The problem boils down to jealousy, lacking professionalism, and racism. I believe she would be welcomed with open arms if she was black. What they fail to realize is CC’s presence puts butts in seats, increases $$$ to the league and to players.
If the basis for selection to the Olympic team is supposed to be entirely demonstrated performance in the WNBA, then Clark should not have been chosen. But the basis for selection is *supposed* to involve other criteria as well, including growing the audience and improving visibility. On that basis, Clark should certainly have been chosen.
The WNBA and especially players had best tread carefully. I have never been a big fan of basketball. Even in college, most of my dormmates and roommates were basketball players. I went to their games as support, still with a yawn. I have not watched basketball since. That is, until this spring. I watched Womens Basketball. And, this is hard for a Minnesotan to say, I cheered for (gasp) Iowa. All because of one person; Caitlin Clark. I am not the only person doing this.
Put pressure on the Olympic sponsors, boycott any of the Paris, France Olympic coverage. That will be the last time the organizers pull this. Don’t blame them for acting childish if the adults in the room don’t school them on how life work if you want to participate!
This will week will probably fuel her. With the actions we have seen since the start of the WMBA season it is clear WHY salaries and crowd size have not gotten anywhere close to the mens NBA. They show themselves as unprofessionals. And they take the one person who has brought MAJOR attention and possibly better salaries/endorsments down the road as a whole for all players and shown themselves as jelous bullies instead of ..wow..this is great 20,000 people watching us! If the WMBA was any good before Catlin Clark then why was nobody watching? This is a golden opportunity to grow the visibility of the WMBA and all that is going on it giving people reason to HOPE Catlin switches to playing in Canada. We will still travel to see her! I'm not worried at all about Catlin Clark..she is a professional and will find a way. The WMBA players...I mean..who cares about them if they don't understand basic business. Let them cry and complain about the mens' salaries while younger talent finds better places to play...for us! Without fans and stadiums full of people the WMBA is ...well 70,000 dollar a year at best per player, maybe with a local car dealership as a sponsor. NIKE and other sponsors will find where to put their money. You don't think they are watching this childish behavior on TV? Some of these players seem to think nobody is watching (I guess they are more use to the WMBA before Catlin). I mean really what sponsor is going to give money to some of these players who act this way? The problem boils down to jealousy, lacking professionalism, and racism. I believe she would be welcomed with open arms if she was black. What they fail to realize is CC’s presence puts butts in seats, increases $$$ to the league and to players.
If the basis for selection to the Olympic team is supposed to be entirely demonstrated performance in the WNBA, then Clark should not have been chosen. But the basis for selection is *supposed* to involve other criteria as well, including growing the audience and improving visibility. On that basis, Clark should certainly have been chosen.
The WNBA and especially players had best tread carefully.
I have never been a big fan of basketball. Even in college, most of my dormmates and roommates were basketball players. I went to their games as support, still with a yawn.
I have not watched basketball since. That is, until this spring. I watched Womens Basketball. And, this is hard for a Minnesotan to say, I cheered for (gasp) Iowa. All because of one person; Caitlin Clark. I am not the only person doing this.
Put pressure on the Olympic sponsors, boycott any of the Paris, France Olympic coverage. That will be the last time the organizers pull this. Don’t blame them for acting childish if the adults in the room don’t school them on how life work if you want to participate!
Simple solution: Boycott the WNBA! CC can play International Ball and Big 3. This would combat a lot of players that are negative with hate.
This will week will probably fuel her. I do think it’s interesting to compare it to the NBA, where there is constant taunts, beef, fights, and roster drama ( e.g. Isaiah Thomas not making the Dream Team), happens consistently. It definitely adds to the drama and interest in the league, I hope it fuels both the league and Clark to keep improving their skills and entertainment value.
