Thanks for the video. I have a question for which i have never been able to find an answer. As per Hindu scriptures, souls do not die and take birth elsewhere. If that is the case, the souls must currently be in new physical bodies and already been conditioned to the worldly pleasures including eating food regularly. Then what is the reason for doing tharpanam to the souls that are already in their new bodies having food? Also, if one's father/mother/both are alive should we do tharpanam? It is inevitable that their images will keep coming in our minds when we do tharpanam. Also, should we do tharpanam to brothers/sisters who might have passed away?

Tarpanam is only done for those departed souls who have not yet crossed into the Light. We do not do Tarpanam for living relatives, who are alive.

When you do Tarpanam, you may invite 6 generations of your departed ancestors to receive the offering:
Say the following: “I invite 6 generations of my ancestors on my mother’s side and 6 generation of ancestors on my father’s side to take this offering.”

Thank you for your valuable question. Yes, you may do Tarpanam in a garden under a tree, it may be best to dispose of the seeds in a trash bin afterward. (it may attract rodents, however. )

I do Tarpanam daily and used to use a strainer and do Tarpanam over that in a kitchen sink -- most of the seeds were captured and I removed them to the Trash Bin afterward. However, after a few years, I had to snake out my kitchen drain, which some seeds had clogged. So now I do Tarpanam over a large bowl, and dispose of all the contents in a Trash bin. Your mileage may vary.

I found Dharba Grass online via Google Search -- go to Google.com and type in these words: darbha grass buy online
and hit return. It is inexpensive, not the same as lemon grass.
