Gold isn't it ? Also long drive competition from 80s, 90s..in 80majority or everyone was Tour player at competition. 2:42:52 - "paint at the top of the hole doesn't help either😂 and to see this is money, sit down with reporters while waiting before last few holes of your biggest tournament..
Thank you , USGA - this is a treasure for those who love the game... truly gold to be savored... a real tough Oakmont, Seve & Watson paired & Nelson at his best... great coverage and all those other greats...
@@bretts4544 And served in Vietnam ,there is a scene in Platoon which is based on an actual experience Larry had its when they are sleeping and a group of VC pass right bye them, a truly derived Hall of Famer and unequalled Ryder Cup record.
Refreshing to hear someone not making excuses for defeat and giving due credit to the winner e.g. Tom Watson. Always a gentleman and true sportsman. Tom wouldn't have fitted in with professional boxing - it seems to be part of the mentality of that sport to make excuses and give no credit to the winner.
I wonder what would have happened if Nelson and Watson had finished in a tie. My guess is the 18 hole playoff would have started ASAP after the final round ended due to the fact this open had a non playoff Monday finish due to a late afternoon thunderstorm on Sunday
Dave Marr irreplaceable, his knowledge, experience, modesty , manners and diplomacy a true gentleman of a bygone era not to mention captain of arguably the best US Ryder Cup team ever at Walton Heath.
These final round uploads are absolutely superb, thank you very much for sharing this great golf history

So much classic history.
The fact he didn’t pick up the game until 21 and won a major is insane.
3 Majors!

@mclapadoo7497 3 Majors! ❤
Two contenders who didn’t start playing golf until their 20s, and one of them actually wins it. Incredible.
I love these videos, thank you. They would be even better if I couldn’t see who won in the description.
Larry had 10 Tour wins 3 Majors and 19 champions tour wins !

Most underrated golfer ever. Won three majors and nobody knows who he is.
Larry was the classiest chapion that ever won at Oakmont.

Golfers, golf equipment, golf clothing, golf commentators.... never to be seen again.
Great video, but 'The' Open, is the original...not The US Open, so please...get it right.
The British open. Never knew why they changed the name of it.
