They recorded this album via analog instead of digital recording to give it a raw sound. They took everything their teachers and professionals they knew had taught them about recording and threw it out the window. Good choice if you ask me. I love this band.
"Just before the shot rang out, the blast that would end this battle, the commander stepped out of the shadows and into the light. This was a face our Hero had seen before, in visions and dreams. This was not the face of evil. This was the face of a Hero. The face of a Son. The face of his Brother." Chills down my spine.
No words, no movement, no human form of communication can properly communicate the level of sheer hatred and rage in the chorus of this song. I'm trying to choreograph this for a musical that these songs need, and NOTHING seems to work for this song. Nothing. It's that awesome.
Pure anger, hatred, vileness, and violence just spews out of this song. And it's fucking amazing. It has the same energy as death metal without being death metal.
This is one of my favorites on the album. Unlike the others, this one invokes a scene of badass determination. It saddens me that the only fighting done here was by Mega-Man though.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS "Send me the best you've got. Send me your strongest machines. The fight my brother fought, here, now, will end with me. Is this the best you've got? Is this your strongest machine? Now with one powershot, you'll see what vengeance means."
***** It's not that. Fighting wasn't an option for him. It's building a person to fight, and kill, and die. That's morally wrong. It's just as bad as using a child soldier. Light made a person, not a weapon, and he made that person to fight and die. Dr. Light was not a hero. Just a man, who made mistakes that broke him. A victim of Wily, and of his own need for vengeance. A tragic man.
Joe was the last hero as far as this story is concerned. Far as I understand, this isn't meant to be a story with a happy ending. We'll see when Act III comes out.
I think there's going to be a redemption. Mega Man was disenchanted, but I think that was but another step in his journey toward becoming a hero, and creating heroes. "If these people tell their children..." Where I think this is going, is that heroism, as Joe demonstrated, has to be a choice.
This is the first song I heard from The Protomen. I didn't know about the overarching story behind it but I visualized X tearing down all the robots. I thought the "brother" he was talking about was Zero. Near the end of the song, he faces Sigma who sic his robot hound on him. X with a single backhand smack shatters the robopup. Then the most epic battle between X and Sigma commences. I wish I could animate a quality AMV showing this.
I wouldn't really call it punk at all since the core messages of the album seem to be "The plight of the weak is selfish and deceitful," and "Your oppressors are actually well intentioned HEROIC UBERMENSCHES keeping you masses in line." Fascism isn't PUNK. The punk spirit is the opposite of the filth that The Protomen preach.
Your conception of The Protomen's music is so wrong I saw myself forced to step out of my working place, log in on TH-cam and clue you in, cuz' you don't have an idea of what you're saying. If you pay attention (which I doubt you do), you'll see that the Fascist Leader, Doctor Wily, is NOT the hero, he's the VILLAIN. Mega Man is fighting said fascism, these "The plight of the weak is selfish and deceitful" and "Your oppressors are actually well intentioned HEROIC UBERMENSCHES keeping you masses in line" you mention are EXACTLY what the villain preaches, the hero is fighting said opression and trying to inspire others to do the same; In "The Sons of Fate", Protoman's last words express his desire for mankind to see that "A Hero is just a Man who knows he's Free", therefore this music is, for all intents and purposes, Punk and you are mistaken.
How the hell is the story that's main message is "Silence against oppression leads to destruction. Stand up to your oppressors." PRO FASCISM? Either you're a troll or you're completely misunderstanding the message of this story.
All of these kind of video games & anime are essentially Nietzschean, Futurist theater. Even Punk itself is elementally fascist; in all video games, even if you're "saving the world" it is through an ascent to what amounts to becoming a superman. There were attempts to mute this essence by making the heroes fight "for" equality, but they stand as monuments not to equality, but to inequality for the story always will imply that inequality for some great ones is always necessary for equality among the mass to exist. The Protomen however are not political to my knowledge, so to ascribe to them directly the implications which are necessarily teased out of the genre of art from which they draw inspiration is wrong. It is not wrong to notice the enormous authoritarian streak - even if at times it gives nods to some progressive notions, but it is wrong to accuse them of "preaching" something which, if you notice, is given a rather negative portrayal (a super-man like vengeance in this case.)
Now, who else wouldn't be surprised if this (the robots being led by an equivalent of Wily) actually happened, because whatever we say we aren't in control, and we are incapable of learning from many of our mistakes.
+jonathan faber If we can understand the message The Protomen are sending here, then we comprehend, and if we can comprehend, then we are capable of making a choice. And if we can choose, we can fight.
I just came up with a crazy idea/theory while listening to this album for the 100th time or so... Couldn't you basically listen to this album (minus the first two titles), but in the context of Protoman himself? Instead of Megaman discovering protoman living and under WIley's control- What if Protoman discovered *Joe* still alive under Wiley's control? What made Protoman finally abandon Light and leave (in the same way Protoman's death eventually makes Megaman leave) could have very well been the discovery of his "predecessor". I think this could be further reinforced that Light would have hidden Joe's legacy from Protoman- Which also explains why he chooses to try and tell Megaman; in the hopes that things would turn out differently this time.
It's a moving part of the song. I wasn't aware it was a problem. I certainly don't mind. In fact, I thumbs up'ed the post. Maybe you should go listen to something by Beyonce. I'm pretty sure the top statuses there are more along your lines. 'omggggg ur soooooooooooo hot'.
This would be a great song if the chorus weren't so shitty sounding. That guy needs to understand his range a little better. As is, it's my least favorite song on the album.
"Hurry back, tell your leader you need more men!" That always gives me chills.
Hailey Sionnach Really? That's the part that pumps me up
Well yes that too- It's one of the best taunts I've ever heard to this day.
5 years later
Really like this song and I'm wondering if there are any other bands/songs that have a similar style?
I just used that line as a taunt in a superheroes tabletop game and came here to listen to the song again.
Yeah this song is the epitome of the old British taunt "Come and have a go if you think you're hard enough" and I am all for it.
"Machine seller, I require your strongest machines."
You can not handle my machines, warrior
machine seller, i am going into battle and i need your strongest machines
@@doloresmeatrestauranteater1451 My Machines are too strong for you warrior, go find someone who sells weaker machines
My machines are too strong for you, warrior.
The thing that always got me about this song is, its basically Megaman screaming at an army to bring it.
Not just screaming at an army to bring it.
Screaming at an army to bring it while he plows through them like wet tissue paper!
I thought it was about Megaman putting a rival all you can eat buffet out of business

i'd say it's more like righteous fury, he's angry but determined and focused
"IS THIS THE BEST YOU'VE GOT? IS THIS YOUR STRONGEST MACHINE?"
I can see Mega Man tearing through an army of robots as the crowd of people he's gathered up follow, slowly approaching Wily's fortress.
TELL YOUR LEADER YOU'LL NEED MORE MEN!!!
Now, that is a badass boast.
"I come for vengeance for the first Son of Light and I'm ready, and I'm willing, and I'm prepared to fight."
Nice Homeage, heh
I always hear it as "and programmed to fight". Gives it a more determined touch.
This song is kind of underrated compared to some of the others. Great song and awesome singing by Raul.

Depressing thing is, Protoman's fight did end there with Mega Man, but in a much different way.
+Rokklaggio Not much of a hero, that man who sent his son to die.
+SarSaraneth Protoman was built for this, and he fell to Wily's machines. I doubt any human could hope to do anything more than a symbolic suicide.

I just imagine this playing throughout the Boss Rush stage.
I come for vengeance
for the first Son of Light, and I'm ready, and I'm willing, and I'm prepared to...

2020 and still such an amazing banger
"Your eyes shine, just like mine" always got me.
lord almighty this shit slaps
hell fucking yes it does
11 years later it still balling
I mean, he sings the lyrics in caps lock, it wouldn't be right to do it in lowercase.
freaking PURE RAW EMOTION with that line, its amazing
Opinions are not permitted in Wily's society.
The most punk rock megaman song ever.

Letter Robo
I feel like you're creating an enemy that isn't there, my dude.

Protomen --- Thank you.
“You’ll se-“ “What vengeance means.”
I love the Desperation and Hatred in the singers voice here it just fits
Finish what you started.
Breaking News: Man literally too angry to die.
This is the Protomen song that sounds the most like an (early) MCR song.
I'd fucking LOVE an instrumental version of this song.
SEND ME THE BEST YOU'VE GOT!
SEND ME YOUR STRONGEST MACHINE!
THE FIGHT MY BROTHER FOUGHT!, HERE,NOW.
WILL END WITH ME!!
this is my favorite one

All of my this...All of it.....this.....this is amazing
Can you imagine the epic MegaMan fighting music video that can be made for this?
@orochifire Its epic sounding and nothing needs changed...
listening for the first time, and this... is a lot harder to understand than the megas lyrics
Keaton
Liner notes are your friend.
@orochifire
Which really begs the question of why you said yours in the first place.
playing this in terraria during a bloodmoon and a modded battle potion multiplier is a new feeling
I wish I could buy this album on CD for less than $40 atleast....
It might just be my extreme tiredness but this song gives me a bit of a headache. But apart from that its awesome!
man i just feel so sad for Megaman
i cant wait for act lll
I think it won't take too long
THIS. IS. SO. FUCKING. EPIC:
@Roranars Pretty much, yes.
And with one power shot, I'll show you what vengeance means!
FIGHT!

high octane stuff!
It's a moving part of the song.

I always wondered if all the time humans had the power to turn the machine off but they realized this order was what the needed.
@MrFhukHouson
...which game? There's a lot of Mega Man games, and the ones this song is based on were for the NES.
I fucking love this
There's no Mann or Machines...
thanks dude u and the song are fucking amazing
how can i hear this magic?
Oh, so Wily runs the Internet.
This track reminds me so much of At the Drive in.
So absolutely ballsy.
SING IT WALLY
The success of Mighty No. 9 makes this song all the sweeter.

Ik themed albums have died in the mainstream
Fantastic! :-D
