Non-Dual Conscious Realism ~ Neil Theise

  • We propose a generalized theory of “Non-Dual Conscious Realism” addressing the fundamental issue of consciousness. This theoretical framework posits the universing arising from an undifferentiated, non-dual field of pure conscious awareness. From within this universal consciousness emanate the complementary phenomena of Planck scale quantum vacuum and quantum foam, generating space and time, matter and energy.
    Through successive, recursive, creative interactions, phenomena and entities at each level of scale self-organize into emergent phenomena and entities at each next higher scale, comprising the entire cosmos. These triadic principles of complementarity, recursion, and creative interactivity (wherein “sentience” is the special case of the biological) are reflected throughout all scales. Though emergentist/materialist positions predominate in contemporary discourse regarding consciousness, the primacy of this non-dual conscious reality, which we emphasize is the deepest possible “panpsychist” perspective, is not contradicted by any known scientific phenomena. Also, unlike most emergentist positions, it is inclusive of the inextricable linkage between observer and observed, subject and object, decisively revealed by quantum mechanics. Indeed, at all levels of scale above the quantum realm, quantum-like effects - such as uncertainty, complementarity, superposition, entanglement, non-locality - reflecting such interconnectivity are recognized. Corollaries of Non-Dual Conscious Realism include that: materiality is not implicit in the universe, but is entirely a scale dependent phenomenon; the “hard problem” of qualia is subsumed by confirmation that all phenomena of the universe are qualia within consciousness; neural correlates of
    consciousness are not how consciousness is created, but are, rather, the ways in which the nervous systems (human or other) transduce consciousness into adaptive, species-specific perceptions and behaviors. Individual consciousness and associated qualia are part of the universal, non-dual conscious reality.

He is considered a thought leader in fields of liver diseases, liver stem cells, and adult stem cell plasticity. In recent years, interests in complexity theory applications to biology have led to novel insights regarding stem cell biology, non-Western models of the body, science-spirituality dialogue, and consciousness studies. With Menas Kafatos he is formulating a panpsychist approach to the relationship between consciousness and the universe. He is a Senior Student at the Village Zendo in NYC.

    I don't know anything about anything, but I think I understand why you call it non dual, and I really like that term. In my stories, which I just love to keep finding out are mirrored in things I know nothing about or haven't heard of, the world begins as a conscious being called the void, and when the void sleeps, it dreams, and the dream evolves slowly, as dreams do, getting more complex and more vivid until conscious things spring forth, and they begin to tell stories to keep the void interested in the dream, to keep it asleep so their world can persist. I've always tried to describe the identity between the void and it's dreams, but I've never had such a good term as non-dual.

      I read this book in the early 1980s when I was studying philosophy and social theory and it changed my whole worldview. Two doctorates latter I am still applying the ideas and framework to address the basic problems of “modernity.”

    Regarding the Beatles and the screaming girls, I can understand why you would believe what you do. However, my considered and vastly-researched opinion is, it was definitely a top-down phenomenon, with the Beatles caught in the middle. A good read is" The Beatles and Classical Conditioning". Also, "The Beatles and the Cult of Isis".

      But the Beatles didn't expect the phenomenon. And so, AFTER it began to occur, they (or Brian Epstein et al) decided to capitalize on it by starting a fan-club, etc.
      Bit the Beatles in the ass, as it eventually made it impossible for them to perform live any more. Their fun had to be had in the studio.

    Complementarity at the level of consciousness is very interesting point. Only heard it in the physics context. Extending it to consciousness is cool.

    I also feel as though stoic physics or the physics of the stoics should actually be examined, the idea is that everything is created by this Divine fire brought into existence by the logos or is the the logos itself and we are all to whatever degree we exist on this plane a representation or a fragment of that consciousness bound in matter

    IMO, explaining reality as consciousness brings the framework closer to standard definitions of idealism than of realism.

    • @neiltheise
      @neiltheise 9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Of course you are right: but we are saying that "idealism" IS "realism" and we should speak of it that way.. ;-) we've left this nomenclature behind, however, in any case: now referring to this more precisely as Monistic Awareness (paper in preparation...)

    • @MarkbyMarkAFosterPhD
      @MarkbyMarkAFosterPhD 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some forms of idealism are also realisms (such as Platonic realism/idealism). Today, however, most philosophers and social theorists make a distinction. For what it's worth, I agree with your name change.

      Neil Theise Yes, this is a tough sell, but it is important. Reclaiming the term 'realism' is part of it. Naturalism, Realism, and Philosophical Prejudice s33light.org/post/116680634647
      "The innocuous seeming insistence on a more informal meaning of
      naturalism and realism as materialistic unintentionally obstructs the
      fair consideration of the proposed shift to a model of nature rooted in
      perception. No matter how much we would like to believe that we can be
      impartial when using terms like these, the subconscious connotation of
      naturalism and realism is ‘right’, ‘practical’, and ‘sensible’. That
      association is actually a pre-judgment; a pre-judice against all
      post-materialist philosophy."

    Yes, exactly if there was an underlining Global Consciousness than Quantum Physics would not exist and there would be non-duality everywhere(a purely mechanistic Universe), but there is, there is non-determinism everywhere instead of non-duality, thus non-duality may be a misnomer, ..

    • @jrjohannes1
      @jrjohannes1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      True non-duality = Nothing left out. Even the single idea of One is not considered non-dual..that would exclude None and Two. No, non-duality IS Totality..is ALL!
