    That style of mouse trap is very common here in SE asia. Reminds me of when I was a kid my dad used to roast some coconut meat for bait. That roasted coconut reaallly smells good. Man, good ol' times..

    Interesting fact:
    I'm a Vietnamese born and raised here. I've seen this exact design of trap used for many years throughout my life back in 2005 even, maybe even earlier.
    So it's not exactly a new design, I'm a bit surprised that I still see this trap being used till this day. And it was super cheap back then.

    • @Memenado.
      @Memenado. 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also a Vietnamese, It’s kinda weird to see that the trap is quite expensive because in here hand made traps like that are pretty cheap. I used to have one and it was bigger than this but didn’t cost quite as much.

      @Stratos53100 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What i was going to say, It wouldnt take much just a few more pieces for a better revision, Others here have already said after a while they learn to avoid it, i would also extend the inner hook lower to make it even easier for then to snag the bait

    • @HalvardSkurve
      @HalvardSkurve 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also it might help to shorten the top wire. It seems as the trigger needs to be pushed up and forward to trigger when its like this. A bit shorter wire on top would keep the inner wire more backwards, allowing it to release when the mouse pulls the bait.

    Showing how fast these critters are, I watched the video one frame at a time. From the time the door snaps shut, it takes 3 video frames for the mouse to be at the door to escape. That is incredibly fast. No wonder they escape any trap that is slow to ensnare them.

    That's a very standard and ubiquitous trap in my place but I never knew it's called a Sri Lankan mouse trap. It's quite effective but only for several usage. After a while other mice and rats will avoid the trap.

    I bought 2 very similar traps off amazon, the only difference is the trigger goes all the way to the floor instead of stopping mid air, and connects to a trigger on the floor. These are awesome traps. Have got mice, rats, Lizards, birds, and a squirrel. The Squirrel was very hard on the trap, Squirrels need a more robust trap. I highly recommend this style of trap used with peanut butter if you have mice or rats. They are about $17 USD on amazon. They saved my garden!

    Flashback to that one time I decided to drown a rat in a bucket of water, caught in this trap (because snap trap is apparently not a thing in my part of the world), and the rat decided to try bite his way out. OFC it failed to escape, and it died while biting the cage. Still remember how I felt trying to remove the rat from the trap. Thankfully, I never needed to use the trap again.

      Place some old newspaper, old printout from your office, old magazine, or kitchen towel on the ground. Shake the cage violently to stun the mouse. Check that it isn't moving. Quickly open the door and dump the mouse on the paper. Carefully fold the paper to cover the mouse, taking note of the exact location of its head. Then step on its head with your heel. You will feel the skull giving way. DO NOT stomp on it. Cleanup would be more difficult.
      PS: of course, wear rubber gloves and DON'T do this barefoot. Sometimes, the paper would leak. You don't want that on your skin.
      These days, I prefer to use lethal traps. Cause I am lazzy.
