TRISKATES Powerslide Megacruiser Pro 125mm First Impressions Review (using SEBA FR1 Boot)

  • These are my initial thoughts on the Powerslide Megacruiser Pro Tri -frame with 125mm wheels.
    Usually these frames come with Powerslides Imperial boot. Unfortunately I was getting some ankle rub with this boot so for now I have swapped them for my SEBA FR1 boot - they are both very similar boots in construction and so I think they handle very similar.

    spot on assessment. i skate ¬20km every day as my commute, mostly on the nice smooth bike paths in the netherlands. 3x125 can't be beat when out running with the bicycles. when i cut through city centers, or lots of sidewalk cutting, then i prefer to bring the wheel size down to either a 3x100 or 4x84. i've found my 3x110 to be a really nice trade off; ideal for some relaxed city exploration. but again, i've got the bike paths of the netherlands, so i can afford a bit larger wheels, so long as i'm more maneuverable than bicyclists.

    • @whittyskater

      I would love to skate in the Netherlands with all the smooth paths. I also do alot of cycling so would appreciate that alot. The UK unfortunately is along way behind other countrys in terms of shared use pathways.

    • @AdamerioPhD
      @AdamerioPhD 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      well, i'm american, and i think the us is even behind the uk when it comes to shared use pathways... but here in the nl they've got it down pretty nicely, so might as well take advantage of it. i would highly recommend bringing your skates if/when you visit the netherlands. it's one of the best ways to navigate and explore the cities here. if it's dry...

      I always found 125mm a bit big and akward to be honest. I used them for a few months but found when I went down to 110mm they were a lot more suited to my skating style.

    Hello, thanks for sharing with us your thoughts about 3x125mm setup. I'm currently using PS Imperial Megacruiser Pro on the same wheels and I'm pretty happy with them. First and formost , I really enjoy the smothness of skating on big wheels. When you have some rubbish surface on your way they will cope with it quite nice. Secondly, I like the speed and what you've mentioned, that it's easier to maintain the speed. The only problem is stopping :D I'm not very good at sliding and that's what I need to learn now, because I think slides are the only reasonable method of limiting the speed.
    Anyway, I'm thinking about 3x110mm wheels as well or maybe I'll come back to 4x80mm some day. It's nice to change something sometimes ;)

    • @whittyskater
      @whittyskater  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your comments. It's really interesting to find out what others are using. 3x125 is certainly great for keeping your speed up and I agree they are so good for rolling through the rough stuff. I'm also interested in trying out 3x110. I'm keen to know if they are a little easier to stop in but still offer good speed. Hopefully in the future I will buy some 3x110 skates!

    Nice video - thank you! I've fairly recently switched up from Seba FR2s (4x80mm) to Powerslide Swells (3x100mm), and I echo everything you say. Like you, the Powerslide boots have given me blister and rubbing problems between my ankle and arch. Looking at online reviews it seems a commonly experienced issue, which is a shame as I love everything else about the skates. Only going to 100mm rather than 110 or, in your case, 125mm, I found the switch-up easy to adjust to. But the biggest benefit for me is how the larger wheels handle Cardiff's crappy surfaces so much better and have opened up routes that I would have struggled to skate in my 80s. Nice inadvertent almost-parallel slide on that tight turn by the way! ; )

    • @whittyskater
      @whittyskater  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I was quite disappointed the imperial boots rubbed. Apart from that they are really good but for now I will stick with my super comfy FR1s! I agree the bigger wheels def help with rolling through uneven surfaces.

      I have heard about so many people having problems with the Powerslide Imperial boots. How can such a big and innovative company get it so wrong? A real shame for the people who paid good money for them. As a result of this I'm pretty sure I'll be going for the FR Skates FR110. The Trinity frame sounds good but I'm not going to risk the boots.

    • @whittyskater

      I think alot of the problems I had with the imperial boot is down to the liner. I've recently tried them again with the liner from my rolerblade edge and it makes the imperials alot more comfortable for me. I would still go for the Fr1s though as they are an awesome skate!

    Hi, Great video and summary. So did you try 110mm yet to compare? I'm umming and arring over a new triskate and wondered what you'd recommend as I'm going for one of the FR1 versions. I'm 6ft5 (195cm) tall with 30cm long (so I think size 47) feet so although most people recommend 110mm wheels for triskates I was thinking of going 125mm as they have longer wheelbase (260mm vs 243 I think) which may feel OK (I mean not too long/high) for my size feet/height... any thoughts? Thanks!

      @whittyskater  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. I now have some FR1 310s. I have done a few videos on them including a review. Please have a look if you are interested. I personally much prefer 110mm. I find them much easier to control and turn in. I can see though you are very tall so I guess a longer frame and 125mm wheels maybe better for you.

      @dck272 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@whittyskater cheers I'll take a look! I was just going to get 110mm but some folk on reddit suggested wheelbase may be too short for me. So that's the only reason why I'm even considering 125mm, it's not really what I'd want otherwise.

    Hi, I'd like to do the same: these frames with Seba FR1 boot. Was it a perfect fit or it needed some adjustments?

    • @whittyskater
      @whittyskater  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The frame will fit just fine with this boot for the most part. As this is the older style seba boot which wasn't originally designed for tri skates I just had to dremmel a small amount from the boot so the front wheel didn't rub. If you get a new FR boot they already have this modification.

  • @Eugenewhatt
    @Eugenewhatt 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I got the mega cruiser 125 mm orange but the boot really really sucks. I have the same problem with my ankle and the inner feet :( I have even used a heat gun to try mold it to my feet but it didn’t fix the problem. Apart from Seba FR1 boots, what other comfortable boots do you recommend that are compatible with the mega cruiser frame? Thanks!

    • @whittyskater
      @whittyskater  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's really annoying about the imperial boot. To be honest I've only tried the Seba FR1 boot ( which I find super comfy) so I don't know what else to recommend. Maybe a Rollerblade twister would be an alternative. I know that would fit the frame but not sure how comfy they might be. Ultimately any boot that can take a 165mm mount will work.

      I will try get the FR1 boot as I only heard good things about it, but I am asking for sizing. How does the sizing work for you? I wear US10 for sneakers, and US10.5 for K2 F.I.T.

    • @whittyskater
      @whittyskater  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So my Seba Fr1s are a US 10 (uk 9). I own 2 pairs of nike sneakers and both are US 10 (UK9). I also own some Vans which are US 10 (UK9). I would say my Fr1s are a snug fit. My big toe just touches the end of the liner. When I first got them they felt quite tight but after a few hours of wearing them they stretched a little and were just right. After wearing now for over 6 months they are perfect for me. I do prefer the snug fit though. I know some people would prefer a little more room so I would go 1 size up if you are like this. Hope this helps!

Can I put these frames on the Twister Edge 110? The wheel length for both frames seems to be 255mm so am I correct to assume that the maneuverability will stay the same while only changing the comfort of the ride?

    when you started off with your 4 wheels, how did you handle the crappy path surfaces. i know these big triskates wheels smooth that out but i am on 4 wheels (84mm) and darent traverse the paths yet. still in the basketball court. there are really bad paths around here too. roads are too busy to risk at my skill level. all the best. ive done one actual street skate 3 weeks back and .. bang! on my back straight away and then nearly face planted 2 minutes later. went back to the basketball court since then. i have much improved since then but still cautious... all the best.

    • @whittyskater
      @whittyskater  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I started practicing rolling rougher surfaces quite early on. Try finding something like a man hole cover to practice rolling over. They are good because they tend to have smooth tarmac either side. Make sure when you roll rough stuff to scissor your feet. I.e. one foot in front of the other. This way if your front catches something your back foot will continue rolling and you will stay upright. Also as you roll through rough ground try to jump without actually leaving the ground. This means your weight is lifted slightly as you pass over the rough ground and you are less likely to get your feet caught. Ultimately just keep at it. It is slightly easier to roll crappy surfaces in bigger wheels but I actually really enjoy the challenge of learning to roll in smaller wheels! Good luck!

    • @klisher
      @klisher 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm know exactly what you mean,there aren't many good flat street surfaces to skate which also confines me to a local public park which has a small but relatively flat concreted area,,I recently went from 80mm to 90mm wheels and definitely did feel a difference in how they tackled the rougher surfaces,,so much so that I then went to 100mm wheels but I still don't think they're anywhere near good enough to tackle the streets and pavements where I live, the local council should be ashamed at the poor quality of the roads,,some roads I wouldn't drive my car down let alone skate down,,,,WHITTYskater makes it look so easy but anyone who skates knows its far from it,,,one tiny pebble or stone can have you high siding before you know it,,,,,throw in moving cars and pedestrians and its a good recipe for a trip to A&E,,I don't want to stop skating as I love it so the only alternative for me personally is to try the powerslide SUV offroad skates which have 3x125mm wheels with proper inflatable tires designed to specifically go over rough terrain like gravel,cracks,grass etc,,I understand they roll a bit slower than traditional inlines but I'm prepared to sacrifice the speed for safety and feel confident about going practically anywhere in them,,i'm expecting them to be delivered by the end of the week,,,I'm hoping its gonna open a whole new world up for me,,,

    I am about to purchase the SEBA FR1 (full setup but I just wanna talk about the boot). They just offer half a size bigger and half a size smaller than I'd need. The big ones might work with an extra pair of socks, but I don't want to wear two pairs everytime. The smaller ones are the slightest bit too tight (There's one pressure point on the top of my foot where my big toe leaves the palm, hope you know what I'm talking about. Other than that these skates feel nice). Now here's the question, since you seem to own them for a bit: Do they get a little more comfortable over time or should I expect this issue to stay and consider different skates?
    edit: read some comments and you kinda answered my question there. So for everyone wondering, here's what I found:
    "I would say my Fr1s are a snug fit. My big toe just touches the end of the liner. When I first got them they felt quite tight but after a few hours of wearing them they stretched a little and were just right. After wearing now for over 6 months they are perfect for me.
