I watch alot of sailing channels that have gone thru the canal at all different times thru the years and I swear Roy has been alot of differet boats that I have seen. Thats crazy.
I wish I could have that experience of going through the Panama Canal. However my sailing days are over.so I see these things vicariously through other sailors.
Yes, it is nice to go trough the canal on your own boat. I have been trough there many times on Chemical tankers from the same company that own the tanker at 3:11 and onwards in the early 80's.
I love that. $2000 to go through there is a lot of money to me. Plus the extras like the Rope Rentals. It'll be nice seeing you on the West Coast for a change.
Wow, that's a lot of money. I guess the canal cost in building has to be paid for. From surfing these Vlogs I heard on one that investing into the big ships comes with a big return in your investment. They said it only takes 3 trips and a ships construction is paid for.
The fee or toll is many times cheaper than the fuel and time consumed traveling around South America. The fee is determined by weight. The cheapest was $0.36 in 1928 by Robert Halliburton, before he swam the length of the canal. The most paid was $829,000, by the MOL BENEFACTOR. Since the enlargement of the locks and canal have been completed it is estimated that Super-Mega Post-Panamax Ships will surpass a million dollars in passage fees. Fees must paid at least 48 hours in advance and in cash only.
All i can say to the "13" dislikes is for them to (1) Get a life. (2) Go bother someone else. These people are living a dream and they are kind enough to take us along on You Tube.
+Lakes Marine no we don't have anything put together yet. I am working on something for Panamá and Galapagos as there are a lot of cruiser myths surrounding the Galapagos entry and Canal transit. Will post it on the blog when ready! (Ash)

Thanks. And I believe upwards of $500,000 for a big freighter to go through the canal!

TheMonkeyrock77 - control of shipping lanes is a "state" concern...and the gravy is just that..."paid" for long long long ago.

Mikeysmiling Always I guess Robert Halliburton didn't have to rent the tow lines in addition to the $0.36 freight fee?

Good video. I'd have preferred the clean version of the song though.

So how much does it cost to pass through?
Do you have a cost breakdown of your transit anywhere?
