississippi is Beau Rivage Casino Hotel in Biloxi,MS and has been since it was completed in 1999
What age is considered senior ?
Good Video but don't like casions
I'll never trust a casino.
😂
