@@AndiRohdeEnglishChannel why is everyone else on YT calling the offbeat the upbeat? I thought the upbeat is the last beat before the 1st downbeat of a measure
@@ELLIOT8209 And you are correct in that. Well, I guess the upbeat is a concepts which is rarely used, so the distinction is not THAT important. Why many people call it the upbeat? Maybe because off-beat rhythms often FEEL upbeat? But that is just a guess.
So question, why is it a 1/8th note shifted? (i'm just a noob) What makes that different from being shifted other distances (like the 1/4 or 1/16)? What makes it "off" vs. being just another note? Thanks for this, it is really helpful.
Good question! The quarter note is not shifted, as it is the reference point. The 8th note is shifted RELATIVE to the fixed quarter note. You CAN have a 16th-note shuffel, where the 8th note is the fixed reference point, but all 16th-note-off-beats are shifted and create a shuffle. I hope this clarifies things :-)
@@ephraimstoddard5652 "Beat" and "Off-Beat" are general terms that apply to the main pulse of a song or exercise. I am not sure what you mean by mixing the instruments.
