Excellent job Adam! A small series on this particular Jaguar is an excellent idea. I was going to say that this needs to be driven in order for it to operate properly, and doing a full service, replacing hoses, etc., will help it run more efficiently!
I've been working on my own cars since I was 17, but I really learned the most when I owned and drove my 1984 xjs daily for about 6 yrs. I can safely say I know this car inside out. Miss it!
Systematic revival sounds like a great topic for a series. Persuading people to be gentle with spark-plugs, especially in aluminium heads, has been a problem as long as I've been interested in cars. They don't secure anything, shouldn't require any force to install, and only need to be tight enough to compress the washers. Little more than finger pressure either way, and if it rakes King Kong and a breaker bar to move them, something's wrong. (You know this; rant directed at world in general.)
People have often quoted the difficulties in changing all 12 plugs , particularly on the HE model. Certainly , it takes patience , using anti seize on the threads and starting them off by hand in order not to cross - thread them , as with any alloy headed engine. Wonderful to hear once all fired up
Agree, although personally I don't think starting threads by hand is a Jaguar V12 nuance but rather just absolutely standard good practise for all threads.
Adam, Very much enjoy your channel. Now able to work on my own 87 XJ-S V12…most things anyway! Would love to see you do some more maintenance videos on that customers HE. Thanks! JG from Boston USA
A trick for loosening spark plugs that have in the engine a long time is to first try to tighten them down a little bit, then start un-loosening them. That method breaks up the corrosion and carbon on the spark plug threads so they will come out easily.
Love to see how this XJS is brought back onto the road. I have been through this 20 years ago with my XJ12, one of the very first fuel injection cars, which I drove over from the UK to Germany. We did front suspension, cooling hoses, drive belts, ignition, fuel pump & filter, transmission oil and a new set of tires and it was good and run as a classic for 10 years...
Hi Adam greetings from Australia I have 2 xj12l &1xj12c 1973 &1977 all run however 1 xj12l I am rebuilding your videos are very helpful keep them coming hope your wife is OK Thankyou Rob sealey
Hi Adam , sure we like to see how your work through all parts to bring the XJS back on the street . Would be great content . So we can learn from you to work on our own XJS at home .
I have a 1987 XJ6 which I am trying to bring back to life. So I enjoy your channel for tips and tricks. PS Four AA batteries in a battery holder or a 9 volt battery works great to trigger the injectors.
When I bump sticking old injectors. Especially like this when it works and then not. I always recommend to send all injectors to the shop for injector cleaning service. They dissamble injectors and run throuhg cleaning fluid with pressure etc. They measure the flow pattern, flow amount and electrical side before and after cleaning. Poorly flowing injector is bad when engine has an load.
I looked into buying 12 new Bosch injectors. Multiply our $150.00 each and its a lot of Dollars. Sent they to get cleaned/flowed and screens changed. Had a bad ones. Got 2 from the junkyard. Sent them in. Bingo! All 12 working again. Isn't Spring wonderful. Ross
Yes Adam yes Adam yes Adam 😂. This is the reason I’m subbed to your channel I love watching you bring these wonderful old jags back to life! I’ve always loved the mid 80s XJS so was especially interested when you got this old one in. Would love to see a series on this one bringing it up to scratch. Love the channel 👍🏼
Hi Adam, A series would be fantastic, Always great to see these classics working as they should. Now you've made me want to go to my shed and tinker with my Rolls-Royce. Your videos are always great and inspirational Best wishes Eric from Australia.
Good day Adam and yes every upgrade and replacement will be more than welcome and appreciated. Hope your wife feels better and that she enjoys the Range Rover again.Have a blessed day and stay safe.
This is fanrtastic adam......ive been waiting years for a step guide to this.......how did u isolate the ignition and fuel for the compression check Droping rear axel for rear brake disk change would be useful to see aswell Keep it up sir......were loving it 👏👏👏
Love this video and I would definitely be interested in a series on reviving a XJ S. Since these cars share a lot with the XJ 6, it would be interesting for an even larger audience. Thanks so much for all the interesting information !
Good video again ;) I would enjoy to see more on this restauration as I have to do the same on my XJS-C...Then I can see where to start, what the steps are and everything....Thanks for giving me the will to do it !!
Would very much like to see all the things required to bring this V12 back to road worthy condition. And on the way, any bodges previous owners have made.
That's a big yes Adam, my xjs had new rear brake discs pads and calipers 3 years ago, with various brushing at the same time. Quite a job all part of running costs with a 33 year old car. Many thanks, very interesting, cheers Dean.
On my 1983 the number 5 plug on each bank (throttle pedestal area) were only in by about 3 threads. Luckily the threads were just filled with carbon and not stripped.
Awesome video Adam! you make some awesome content and hopefully you get that jagggg up and running. I'd love a facelifted XJS in a manual gearbox but there so hard to come across.
Would love to see a recommissioning of an old Jaguar. Would also like to see some more work on the later stypes. I have 2001 with heat problems and can’t make up my mind if it is the DCCV or the control board.
Hey great video and would love to see you bring her back to life . I have xjs 1982 v12 which was sitting for 20yrs ! manage to her going but now I’ve change plugs and HT lead and Dizzy cap and it as the right firing order but keeps back firing like the timing is out and won’t start ! Any thoughts? Any help would be appreciated Thanks 🙏
Hi Adam this sounds interesting doing basic back on the road essentials. This car must have been well stored. Did ht leads not so long ago on an intermittent v11, new plugs masked a week spark so what you have planned would be sensible. Really enjoy the videos.
Thanks Adam, an interesting vlog, what torque setting do you use for the plugs, I can't find a value in my service manual for the early V12? The water pump doesn't like sitting for that length of time either, don't be surprised if you have to change it, fortunately it's still available from Jaguars.
Thanks for this valuable information Adam! I recently bought my XJS that was in storage for over a year. Engine is a bit shaky at idle but seems to run fine at speed. A question: how do you tell or check that the car is not running on all 12 cilinders?
If you stand behind the car you shouldn’t feel any pulses out of the exhaust. It should be a smooth hum from each side. If you feel a strong pulse that is a miss
Yes please! That’s why I watch these channels.
Glad you like the idea
Yes a video series on how to bring back to life a V12 Jaguar XJS!
Glad you like the idea
Well done Adam .
Thank you!
I would certainly like to see that series
Great
Excellent job Adam!

I was going to say that this needs to be driven in order for it to operate properly, and doing a full service, replacing hoses, etc., will help it run more efficiently!
Once it's all sorted it needs a few long trips at high speed to get back to life. Engine seems pretty sound though
@@LivingWithAClassic It sounds wonderful!

Re commissioning the V-12 would be good to watch. My vintage car is the same...it hates sitting, these older cars really like being driven.
Hi Adam, I've been on a very similar journey getting a laid-up XJ-S HE back to life so I'd be very happy to see more videos on this car.

I'd put a couple of cans of Forte fuel system cleaner though it. It sounds wonderful as only a Jaguar V12 can.
Got some fuel system cleaner on order which I hope will help. Yes they do sound wonderful!

How can I tell if/which cylinders aren’t working?
How’d you keep metal cuttings from going into the cylinder when you chased the spark plug threads?
