People will easily spot a cooper coming in their rear view but they would easily underestimate the GTI for a regular Polo. Having said this, I am a proud Polo owner.

It dosnt need to have a dual nature and the gti looks soo much like a regular polo and for the price we pay they give us this? Definitely mini has the visual and driving drama required by anyone buying a car at this price point !
Good but is it not good to just go silently rather them grabbing attention on the road and wasting your time for the onlookers the polo is cool its so simple so unnoticeable that you will not have to worry about someone lurking your car because 80% of the people will just not notice the polo thats very good sometimes just to be in a car which is a beast under a polite shell.
U pay 26 Lac for a car that will look like a Polo 9 / 10 times ????? Foolish. Anybody in India who can spend this amount for a fun to drive car will not hesitate to spend 10 - 20 % extra and buy a mini cooper.
Mini Cooper S is good but I like the subtle and simplistic sleeper car look of GTI. About the sound of GTI, well German cars are like that, you never feel like you are riding hard but in real world you would be carrying fast speeds. Of course if Ford decides to release the Focus RS in India both these cars would be toast.
i am a great follower of autocar India . but this time i think the comparison is partial. the person who is able to buy these cars will not see the practicality. if i got i chance i will pick the MINI rather than a car which looks like a regular polo .

People do not understand the meaning of sleeper cars. There are Pros and Cons to both. What the Mini has to offers is fun if you take your car out on weekend drives on some twisties. If you need an everyday car which can do both go for the Gti.
LOL that's what our Indian mentality is , we just go for brand name not the car specs . Compare price , mini is 1200k costlier than GTI with same spec except lil bit bit of torque and RWD which makes assembly costlier a bit more but not that much . That's why Brands like honda , Toyota , Subaru , Nissan and Mitsubishi don't launch their Performance cars in India expect gtr Cause we Indian wants only Looks , Brand Name and mileage.

The reviewer is completely partial to polo though MINI is a way better one. And also comfort wise Mini would suffice city roads. It would been better if there had bought Golf GTI instead of regular polo. Golf would have had in better position at this price point
Bro, have you ever sat on a mini jcw or mini cooper s? it will break your spine in bad roads on long journeys. Trust me my friend has one and I have the GTi we always go in my GTi because of this unless we are sure that where we are going will have good roads.
Each to their own...but the polo would bore me to drive and for me the VW badge holds no charm or status...mind you in saying that, they are both great cars. But the mini is the one you want it looks good, handles like a dream and has seats that don't look like they were made out of a picnic blanket. Is 25lakh ke range me other car companies are providing many beautiful design and features car.. the y would any one by this ,only because of it's performance.. and specially indian market me practicle and features wale car ki zyada demand hae... No person in India would buy GTI . it's damn costly .. VW should have thought about Indian mindset before putting money even in Production cost ... as we Indians don't like to see same thing which has been around us for much cheaper price and just because of engine version change we need to pay 3-4x money ...
Why not bring the golf gti mk 7? It looks so much better and is sharper and is a legend in its own right. There may be reasons such as sharing assembly line with polo and also Indian roads that can get golf polo. But given the price point, I'd be more than happy to spend a few more lakh and get Golf GTI or Golf R imported. It's just too good a car. I think buyers should consider this option.
This comparison was completely wrong, but super spot luxury car vs ordinary car, I like mini.... Mini compares with Merc,BMW,Audi only not this local car.... I am not hate this volkswagan gti . Vw is good car but compare with Hundai,Honda,maruthi,skoda etc not mini Ok...
At this price a hot hatch is far from being practical. I personally feel if one should become practical pick a sedan and not the GTI. If rally is an option GTI would be the one to go. But when it comes between these two the GTI doesn't stand a chance against the Mini. GTI lacks the go-kart like handling that the Mini has and although having a good transmission doesn't justify the GTI's practicality in this segment where the people who buy these would be and should be behind the wheel. And that's all that matters.!!
It's a hot hatch. Stiffer suspension and heavy steering is mandatory for the handling. It's one of the best handling car for this budget. If practicality is a concern then get a SUV.

A fully loaded mini will cost you 40 lakhs or more. So polo at 25 odd lakhs is a relatively good value for the people who doesn’t want much attention.
Gti all the way it's a freakin monster, did drove both of them found gti better in all aspects, mini very uncomfortable not reliable.

Focus RS in India not happening anytime soon, even if they do they do I highly doubt they will bring the 2.3L Eco boost engine with it.

- 250 NM is with the DSG box and 320 is with the manual box. India gets the DSG, power figures are the same with the international DSG.
