      With the Yanks being close, Juan still probably favored the Mets after his family was disrespected by a Yankees employee when they came to see him in April. Things were apparently cleared up but Latino/Hispanic families do not forget that kind of stuff and it was apparently important to the Mets staff because they made a point to address the importance of Juan’s family to him and them.

    As a Padres fan, I was super hyped when we got Juan Soto especially with all the media hype calling him the next Ted Williams and having such a player being part of a lineup that included Tatis Jr., Machado & Bogaerts. I will admit I was extremely disappointed I was expecting him to be an exciting dynamic player like Tatis Jr. a player you just had to drop what you were doing to see him up at the plate. Someone who is a once-in-a-lifetime talent, but I just found him to be a one-dimensional good hitter with a good eye at the plate which earned him a ton of walks. I understand the value of on-base percentage as a highly valued metric but I value RBI's & Slugging Percentage a bit more. No fan buys tickets to see a so-called game changer opt for a walk when they should expand the zone to drive in runs.
    In Sotos's case, I felt that in key situations where you needed him to be more aggressive, he would either take a pitch that he should have crushed or prefer to take a close pitch to get a walk. That would be great if he took advantage of getting on base by stealing a base or two or being a menace on the base paths like Tatis Jr. can be. But he was just an average base runner and a defensive liability.
    Many times stats can be deceiving, there are no stats that emphasize when that key hit or HR came. Or how a certain at bat was key to a victory. At the end of the year all anyone see is the accumulated stats that may be impressive but do not tell the real story. Much of Soto's full season stats with the Padres either came in garbage time or when the team was out of contention. He even enjoyed an ideal batting spot in the batting order between Tatis Jr. and Machado where he would be giving better pitches to see and drive, but unfortunately a majority of the time we would get a walk. Nonetheless, I found him to be nothing even remotely equivalent to a Ted Williams type whatsoever.
    Now as far as the Ted Williams comparison, are you kidding me? How did that comparison come about? Sure both players defensive skills were average at best and sure both have comparable Base running skills. The only thing they have in common is the both were left handed bats with somewhat similar power numbers, oh and they draw a ton of walks. But a career .280 hitter compared to a career .345 hitter who would consistently drive in 130 plus runs per year makes this comparison laughable. Oh and Williams was the last man to bat over .400 and might have done so again if not for the military service interruption during the peak of his playing career.
    Soto is definitely not even in the same ballpark of a Ted Williams nor should his name ever be used in the same sentence of the man. Hell he is not even at a level of Fernando Tatis Jr. or even a Tony Gywnn. I think the Mets are going to regret that contract over the long run. The Padres contract for Tatis is looking like a bargain now a far more dynamic player who is at a similar age to Soto who happens to be a true game changer on both offense and defense. A genuine Five tool player. Hey Mets fans I hope you enjoy your star player drawing walks when he should be driving in runs. I just have to give you my opinion of what I personally witness first hand.

    • @EddieHersh
      @EddieHersh 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      Excellent analysis and I totally agree. Juan soda was definitely a disappointment with the Padres and not the difference Maker that everyone thought he would be. Also, I have never understood the comparison between him and Ted Williams. Ted Williams was a much more impactful hitter than Juan Soto will ever be, and yes, batting average still matters!

      Blaming Soto as the reason the Padres failed when manny, tatis, and Bogartes all struggled is absolutely crazy. Soto has his approach as a hitter and doesn’t deviate from that. The style is not to everyone’s cup of tea but he has the best eye of any play in baseball and has been incredibly consistent for his entire career. His floor is being a 850 OPs hitter and in terms and has had over 500 slug all but one year of his career and lead the league in walks three separate times. The Mets aren’t gonna regret anything because they now have a true franchise guy to pair with Lindor and brings some discipline hitting to a team who was middle of the pack in strikeouts. Soto isn’t a Judge or Ohtani but he doesn’t have to be in order to be an all time great hitter

    • @EddieHersh
      @EddieHersh 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@nicholaskatsikas4904 Soto vastly underperformed with the Padres, especially as compared to how he performed before and after.

    • @yang-it-yin7002
      @yang-it-yin7002 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @michaeldietz4190 Not really! Sure his stats on paper have not matched some of his earlier stats. The biggest problem he has had is the amount of injury time that has kept him off the field. Many due to his bonehead reckless behavior away from the field like crashing motorcycles and opting out of choosing to repair it surgically. All that led to that PED use and suspension.
      The guy was tested before his injury and is currently even more so, and he has passed all of the tests. As far as dynamics go how many players have stolen home standing up? How many guys have thrown out guys multiple times at first base from their right-field position? Or change their position on the field and win a platinum glove in the first year at that new position? How many players average over 100 MPH off the bat when making contact? He has done all of that post the PED suspension. If that is not dynamic I do not know what is. I can't say the same for Juan Soto. Like him or hate him how many of you would not want Tatis Jr. on your team? And how many teams out would prefer a one-dimensional Juan Soto than an athletic Fernando Tatis Jr. on their team? I would venture to say few if not any.

    As a Yankees fan all I can say is "THANK YOU!" to the New York Mets. Now the Yankees can do what they should have done all along and focus on pitching. Let's just hope Cashman does not make any stupid offers to free agent hitters. We need to have Ben Rice and 1st, Caleb Durbin at 2B and Jasson Dominguez in LF. If it were up to me Spencer Jones would be the starting Center Fielder.

    We all knew Soto would in all likelihood go to the highest bidder, but I felt that if being Yankee, even if it was for a year, that it meant something to him and that it would give NYY the edge. By clearly choosing the Mets for 5 million more dollars showed he didn’t give a damn about playing in pinstripes and all it was about was his money and NOTHING ELSE. Yankees can now move past this and allocate their money to other player(s) instead of one guy who isn’t even close to Ohtani’s level of production.

Soto will eventually find out he could have made even more money by way of endorsements had he stayed. Long term contracts usually end up biting team owners in the backside.
    The Yankees would be much better to invest the Soto money in 3 star players who would create a balanced team instead of being top heavy at the beginning of the order. While Soto is a great player keep in mind his defense isn’t so great. His batting average is on par with many players . To the Mets enjoy him and invite Bonilla to the stadium once in awhile.

    I just can’t believe Soto’s deal is good for the sport. This type of contract hurts the small market teams. 3 or 4 teams will dominate MLB. Maybe it’s already happening. The Mets, Dodgers, Yankees and maybe San Diego. Sure, I’m a Yankee Fan. My comment may sound like sour grapes. Personally I believe the Yankees need a Starting Pitcher, 3rd baseman and 1st Baseman. Come to think of it they need a left fielder also. It was preordained Soto would sign with the highest bidder and everybody knew that would be The Mets.

    Soto getting 300 million more than the Dodgers are paying Ohtani is crazy. Ohtani the last 3 years has hit 295 AVG 132 HR, Soto has hit 270 AVG 103 HR. Ohtani is also capable of stealing 50 bases at a 95% success rate while also playing gold glove caliber defense if you need him to. People forget it wasn’t his bat that had people in awe in Japan, it was his gold glove caliber defense in the outfield. He can also compete for a Cy Young. How does Soto get 300 million more than him? He is going to be a DH hitting 270 with 30 HR in 3 years

    • @Ziffeltron
      @Ziffeltron 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Ohtani has only stolen 50+ bases once. Hes hurt from a pitching standpoint ALL the time. His greatest asset is his hitting and hes a monster there. Dodgers overpaid for the greatest glass cannon of all time. Soto at least plays defense, albeit being an average defender, solid arm in the outfield and hits out of his mind.

    • @johndurrer7869
      @johndurrer7869 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @ my point is he’s capable of doing it. If his pitching were to fall off he could go and be a gold glove caliber outfielder that steals 50+ bases at a 95% clip. If he played outfield last year his WAR wouldve been around 14-15. As far as his pitching injuries the Dodgers are likely going to be smart with him and only use him as a pitcher for the second half so he’s ready for the playoffs every year

      Ohtani home residence is in Japan, him taking deferrals means he's not paying taxes. Ohtani didn't take the angels to the world series, also has had two arm surgeries. Soto won a world series with the team who drafted him and a world series run with a team with major holes on its roster, you're right, they're not the same.

    • @johndurrer7869
      @johndurrer7869 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@benjames4502 Like I said if Ohtani stops pitching he will continue to steal 50+ bases at a 95% success rate and he will likely instantly be the best outfielder in the world defensively. He has incredible range and obviously the best arm in the outfield ever. Soto is the third worst outfielder in all of baseball. And will definitely have to switch to DH very soon. Dodgers will continue to use Ohtani as an ace pitcher as long as he continues to do so. If they can get three more years out of him as an ace they will gladly take it
