Those were the days. Little did they know those wooden decoys would be worth many hundreds of dollars 60 years later. I hunted over live decoys in the Netherlands in 1984/1985 as they are showing here. It was deadly effective. Our Dutch guide loved his ducks as much as he did his dog (which I had shipped over to him via Flying Tiger air freight). It’s sad that you never really and truly appreciate how special the times of life are until they are long gone.
South of Hennepin IL along the Illinois River, quite interesting pretty much all of the decoys were carved from wood, no paper mâché decoys. They used a motorized boat to drop the skiffs off near each one of the duck blinds. Dr. Ream our neighbor in Peru, IL from the 40's thru 60's belonged to the club. A well regarded gun club.
