Well done Jordan, it’s a pity Burnley did not add to your success today, but I hope they will soon.

Do you think of yourself as a good person?
Well, as a human race, we aren't inherently good. We all have lied, stolen, and done bad things. Our very nature inclines us do what is wrong. Don't believe me? Well why is it that when we are told not to do something, that's the very thing we want to go and do? Or we want to do something, knowing that the consequences are bad but we still want to do it anyways?
But the good stuff you've done outweighs the bad stuff right?
Well try that in a court of law. "Yes judge, I know I've robbed a bank, but I've given to charity, I've helped people, given food to the homeless, and a lot of other great things, so could you just focus on those things instead and let me go?". If that judge were to let you go, that judge would not be just or fair.
It's the same way with God. Yes, God loves us with an everlasting love. But he also hates sin. Also one of his characteristics is that he's just. So if on judgment day, you say to him, "God, I know I've done some bad stuff, but I'm a good person. Look at all the goodness I have done, I pray every day, I give my tithes..." ect, he won't be just for forgetting the all the sin and letting you into heaven.
However, only 2 types of people are getting into heaven. Perfect people and forgiven people. Perfect people don't exist. However, God is so rich in mercy that He provided a way in which we can be forgiven. He provided us with Jesus.
Jesus was God manifested in the flesh, therefore he was sinless. Despite this, he sacfrifced himself, and all the punishment that we deserved for our sins, past, present and future, was poured out upon Jesus on the cross. Jesus suffered, bled and died so that we don't have to take that punishment. Jesus' last words on the cross was "It is finished". He said this because He paid the debt that was dividing us between God. He rose again defeating death, so that we can also. That's how much he loves us.
Just as in a court of law, if someone pays your fine, your bail, the court can legally let you go.
Justice and the relationship between us and God was restored because of Jesus.
If we repent (change our minds) from trusting in our "goodness" to save us and trust ALONE in Jesus and his finished work on the cross, believing in Him as our Lord and Saviour, we can be forgiven and saved. He will wash away all our sins and transform our hearts, giving us new desires for righteousness. You can also start a beautiful new relationship with Jesus.
Our goodness cannot save us, but Trusting in Him can. God's standard of the Law is perfection and we all fall short. But Jesus can give us His righteousness, as He took away our sin and filth.
Doesn't mean that we'll be perfect, but it means that we'll continue to grow in the ways of the Lord
