I remember watching my dad play Hockey for his old company's beer league when I was a little kid. Not too much longer my dad taught me how to play Hockey (thankfully I already knew how to skate). We also used to play Hockey video games such as Konami's "Blades of Steel" (NES) and EA Sports "NHLPA '93" (Sega Genesis). I also would watch Hockey Night in Canada on CBC, watch re-runs of Peter Puck as well as cheer on my local team the Edmonton Oilers with my dad, my uncle and sometimes my buddies (who I also played street Hockey with). Then one day I got to see my first NHL game live with the Edmonton Oilers taking on the Florida Panthers (that was a awesome experience back then). Let's Go Oilers "Boom!" "Boom!" "Boom -ba- Boom!" Let's go Oilers!"
The Montreal-Detroit game is being played at the Montreal Forum. But the Habs are wearing white jerseys. I thought the norm was that the home team would wear their red (dark) jerseys. BTW- Red Wings' Alex Delvecchio (#10) seems to have taken a nasty crash into the boards (8:31). It didn't seem to have hurt his NHL career though.
From about 1952 till 1956 the Home team wore white, they changed it back in 1970. Then Bettman changed it yadda, yadda. That #10 is Metro Prystai a mighty fine player in the 40s and 50s, something of a swiss army knife player that could play any forward position, could score, make plays, etc. At this time Delvecchio was wearing #15.
Still playing on Long Island, 55 years !!! Love it !!!
This may be the best quality old footage that exists.
Incredible footage, encompassing minor, junior and NHL hockey!

Really good video quality for the 1950s!!
Dawn till dusk and for us addicts we played in the summer too.
A big part of my youth. Turned my back on it all when they ended the six-team leauge.
Fantastic historic film! It should be colorized and digitally enhanced. This is priceless footage for all serious hockey fans.
Agreed. There is so much footage that needs to be improved.
The reff skating in the middle of the ice is pretty funny.
Awesome watch. Thanks.
06:38 min. mark. Great seeing Howe, Lindsay, et al. again.
In 1813, the world's first ice hockey game was played at the Fenland of England.
In Canada, ice hockey was very popular and so was association football (soccer).
That's one heck of a headshot at 7:13. If that happened these days they might not play again.
The slash at 7:34 is also pretty wild, haha

The home team always wore white up until Bettman changed that a few yrs ago .
Dont like Bettman.

Is that Punch Imlach at the 3:17 mark?
You got it. He was the Coach of the Quebec Aces.
Bermudian must play hockey on quad roller skates.
What's the name of the team in the thumbnail
Gee whizz mom this film is really swell.
