      @@AndiRohdeEnglishChannel why is everyone else on YT calling the offbeat the upbeat? I thought the upbeat is the last beat before the 1st downbeat of a measure

      @@ELLIOT8209 And you are correct in that.
      Well, I guess the upbeat is a concepts which is rarely used, so the distinction is not THAT important. Why many people call it the upbeat? Maybe because off-beat rhythms often FEEL upbeat? But that is just a guess.

      Actually, I did ;-)
      You can find a vido on the backbeat on my channel as well.
      Also "on-beat" is just "the beat" ;-)

    So question, why is it a 1/8th note shifted? (i'm just a noob) What makes that different from being shifted other distances (like the 1/4 or 1/16)? What makes it "off" vs. being just another note?
    Thanks for this, it is really helpful.

    • @AndiRohdeEnglishChannel
      @AndiRohdeEnglishChannel  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question! The quarter note is not shifted, as it is the reference point. The 8th note is shifted RELATIVE to the fixed quarter note. You CAN have a 16th-note shuffel, where the 8th note is the fixed reference point, but all 16th-note-off-beats are shifted and create a shuffle. I hope this clarifies things :-)

      @@AndiRohdeEnglishChannel Question again. is each instrument it's own beat or can you mix them?

    • @AndiRohdeEnglishChannel
      @AndiRohdeEnglishChannel  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ephraimstoddard5652 "Beat" and "Off-Beat" are general terms that apply to the main pulse of a song or exercise. I am not sure what you mean by mixing the instruments.
