    Honestly the more I've gotten into DnD, the more I'm noticing all the references and inspirations in YGO, especially in the earlier years.
    Kind of surprised no one has made a TTRPG based on Duelist Kingdom or the game talked about here yet.

    • @aaronwishard7093
      @aaronwishard7093 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Because Konami, in all of their infinite greed, hasn't realized the lowest hanging fruit that people have been begging for. And yes I genuinely have heard people say they'd want some variant of Monster Quest to be made into a real game.

    • @TheBeardedCaveman884
      @TheBeardedCaveman884 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Another major issue is, in the U.S. at least, DnD is the largest and only reasonably respected TTRPG 'of the mind', and it's also owned by Wizards of the Coast, who own Magic: The Gathering. As much as I know we would all love to see an official yugioh module for DnD, it's like saying you want to see Kratos in Smash bros., it's just not happening. If Konami did strike a deal with another company to simulate ygo in ttrpg, it would be a massive risk on their part, as not only would it require development of a whole new system, which would take years, but it would *need* to be supported for multiple years afterward to see any profitable returns. At least, if we're being honest. While it sounds like greed, it's business basics, especially for a large corporation like Konami, a few bad moves and a failed risk could put the whole company on edge.
      Now, if somebody wanted to develop a basic system for the ttrpg, and then bring it up to konami executives, if they'll even listen to you, that would be the best way to go about it. You see, corporations require something tangible most of the time, before they're willing to put any of their own effort into it. Boards don't like fantasies, and that's what this would ultimately be for them.
      And now I have some ideas involving GURPS and my massive collection of cards...

    • @lilsunny7399
      @lilsunny7399 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      i mean, the original concept by Takahashi himself in the Manga was a card game called like, Magic and Wizards or something. I forget the exact translation. But suffice to say i don't doubt there's some kind of DnD/MtG inspiration behind it. MtG did debut in 1993 after all, 3 years before the Yu-Gi-Oh! Manga.

      @@lethalButters You're aware that figure you're quoting isn't annual revenue, but total revenue correct? Otherwise you're absolutely right. I make the same argument with Pokemon all the time. They can afford to make mistakes and misteps, because they have so much money that a normal person would be set for their entire life if they had that kind of cash.
      Even then being in the top 25 highest grossing IPs of all time, the vast majority above them being Disney, and Nintendo. Konami could easily splurge.

We argued why a certain dragon can or can't be used lol

    Ideally, the Link Monster would be used as a final push to deal with all the opponent’s remaining cards on the field. It could work in something like Dragonmaids or Dragon Link, assuming the latter has enough dragons of various Attributes. Ideally, the maintenance cost wouldn’t come into play as the duel would end the same turn it is summoned.

    Looking at a video on Five Headed Dragon, it makes me think there’s potential for a “Was The Big Five about to defeat Yugi and Joey?”. One instance is when Nezbitt takes over from Johnson; had Johnson got another turn, used his deck master’s effect to banish all of their monster’s, destroy Mirror Force with Heavy Storm and attack Joey directly with Machine King defeating him. Yugi would be at a huge disadvantage at this point and would likely loss.

    • @phtuber5469

      Yugi would definitely lose in that scenario, because he would not be able to summon the mirage knight or the dark magician knight without Joeys help, and he doesnt have Slifer in this duel, so I really dont know what he could possibly do against Five headed dragon on his own.

    yeah, for me, and most likely a lot of other people, 5 headed dragon was and still is a cool fusion monster. yes it has its downsides and the link dragon has a high maintenance cost, but at he end of the day, both are still really powerful cards that were at the pinnacle of power at their respective times of release given that a majority of the deck is dedicated to getting them out, helping them stay out, and protecting them from the many forms of destruction like Raigeki, banish effects, negate of their summon, etc. Overall, a great card to have for nostalgia's sake, but not much else considering how easy it is to get rid of it. Great video overall. By the way, can you please do archetype videos for the Nekroz and D/D/D's as well please. I'm pretty sure a lot of people would love to see those videos and get a ton of views. anyways keep up the great work and stay safe.

    Fun fact, for those that don't know, the dragons that were used in Duel Monster Quest are:
    -Red Eyes Black Dragon
    -Curse of Dragon
    -Harpie's Pet Dragon
    .....and of course, the Big 5s Mythic Dragon. (Yes, Blue Eyes was also used, but it was later tributed for the fusion summon of Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon)
    Making these 8 dragons the perfect power boost for Dragon Master Knight, since it has base 5000 attack point, each of those dragons gave 500 additional attack points to the ultimate beast. 4000 points worth, giving Dragon Master Knight 9000 attack.
    Yes, Mythic Dragon is a combination of different types of dragons, each with their attributes, however their individual head forms had their power sucked into DMK, 500 points for each.
    Finally, its worth noting that although Curse of Dragon, along with Gaia the Fierece Knight, was used to Ritual Summon the OG Black Luster Soldier, it also had its power added to DMK.

    I wish there was a supporting archetype for five headed dragon, that would be "dragon of elements" like Singe, dragon of elements, Noir, dragon of elements, or other dragon of elements which if you use them for a monster that mentions at least two attributes on it with at least one being their attribute and the other being any other attribute besides light or devine, they give an additional effect to that monster with there being baby and adult versions of the "dragon of elements" and there wouldn't be a light one or a devine one to prevent unnecessary chaos support, and their spell and traps are similar to the Charmers but only can be used on cards that mention at least two non light or devine attributes, and they give the pseudo archetype element a boost as well as desert twister. That would be a fun deck to experiment with in my opinion

    Funny thing about Blue eyes and Bahamut is that Bahamut is the father the metallic dragons of dnd which are typically order aligned and benevolent monsters as opposed to their chromatic brethren that are varying degrees of chaos/evil. Blue eyes often gets joked about looking more and more metallic/robotic over the years in new artworks but really it just cause that’s how the metal dragons of DnD are like with the platinum white dragon, Bahumut standing above all others; gold silver, bronze and copper (amongst many others)

    The following text is from the Yu-Gi-Oh! wiki page, "Card Storylines"
    Petit Dragon began his journey becoming the familiar of Wynn, gaining more power as they both grew stronger. One day he decided he wanted to be able to breath fire, so he sought out a plant to give him this power. However, once he ate the plant his body ignited, and he was turned into a vicious dragon.
    Bent on becoming a more threatening force, he combined powers with four other dragons, making them all become nearly invincible, until the day when they were defeated by a powerful foe. The knight sealed Darkfire Dragon's soul inside a sword. This sword was then wielded by the Flame Swordsman.

    More fusion monsters that require 5 monsters of the same type, with a conditions on the fusion materials
    Five Headed Dragon for DRAGONS
    Quintet Magician for SPELLCASTERS (5 spellcasters with different names).

    5 Headed Dragon is such a fun Gimmick. It does deserve some support cards tbh, like:
    -Dragon Reborn: Banish 1 Dragon from your GY, to Summon 2 Dragon Monsters from your GY.
    -Dragon Energy Fusion: Summon any Dragon Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck. You still must use the correct Fusion Materials (From the Field or Hand), but You can substitute materials by paying in Multiples of 1000 LP for each Fusion Material you don't have available (On Field and in Hand).
    -Multi Headed Spirit Dragon: 9 Stars. Dragon/Fusion/Effect. Attack ???? / Defense 2500. Fusion Materials; 3 or more Dragon's. Effect; This monsters Attack becomes the Total of All Attack Points of the Fusion Material. This monster can be tributed (Not on the turn it was Fusion Summoned) to Special Summon, 5 Headed Dragon. If 5 Headed Dragon is Summoned by this method, Half of Multi Headed Spirit Dragon's Attack Points get added to 5 Headed Dragon's Attack, and the other Half of Multi Headed Spirit Dragon's Attack will be deducted from your LP.
    Yes, I made these cards up... but 5 Headed Dragon is an Epic card, it deserves Powerful Support!

    If you wanted to create an archetype for Five Headed Dragon (ignoring the inevitable lawsuit from WotC), might I suggest the dragon masks for the 5th Edition module Hoard of the Dragon Queen (which I've heard was kinda bad, but it was the first full length campaign they were doing for 5e)? There were 5 different dragon masks, each giving their wearer a different power. They could combine, and combining all five created an artifact that was necessary for the ritual to summon Tiamat from her prison in Avernus (the first lair of Hell).
    How the archetype could work is the five different Dragon Masks could be Union Monsters which give a buff and effect to the monster equipped with them, as well as an additional effect to Five Headed Dragon should it be used as Fusion Material. If all five Dragon Masks are used as Fusion Material (with Dragon's Mirror, of course), Five Headed Dragon would be more or less immune to everything but battle.

    Honestly, I have the Link version in my current Super Quant deck basically as a last resort, where the idea is to use Super Quantal Mech King Great Magnus's graveyard trigger effect to summon back to the field three Super Quantal Mech Beast monsters from the graveyard, and the quick play spell card Super Quantal Alphancall Appeal to summon one Super Quantal Mech Beast from the Extra Deck and a corresponding Super Quantum monsters from the Main Deck on the field in the event of Great Magnus's destruction. That gives me the 5 material necessary to summon Five-Headed Link Dragon, although it doesn't get the bonus field clearing effect through this method, since it pretty much guarantees that it would only get the Fire, Water, and Wind attribute out of the five necessary, as there would basically always be a Light attribute in the mix.

  • @snowboundwhale6860
    @snowboundwhale6860 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I still think it's a shame we never got the ritual version back in the day, largely because it was one of only a few cases back then and even now of ritual summoning that didn't depend on the sacrifice's levels. It took tributes of each attribute except for LIGHT and DIVINE, which would typically be 5 monsters (though some like Elemental Mistress Doriado could be all 5 at once), but didn't seem to have any level requirement, which for something that's usually a -6 is just as well tbf.
    I've probably forgotten something along the way, but to my knowledge we didn't get printed cards capable of ritual summoning using a property of the tributes other than total levels until Drytron with their ability to summon using ATK values instead. Rituals as a summoning method could've been way more versatile from the very start by having "different practises for conducting different rituals"; not just different spells for each monster but those spells using different processes. Some still care about levels, others requiring the tribute(s) have the appropriate attribute/ type, or potentially any other "material demand" we've seen on extra deck monsters. So in my mind Five Headed Dragon (Ritual) is like an old example representing what could've been, but what we ultimately didn't really get, and it'd have spiced up those old terrible ritual monsters so much if they actually had different summoning requirements. The Drytron ritual spell literally summons anything like it's trying to compensate for the fact they hadn't used the idea yet in the last 20 years.
    Even most Nomi/ Semi-Nomi monsters have built in summoning methods that make sense in the context of it being a ritualistic practise required to successfully summon this powerful monster; Sacred Beasts and their 3 sacrifices of specific types of cards, Masked Beast Des Gardius taking 2 tributes including a specific monster, Dark Necrofear needing 3 fiends to be banished from the grave (In the manga it fits even closer to the idea of conducting a ritual due to needing those monsters to have been destroyed by battle while in attack position). While it's fine that they aren't, a lot of them would have fit right in under the "Ritual" name even if they don't mesh with standard ritual mechanics as they've come to be known.

    Monster: either retrained version of the dragons used to summon FHD in the Capsule Monsters Arc (forgot about that time, didn’t you) or a monster based off of each of its heads; as well as baby versions of each dragon with similar but less powerful effects!
    Spell: a non-ritual version of “Dragon Revival Ritual” that destroys all monsters on the field when FHD is summoned and inflicts 500 damage for each one but it can’t attack that turn!

      Okay, don't get me wrong; I love this so much, but THIS IS STUPID BEYOND GAMEBREAKING. If I can, let me edit something.
      That extra deck banish 9 cards idea you have needs some work. For 1, maybe have it 7 cards (referencing how the name of your monster has 7 in it), and don't make it a quick-effect. 2, either maybe choose 1 monster's effect and not 3 (Imagine using this effect for Dragoon, Fleur, and Crusadia Avramax), or at least let it have a condition. Let's say the condition requires banishing Dragon-only monsters.
      I'm glad you have a "cannot attack" condition, but I have a feeling you can still FTK even with those effects.

      I figured since it was 7+ material fusion that can’t really be cheated out all that easy, I could get away with an otherwise incredibly powerful effect. Plus the mass extra deck banish is supposed to be even MORE resource intensive at full power. It’s a card that gets results, but I made this in mind considering how much meta players focus on “card advantage”. The phrase keeps coming up in Duel Logs, often as a main reason why otherwise good cards don’t see play. I’m busy at the moment, but when I get a chance I’ll tighten up the effects a bit.

      Oh, and before anyone asks (I get that question a lot), I specify Wyrm monsters as well as Dragons because Wyrms are basically dragon monsters anyway, but the type was made to make sure the actual dragon type wasn’t the most over saturated monster type in the game. I mean take a look at True King Of All Calamities and tell me that isn’t a straight up dragon. And if I’m going to have a 7+ fusion I may as well throw in a bone to make it halfway possible to fusion summon properly. I also considered real world things that dragons influenced or were influenced by: fairies, fiend’s, reptiles, dinosaurs, sea serpents, winged beasts and even fish were all also considered (_maybe_ beast-warriors too, regular beasts are more aligned with mammals or sometimes amphibians.)
