Hi Jonathan! For N gauge locos I find toothpicks to be invaluable when trying to lever a body shell away from its chassis! I find all aspects of the instructions supplied with most models to be lacking in one respect or another! For some reason manufacturers seem to assume we're all experts, or at least that seems to be the case! So this is a good little video that will hopefully help beginners out! All the best, Ian.

Hi Ian, thanks for the tip. I saw your Class 31 review the other day (good video by the way) and I think you helpfully showed the toothpicks in action in that one. There seem to be plenty of options, you just need to know what you're up against first!

@@endoorrailway - Thanks Jonathan! When I modelled in OO thirty odd years ago, I used to use old credit cards to help remove a body shell, but when I tried them on N gauge, they were too thick, hence the toothpicks being pressed into action! You're right though, nothing would help if the body was secured using hidden screws and you didn't know!

are the tail lights separately switchable? top - keep some credit cards or glue spreaders to slide inbetween chassis and body. or grow long nails.

      Hi Tim,
I'm afraid I don't know, and Endoor's all packed away at the moment. From what I remember it behaved directionally, but I didn't try to change any light settings - the description on Hatton's, Dapol and Rails of Sheffield all say "directional lighting", so I suspect not - I think they'd advertise it if it were individually controllable. I'll try to find out more (if I remember!) next time I've got things set up.
Yes credit cards might be a bit less intrusive than the point sleeves, and glue spreaders will have a thinner end so also a better option - thanks!

Hi again Tim - I got the railway back out yesterday and have just looked at the Class 27's instructions. Good news: "We have designed this model to have independent control of front and rear lamps. For best operation, we recommend a 4 function (or greater) decoder is fitted (for example a 6 function Dapol Imperium Next-18) to your model. If you have purchased the Dapol factory fitted decoder it has been fitted with a pre-programmed Imperium decoder (Please refer to separate DCC operation instructions supplied). If fitting a decoder (including a non-factory fitted Imperium) you will need to consult the decoder manual to correctly configure the decoder for operation of the locomotive lighting."

I usually find fingernails work - pull the body apart slightly, and let the chassis drop onto a soft surface like a duvet.

Yes that sometimes works, but not with this one - it put up quite a fight! A soft landing surface is a good idea though - thanks :)

I use 5 thou plastic sheet inserts 4 in all , prising the body off..

      Thanks - that's another useful option 🙂
