My birthday is on The Epiphany. And I remember when it was changed to the first I believe Sunday of January or the 2nd. Whichever was closest and my dad had me write the Bishop and tell him how I felt about that. I was really young. . It was a little scary but now I understand his intention. So much has changed in the church . It's almost unrecognizable in some churches. We need to remember what Christmas is why it's even called Christmas. It's not called Santa. It's called Christmas after Christ so why do people say Merry Christmas if they don't believe I don't understand the world these days. I know how we got here but I don't understand how we became so blind. No I even take that back. I do know. But thank you for the beautiful reminder that we should all share. When I moved to the South everyone has there decorations up right after Thanksgiving and all the parties and house visits are before Christmas. Right after Christmas everything is ts taken down. I grew up before artificial trees. Stores were closed on Sunday. We cut down our tree and decorated it on Christmas Eve. It remained up for 2 weeks. It was a slower time more focused on what is important. I miss those days. To quote Shawshank Redemption, “The world got itself in a big hurry!”
I’m only now on line and listening to your message Cardinal Burke. In our family it has been a tradition to put up our Christmas decorations on the Feast of St. Nicholas and take them down on the Feast of the Epiphany, incidentally our younger son’s birthday 😀.

I grew up before artificial trees. Stores were closed on Sunday. We cut down our tree and decorated it on Christmas Eve. It remained up for 2 weeks. It was a slower time more focused on what is important. I miss those days. To quote Shawshank Redemption, “The world got itself in a big hurry!”

I’m only now on line and listening to your message Cardinal Burke. In our family it has been a tradition to put up our Christmas decorations on the Feast of St. Nicholas and take them down on the Feast of the Epiphany, incidentally our younger son’s birthday 😀.
