    This brings back memories of my 8th grade wood class semester project 35 yrs ago. I told my teacher I was making a small wooden chair legs out of oak wood. He couldn't figure out why the four tiny holes on the side for each leg.😅 Got to use it on an after school street challenge vs four cholos with their buck knife. Never got messed by them again. Got their homeboys respect. They nicknamed me, "Puto Chinito."😎

    I watched both versions of this project. I appreciate the time they you put into both, the explanation in the full version, and the pace of the abbreviated version.
    I didn't see how you united them with the cord--specifically the type of rope and the knot. Do you show those details anywhere?
    Thanks for the videos.

    • @JoePierceMaker
      @JoePierceMaker  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for watching. I didn't include the rope part because it took a me a couple tries and I wasn't confident in the knot enough to suggest it to other people. I also didn't film that part because I didn't think it would make for interesting footage, just me sitting there cursing at myself, haha!

    • @carminemurray6624
      @carminemurray6624 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used 10 gauge electric cord, I slotted and holed much like the video, and one end has no knots, my ends have 2 holes going down and one wire goes down and around into the other stick down and around and is stuck in the wood by pressure alone after it passed through the holes I would need to make a video to show actual details.
      I have been making Ninchucks for decades.

    I'm going to make some out of jatoba wood. The wood is too hard for a plane. Gotta use a rasp and sanding blocks. It's gonna wear me out.

    • @JoePierceMaker
      @JoePierceMaker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jatoba splinters pretty bad so be careful when cutting the string channels. You can use planes and chisels on it but they’ve got to be super sharp and you have to resharpen often.

      Truth is the use of Ninchucks is far from television and movies and other stuff, I just use simple moves I make up as I go along.
      Funny was my 13 year old cousin, Jose, pronounced, Hose A, and he tried showing me how to use Nunchucks, and he was rather good, so fast, like Bruce Lee and he whined and made stupid sounds like a freaky hungry puppy dog wanting to eat your beef steak.
      Suddenly, I heard a strange sounding hollow KLOOK and he gets this glazed look in his eyes and falls down, He knocked himself the Frack out !
      I just left, as I did not want to be accused of knocking him out, but he never grassed on me as he was too embarrassed, he gave me the Nunchucks shortly after he woke up and before I left his house, while I was saying goodbye to his parents and siblings.

    • @JoePierceMaker
      @JoePierceMaker  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Suraj, you think that's expensive? You should look up the price of a hand plane, drill press, chisel set, card scraper, marking tools, workbench, vice, boiled linseed oil, and paste wax. Oh, and brazilian cherry isn't cheap either. I researched prices of hand made exotic wood nunchucks and found that $75 is about average. You could definitely make your own. In fact, I have a longer version of this video (link in description) where I show you how. It's not hard if you have the tools and experience.

    • @carminemurray6624
      @carminemurray6624 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JoePierceMaker
      I found out that industrial mop handles are best for strength and very cheap even free, and I get linseed oil and varnish free and have oodles of tools, from thrift stores, I do not do all that wood working and use an ordinary hand drill to drill and slot the wood, I use 10 guage stranded copper electric cord as it has the consistency I prefer.
      I would say a pair cost me from $ 75 to $ 80 just in time and effort, but you cannot beat the strength of an industrial mop handle.
      Easier to use.
      I eliminated using chain and nylon after much trying, and ended up with electric cord as it gives me the best results in actual use.

      True, but most hobbies or crafts require you to acquire some sort of tool don't they? For example, I wanted to be a woodworker, so I purchased some woodworking tools. If I wanted to be an auto mechanic, I would have to buy wrenches and such. If I wanted to be a chef, I would need knives, pots, pans etc. Now, with that being said, if I wanted a set of these nunchucks, but I didn't want to buy hundreds of dollars in tools to make them. I would head over to www.joepiercemaker.com and order a set made by the guy with the tools.

    Why make so complicated wen you can just get a piece of round wood and just drill the holes

    • @JoePierceMaker
      @JoePierceMaker  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The adventure is in the journey, not the destination. I challenged myself to make a tapered octagon because I enjoy woodworking and I wanted to make a nice looking, functional piece. How boring would it be if I bought oak dowels from the home store and just tied them together?

    • @XxxXxx-fm3wo
      @XxxXxx-fm3wo 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Becasue round is not a real nunchuk shape, when the edge of these octogonal shaped edge hits they hurt much more. they must be stright, strong, and roped with silk, and tapped. These are proper tradtional tek wood style nuncucks not Hollwood style ones or practice ones which are rounded for safety. 90% of people do not know how to use them anyway, or the history. I suggest before holding a pair you learn matial arts first.

    • @thearabianmage
      @thearabianmage 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      S T sorry but a bit of misinfo here.
      While round is an acceptable shape, octagonal shaped chucks are used since the inside grip of the hand isn’t circular, it’s closer to an octagon so you get a better grip. Neither shape is more or less traditional than the other although round is associated with Chinese style and octagonal with Japanese style.
      Getting whacked with hard wood, round or hexagonal, is gonna hurt. “Round” isn’t safe, I literally don’t know where you got that. If you think a hardwood is safe because it’s round, whack yourself a couple times with a baseball bat.
      Although silk would be nice to tie chucks together, there isn’t actually a set standard. Some use paracord, some rope, some chain, I once saw a guy use shoelaces. You tie them without knots, tape, or glue.
      You don’t need to know martial arts to use nunchucks. It helps but it’s not necessary.

    • @carminemurray6624
      @carminemurray6624 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use industrial mop handle as it is stronger, and I think looks or shape are not so important, I have made them and used them for decades and the round ones work just as well in self defense, as I can tell you from experience.
      Oh yes, Ninchucks work best in a knife attack, and if you can take classes, though I never did, I highly recommend it unless you want to get knocked out as did my 13 year old Cousin Jose, pronounced Hose A. 😲

      @XxxXxx-fm3wo 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JoePierceMaker okay fair not 100%, you hit your targets, but you must learn to stop the nunchucks without looking and learn pressure points, all hits are done on points and not hard but fast, holding them correctly allows for more control.Your wood working is nice and you built nice nunchuks. I believe that is your talent. Watch Grand master Gorege Dillman, on simple beginning technics then watch Jack Mace videos for more advanced. You will learn to contol them at all times and not get hurt. Learn all the pressure strick points and make them hurt ten fold, with less brute force and quickness. I wish I could get a pair it wasn't since i was young and dumb since I had any which were horribe home made ones. The size should go from center of your palm to the tip of the elbow no longer, the rope should allow them to go over the shoulder, or about as wide as your hand with width. No I only saw you use them three seconds and it wasn't 100% horrible. Just remember you control them and not ever have to be off balance or affaid of getting hit when using them as they should not hit you back hard. Normal to be absorbing them in a controlled manner. Your pair is made corectly and that is the best starting point. Hate seeing these steel ones that make no sense at all. If you strike the right spots you will subdue an attacker fast, if they got into the others hands they have no knowledge they will hurt themselves. Bolts and hammer handle ones etc. anyone could use as brutel weapons, they are eligant sophisicated farming tools, in a well trained hand deadly. Beutiful job, nice wood working keep it up.
