  • A super event where the Dalton Grasstrack Club gave the youngsters a chance to showcase their talents at the famous Dalton Barracks venue at the Abingdon site where the famous Berk Bonanza meetings use to be held, and they didn't let anyone down, even though the track was pretty big, the youngsters put on a great show. This was about developing the riders of the future. From the very little one's in the Auto Cadets and Cadets, to the Juniors and Intermediates, there are some very talented riders coming through. In the Auto Cadets, Dakota Wright, Alfie Shipp, and Oscar Berwick all look to have a very bright future, and the large track certainly didn't hold any fears for them. In the Cadet class, Rex Austin is a real flyer in this class, and few got anywhere near him. Chloe Davis continues to improve, and Chloe would have learnt a lot more from this meeting.
Lots of stars of the future in the Junior class, with Oliver Bovingdon, Kane Newby, and the very quick Finley Theobald all having success' through the day, with some cracking racing. The Intermediates were just so good to watch, with some very tight battles in every race. Ollie Binns had his first go in the Intermediate class, and was right in amongst the front runners. Jesse James, Dylan Amies, Hayden Watts, Harrison Rogers, Charlie Prior, and Max Bloomfield were swapping places all day. Terrific to see these young riders putting on such great racing, but which one would get the top place on the podium?
Some of the closest races of the season have come in the 250cc Solo class, and despite the large track, this was still the case today. 15 year old Charlie Wood, with his flat out wide riding style has been a dominant force this season, but would his wide riding style be suited to this track? Ben Phillips is always very fast, but could he get the better of Woods? Luke Tuck (Riding one of Karl Bedingfield's machine's) saw him in great form, as he cut through the pack. Bedingfield himself looked very quick, but could he get the better of Tuck on one of his own bikes? Former Youth Intermediate British Champion Austin Riches is making his own mark in the adult racing, so he would have a say in a super days racing form the 250cc Solo's.
The 500cc Solo class saw Charley Powell up against some really good competition in the likes of James Laker, Jack Roberts, Luke Harris, Jordan Derrick, and both Liam & Ryan Ashcroft, but could any of them hold a candle to the talented Powell? Some great racing for the minor places, but Powell looked a class apart.
There have been some breathtaking RH Sidecar races throughout the 2023 season, with both Mark Cossar/Carl Blyth, and Terry Saunters/Liam Brown being involved in most of them, and today would be another big showdown between the 2 of them. Both went into the final unbeaten in the heats, but nobody could have predicted how the final would turn out. All i will say, is hold onto your seats, and hold your breath. Absolutely thrilling finish to the day. We saw some terrific racing through the heats, with Michael Austin/Vinny Branch, Paul Whitelam/Richard Webb, Steve Smith/Gareth Little, Matt Fumarola/Andi Wilson, Dale Fish/Jordan Fish, and Will Offen/Ricky Pay really mixing it up with the top runners now they have finally sorted out the set up of their bike. Fabulous action all through the heats from these 1000cc monsters of Grasstrack racing, and you can see why they are so popular with the spectators, but the final was just on another level.
Also in attendance were the Old & New Sidecars, but with no Liam Brown racing because of a dropped valve, it was left to Mark Courtney/Leon Torres to take an easy win. Despite there being some good racing for the minor places. A fantastic event, showing just how good Grasstrack can be if run with the right amount of races and classes. A very slick run event, and very entertaining.

Cheers Bob. The sidecar final was worth the gate money alone. See you at tallington

Always seems to be the way now if you have both Terry Saunters and Mark Cossar at a meeting. I love filming these 2. Just so exciting to watch.
