Last weekend I got my hands on some live tilapia (food for my peacock bass)...But instead of feeding all to them, I kept some back to use for bait...
The goal was to use them as live bait on hand lines to target Wolf Fish. But things didn't go exactly as planned, but I managed to pull out a last minute monster using a spinner bait!

I Searched wolf fish because I saw it on a video where one got caught in a lobster trap .. never knew the local guabine/wabeen was called wolf fish as well .. learn something new everyday .. there are definitely some bigger than what you caught though .. few years aback during the dry season all the rivers were drying up, so while walking along a river deeper into the bush my brother and I saw the last puddle of water ( like 7’ diameter and ankle deep) .. saw lots of splashing and birds flying down so we knew there was lots of fish. We had an old netted curtain that we would use as a makeshift net and we dragged it from one end to another, up and down. If you saw the amount of fish, I’m talking coscarob, catfish, cascadu, bushay ect the biggest varieties we ever saw.. there was one guabine similar to the size you caught, but we knew there was something bigger because we’d see the splashes while we dragged the net. We finally caught it and if you saw the size of it you’d say the one in this video was small .. the features were much more distinctive like the scales were bigger and the four fins were really noticeably bigger .. we put it in a blue barrel that was cut in half along with the other one .. made it look like a teenager.. I think I was like 12 at the time, when our family saw it they were shocked and was like it’s got to be really old like the grandfather guabine of that river .. this was in south trinidad, Indian walk before heading towards moruga
Wow...That truly is an amazing recollection you have there...It is said that we have different species of Guabine (Wolf Fish) in Trinidad, including the one that gets huge...But personally I have never encountered it...I have heard stories similar to yours about massive wabeens...That looked slightly different...Hopefully one day I might come across one! Back to your adventure...Now that must have been an amazing day...Catching all of those fish...You were in the right place at the right time! You will never forget it! This is one of the reason I think your channel is a cut above the rest. One minute you in the US fishing on a boat then next min you in a river in Trinidad then at a rig to banking in the gulf or on the beach like Mayaro or Maracas then a mangrove mix in a little cricket, a tutoiral now and then and cooking vids, all involving family and friends cant forget the competitions. Great variety I never know what to expect. Thanks for sharing.

i use to go in the arena dam with my grand father we use to catch bigger than those. you should try it . we used chicken gizzards for boat worked really good .
Those are monsters! I have never personally seen any that big! Hopefully one day! We have fished Arena quite a few times, but only with articials...We will try some bait next time!

I have fished with circle hooks...Mostly for Tarpon and deep drop banking...In all other applications, I prefer J hooks....But it is all what works best for you....

KoS M Not quite bro, you are most definitely wrong, taking a picture of that fish over ten years ago would have been the last thing on my mind as I dont even think I had a phone with a camera back then. The fish was brought home and there are many witnesses to that fish. Easily bigger than that 1.5lb fish in your video!

@@KoSMTT the water used to be Cristal clear, you seeing all the fishes, thousand of sardines surface on top the water, were you hold the wolf fish that basin is flat concrete, and huge wolf fish, cuscarub not sure if I spelled it right plecos 12inchs could be more, also my dad and I catch the sardines kept it live for bait up Manzanilla river snook crack we called it, wow I getting flash backs had great time with some friends there. (RIP brothers). Bro it was paradise back then, what mess it up was the construction of the Savannah villars and now people from the mountain side throwing stuff Into the River.

Hey kos if your interested in a night wolf fish run. I have a land right next to a river and we go some times to fish for wolf fish, it’s a lot of fun and it also has a school of tarpon that swims up and down the river ah couple of 3-5 pounders. Real excitement and fun I think you would get some great footage.the size you caught are like babies by me😂😂. Good job thou brother , keep up the good work.

I say the american (international) name, because the TH-cam vids reach to all parts of the globe...So it will be more easily recognised...However, if you watch some of my earlier vids, I did say both the local and international names. It's never about being "fake"...lol...trini names are just names here in trini....
