I've got a 12 speed automatic and it gave me fits till I got with a Eaton shop and got knowledge and so did they for my application (propane butane and anhydrous ammonia). Sence then not a issue. Steve, can you imagine that truck with the Candaian spread on the tandems??? Love the 18 speed and the aux. transmission. If I was driving heavy haul this is what I'd want. Now I would want to add a headache rack like you had on the red one that was going to run US and Canada.

I am very interested in this set up but would like to hear some feed back on how it's doing and what the shift points feel like . This would make being stuck in Atlanta traffic daily a lot better .

These new automatic trucks get better fuel economy then a manual and it's been proven at end of 11 hours driving u ain't fatigued like u would be driving a manual transmission so if it does the job or was built for who cares if it's got a manual transmission or automatic transmission in it bc u will have alot more problems with the def system before the transmission

Whatever makes money. My concern with automatics is more breakdowns and higher repair costs. If those concerns are unfounded I’m happy too listen to anyone knowledgeable about Pete autos.
Pete does not make transmissions, Eaton makes them for all truck manufacturers. Its the exact same transmission as a manual 18 but has an automated feature bolted on it.
Being technical you are correct about the actual transmission. I don’t know a lot about automatic but I do believe to the best of my knowledge Volvo’s and freightliner and international use air to shift automatically where as Pete and Kenworths use the rpms. None of this is really what I care about or am asking. My question was stated above , are automatics more likely to break down , more costly when they do and are they capable of doing heavy haul as well as a manual ? Thanks.
@@timmyo3162 from articles and threads I've read the ultrashift and automatics are more expensive to maintain, but cheaper to warranty. There have been several heavy haul drivers who I've came across who prefer the heavy spec ultrashift when running 150k+ up and down mountain roads hauling windmill farm stuff. When running heavu wreckers, I would to more of one manufacturer then the others, but never because of transmission issues, 95% of the time it would be DEF problems and going into "limp mode." Back to your original question, it's probably going to be more on personal preference and ego.
I love the old school shrouds on the stacks. I'm surprised you don't see them more. Kudos to Peterbilt for still offering them
