For me I don't think there is a finer basso voice than Ghiaurov's. It's latent power and its beauty, its sensitivity and its musicality combine to give a truly satisfying experience. I did not know this opera or this piece, but am thrilled to have heard it. He is obviously completely at home in the Russian language and repetoire.
