Glad you made this video. I hydroplaned on my first street bike, a 1984 Honda 700 Shadow. I hit a wash out on the road I was traveling on after a very heavy rain, my bike needed a front tire, it got up on top of the water and I lost control. I skidded off the road and into a field. I walked away with a brush burn on my forearm and the right side of my bike scratched and bent. Moral of the story, never run your tires low on tread depth and don’t ride in the rain unless you have to. Slow down in the rain too. Arrive safe, uninjured and alive.
I live in Southern California. I have been riding for 47 yrs here in So Cal. Never got proficient riding in the Rain here, Because It rarely rains In California! Our roads get" Greased Up", then hopefully heavy rain to wash off the roads. When the roads get Damp from light rains, Watch Out! Do not ask how I know this.......I would rather ride a Motorcycle in a downpour , Than a light shower.
Yep, same thing in Las Vegas when I lived there for 3 years. Wan’t even safe to drive a car until 3-4 hours, not to mention the demon 4 wheelers. Got caught out the first time a mile or so from my apartment, hit the brakes at a yellow light and couldn’t slow down or stop, slid right through the 5-lane intersection without slowing until I reached the middle, then gave up and gassed it since it was red. Half a mile later, I had coasted to slow down to turn left into my complex ... and kept going straight! No front wheel or leaning control! Immediate Olympic level heart rate for the next hour!
Nice video, good advice on driving in the rain! Years back, I was forced to ride my 1977 or 78 GoldWing (1000cc) in the snow from Queens NY to Brooklyn! Wasn’t too far, but it required that same super caution or more when driving in the rain; done my fair share getting caught in the rain! Those new GoldWing’s are tempting me to get back in the saddle lol! 👍
I've never ridden a bike with a windshield, I noticed in this video that your camera stayed virtually, rain free and dry. Does a windshield actually keep that much rain off of you?
Different windshields keep differing amounts of water off and I've read that there are after market windshields that will keep you completely dry till you stop but you still need rain gear and I'm in the market for that.
I got caught in a storm twice no windshield going to help you riding in the rain is extremely dangerous you know how hard it is in your car with the windshield wipers going and you can't see then think about it

I’ve read many sources that claim a normal safe life-cycle for motorcycle tires is 5 years...hence the date codes cast into the sidewalls.

What’s the cause of that tinny sound when you got off at that T-junction. My 83 Suzuki does that sometimes. My oil level is good.
