The Pleistocene CO2 average rate-of-change was 1-ppm/1000-years, big jump up at the end of the last ice-ace 1-ppm/180-years we hit 3.05-ppm last year alone. That was 10-PgC/37-Gt-CO2equivalent and 5-times beyond "natural variability" from the 180-280 ice-age with a max of 305±5-ppm for 9%, at 405-ppm it's 45%. How can anyone consider that we are OK at 5-times variation over 800k-years with the oceans acidifying 10-times faster than the PETM from such a high rate never seen before in geologic history?
Tom will you be my friend on Facebook? I'm going to assemble a team of tolerant and patient profesionals to engage in dialogue with less educated misinformed people. Although it sounds contentious, we plan to also talk to each other and try to develop a consensus on some things. If I do my job, we should be able to develop an eclectic collective of educated tolerant people with good intentions. I could use your help! (Ubermenscholas king)
I just loved you also addressed other environmental impacts apart from climate change. Some People only care of ghg emissions and that's all we have solved the problems. No it isn't. We have loads of other environmental destruction activities running as explained in video.
Tragically we are headed in the direction towards a future world just like that old movie Soylent Green. The enemy is ourselves and our selfish greed. Can we adapt like using less energy, less resources, riding bicycles or Velomobiles instead of driving cars or living in microhouses instead of McMansions or being more vegetatarians instead of carnivores.Money and greed addiction is very similar to something like Methamphetamine or Heroin addiction.
So most of the people that are pushing all this global reform for sustainable living (agenda 21) are the ones building the mcmansions or travel in there huge entourage of security cars and planes. The movers and shakers of society should set the tone and show us how it's done

Our civilization is but a blip compared to the span of human existence, five thousand compared to several hundred thousand years. We are an event, not an epoch. The "Anthropocene" is an event.
tony shirren The science behind climate change is as irrefutable as it's ever been. This video just proved it! To neglect the information presented to you and dismiss all of it as falsities is downright arrogant.

What an excellent talk. I would love to listen to a Joe Rogan interview with Will Steffen.
Great Job in this explanation.... Very clear, concise, and approachable. I would love to get these slides...

2021 here and we are at 413 ppm.
I've heard the current era being called the Moronocene.
thank you
This was very interesting to learn about, really enjoyed it
Brilliant.

It will be interesting to see if we can reform

But then how is it possible that in some US states the collection of rainwater is forbiden which is a suitable practice to preserve the holocene!?
I live in one of these states. The water laws in the West...
Well Papua New Guinea was joined to Australia 10000 years ago

We should burn greenhouse gases in space, not on Earth. We should get water from space. We should get fuel from... space.
is it just me or does he sound american>?
...ironic...come back to the holocene starting with claiming for a piece of "russian" antartic land...
