This is great. I loved the complex friendship of Jerry/Len/Ray. All great characters, and all forgotten now, especially poor Jerry. I can't believe what Corrie has become.
I always have enjoyed the old episodes...the stories weren't always edge of your seat exciting, but it was the Stan/Hilda's, Mrsl Walker (who doesn't know a nosy neighbour like Hilda? heehee
My Grandma and Grandad were sat in the cinema when they heard a lady in front of them state that Len Fairclough was sat behind them, my Grandad did have a similar look to the character Len, my Grandma was always quite flattered:-)

I knew the character Jerry was killed off in 1975 but I didn't know the reason was that the actor who played him, Graham Haberfield, died of a heart attack aged 33. What a tragedy.

Yes, the actor Peter Adamson was found not guilty of sexually assaulting two little girls at a swimming pool (he was in the habit of giving kids swimming lessons in his spare time - other cast members reported he was also in the habit of giving children behind the scenes tours of the Corrie sets). After the high profile trial he struggled to pay his legal bill (he had employed top QC George Carman to get him off). As a result he broke the confidentiality terms of his Corrie contract and sold stories to the tabloids on fellow actors. This resulted in him being sacked. One has to suspect Corrie bosses had been itching for an excuse to get rid of him, for they killed him off in a car crash, ensuring he could never return and added a little twist - that Len had been doing the dirty on Rita and died en route to meet his bit on the side! By all accounts Peter Adamson died penniless and unloved a few years later. I always liked the character of Len Fairclough but the evidence suggests the man who played him had a dark side.
i wasn't born at the time, but it sounds like he did nothing wrong. so he took some kids for swimming lessons, aloud them to see the sets behind the senes, and they put 2 and 2 together and assumed there was something more sinister going on? in this modern screwed up world where you cant even look at a kid without someone getting the wrong idea, i would expect it but i thought back in the early 80's things were very differentt.
Are you serious Adam? He was a paedophile! Thankfully, children who make allegations of sexual assault nowadays are generally believed, back then they were not. Kids do not lie about this stuff. Would you have believed in the innocence pf Jimmy Savile too? What a strange comment.
i know that being found innocent does not mean he wasn't innocent. with savil it was different. there was actual evidence. even a video posted where he openly molested a teenage girl whilst hosting top of the pops. i just think that what we have become now is a world where its too easy to make accusations and they are just believed without question or anyone knowing the full facts. my dad used to work as a taxi driver. he almost lost his job cos a girl accused him of coming on to her. he came that close. in one way we live in a better world where the police and courts take pedofilia much ore seriously, but also a bad world where we cant even talk to a kid without people getting totally the wrong idea.
No one holds a candle to the beautiful and lovable Richard Beckinsale, least of all grotty Ray Langton! They may have had similar 'seventies hair dos, but there the similarity ends!
Yes, Blanche changed physically, very dramatically, with the years.She was a strong, statuesque woman in her prime and very attractive I think - you could understand why men were attracted to her. When she returned to the show in the Nineties she was barely recognisable - she had shrunk and sadly had noticeably aged, I suspect Maggie Jones must have had health issues. Blanche had also changed starkly in personality - older Blanche was known for her sharp tongue and barbed insults to those who displeased her, she may have shrunk but her feistiness hadn't! I think Blanche became one of the Street's finest comic characters - who could forget the time she hijacked Peter's Alcoholics Anonymous meeting to spill the Barlow's dirty laundry to all and sundry! Absolutely hilarious!
Tricia may have been prettier than Gail, but she was dull as ditchwater, never had a good word to say about anyone and frankly couldn't act! Corrie bosses decided they had to axe either Tricia or Gail - I think they kept on the right actress, as proved by the fact Gail is still a major cast member today!
