    The post box was so adorable! Thanks for sharing that! I never thought about velvet burn, but I’m sure that is what happened to the side of my finger. (I made 2 velvet tops.) I usually try to wear nitrile gloves
    When I work with fabric because my hands are so dry, but I didn’t when I cut them out. Those cookies looked very good. I love your description! It’s always a nice reminder that we can do little bits when we have a few minutes and make progress. Hope you are enjoying your time off!

      Wearing gloves is next level. Might need to think about that the next time I'm cutting velvet!

    😂 you break for Christmas decorated post boxes, I love it! I’ve really enjoyed Sew Little Time this year. Her three boys have been fun to watch as much as Karen 😊

      Haha, I would always safely pull over, but no I won't miss them! 😆 Karen's boys are really sweet. Glad you've been enjoying her videos.

      @ I wish so too Teresa. There are not enough hours in the day. It’s a shame, that we can’t get paid enough to just stay home to make craft videos.

    Your videos are rocking it! I made a simple Love Notions Laundry Day Tee dress in stretch velvet from Minerva a day ago and I biffed the neckline. The fabric edges curled as I was surging the neckline on, I wasn’t aware and I didn’t catch all the layers. There were gaps in the seam line. I tried a second pass and it looked worse. The garment is in timeout now. I’m going to try to unpick the neckline if I can, and maybe just turn it under and topstitch it down along with some clear stabilizing elastic, the kind used to stabilize shoulder seams. Hopefully you fair better. The side seams are fine, just the neckline. This is my first stretch velvet sew. Next time, I’ll try double sided tape or something. This velvet was tricky to iron also, I used a pressing cloth which helped not crush the nap, but the fabric doesn’t want to keep a crease at all. Take care!

      Good luck when you feel up to trying again. We've all had those projects. You know you're in good company!

    Velvet burn! I’ve sewn for 63 years and never heard of it, but, I’ve got it now and didn’t know what was going on! I’m making a minky fur robe for myself this week, and my hands are driving me crazy! You are now my favorite Vlogmas “personality” for teaching me something new!!! I’ve also been watching Sam, Ruan, Sarah, Devon and Bec! I watch So Carol Sews but she’s not doing a Christmas vlog.

      Ooh yes, I've had it from minky, too!! The things we go through for our craft. 😆😉 You've got a good run of vlogmas videos with that bunch. Kudos to you for keeping up!

    Thank you for showing the post box topper. I love them. I don't know why but they just facinate me. I appreciate you taking the time to show them to us. I love your vlogmas' because you're from the US and you explain a lot of the things that are different from the US. Love the cooking segments that you add in. Love seeing all your makes. Thank you for all your time and effort you put into this channel.

      That's so nice to hear. Thank you! I wish there were more postbox toppers around locally this year. I'll keep on looking for them!

    Love the Christmas pen! 🎄 I love driving through a little village near me that still has all the post boxes with crochet Christmas toppers. They have different toppers all year round. I think the village should be renamed yarn bobbins 🩷❤️

      That's such a delight! My local area was the same between 2021 and 2022. I'm sad that my local crocheters have lost steam. Hoping they come back with enthusiasm, soon.

    What a bumper Vlogmas!
    Yes, very invested in the velvet dress project, but dismayed to hear about velvet burn. I've never encountered this, but I've only sewn with poly stretch velvet, so maybe it's fibre-specific? Or I'm less thorough with cleaning (seems likely 😄) - I tend to just use my mini vacuum cleaner, so it's at a distance from my fingers. One to avoid, though; thanks for the warning.
    I went to Gingerbread City today! I thought it was great, but I understand what you were saying; I can really see how it would benefit from better lighting and a more gallery-like space. Also, the Christmas carols were a little assertive; my partner couldn't cope after a while and had to leave 😂.
    I would like the crap out of vlogmas videos featuring your Gingerbread architecture attempts, so I hope that happens one year.

      Never had velvet burn from stretch velvet, but I have had it from poly velvet. So odd!
      So glad you went to Gingerbread City and enjoyed it!! We didn't have carols. Maybe that was down to the day that you went. I am totally down for some crazy gingerbread construction one year. It's happening.

    You've been missed! Morning coffee just wasn't the same 😊. The postbox topper find felt somewhat nostalgic to me. I wonder what happened to them all? Are they languishing in somebody's attic? They were a spot of joy for sure. Your tinned biscuits reminded me of 'canned cake' when we were camping as children. It was a real treat to have a date nut loaf when we were many days into a long canoeing trip. Your aubergine dress is a real winner. You'll get lots of wear out of it. I am so excited to see the velvet version. I have never experienced 'the burn' but I can't recall the last time I worked with velvet. The type I had was stiffer fabric with a short pile more like upholstery fabric. Maybe that makes a difference.

      @LostMyThread  6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I know that a lot of the postbox toppers end up looking very sad by the end of the season after battling the wind and rain. I don't know if many would make it another year. There must be some around, though. It is a mystery.
      And I have definitely had that burning with a thicker poly velvet. Not stretch velvet, though. It's a funny one!

    Post Box Topper! What a fantastic idea! I’ve seen them on individual boxes in the states, but never on public ones. Regulations here you suppose?

    • @LostMyThread
      @LostMyThread  6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think it's mostly down to the shape of the mailboxes. The ones over here have a great shape with the lip to be able to put the topper on like a hat and securely tie it. I'm sure there's a creative way to crochet somewhere else, though! Like on those big red balls at Target. 😂

      You might be onto something there with the Target balls! I read recently of a grandmother who had to stop and take a picture of a young grandson who insisted on sitting on top of the ball and having grandma take his picture every time he was with her! What memories they have!

    I just went down the Google rabbit hole. Post box toppers are creative genius. I am thinking I could make one with a Christmas tree and teddy bear. I live in the states! 🤨 So that isn't happening. But very fun to think about. I am making the Tie Dress by Sewing Therapy. I am only watching 2 Vlogmas series this year. You and Unsewcial. I am very much enjoying both. I feel like a world traveler.

      The postbox toppers are really fantastic, year round. We definitely peaked in 2021 where I live. I'm sure your vision would be absolutely adorable! I need to check out Unsewcial's vlogmas. Thanks for coming along on my vlogmas journey!
