Three years ago my life changed. I was diagnosed with cancer. The treatment caused insomnia. One night at about 2am as I was sitting in my comfy chair surfing the internet I stumbled across Fruity Knitting. My mother and grandmother had been fans of various "home arts" and as an only child I picked up a few things, including some knitting skills. As I started watching your videos, I was able to relax. I took up knitting to keep me occupied during the many hours in chairs resting from treatment or just fatigue. I am in remission today, though the odds are very high the cancer will return. I will use your videos and knitting to help me through the challenge. Of course I will continue my contribution. Do what you need to do and keep the faith - your army will do what it can to help you.
My sister was diagnosed with cancer last June, she fought it and she is cancer free. Always fight, always have hope, take things day by day. God bless you!

I can clearly see an army of knitters lining the hilly paths of Wales as a miraculously healed Andrew walks past them smiling and waving. They all wear the most delicious sweaters, mittens and scarves and like me are glad they didn’t have to worry about covid travel restrictions or expensive plane tickets to get there, all they had to do was shut their eyes and pray.
I retired a year ago as an Oncology nurse. I worked the last 35 years in Radiation Oncology. I will be holding you in my heart and prayers. Take one day at a time. When you have a not great day remember that doesn't mean that the rest of the days will be that way. Get out in the outdoors, watch funny movies and always love.

As a long time viewer, let me say...I watched many an episode with Stage 3 cancer. Then Stage 4 cancer. I would fall asleep watching something happy. Later I would have to scroll back to where I remembered. I am 5’8” and dropped to 100 pounds. I could not hold my head up at night. I could no longer hold small needles so started knitting chunky scarfs. DR said to get my affairs in order, especially guardianship of my son. 5% chance of making it through the year. I have been cancer free for TWO years now. Thank you for being my piece of happiness when I was so sick. You both kept me company in the middle of the night when I was supposed to be sleeping. I really felt it was important to have something happy on while I dozed in and out. I wish some of your spectacular knitting skills rubbed off on my, but I tend to knit slowly and not so fancy. XO

Dear Cape Codder, I am reading this as Andrew and Andrea announced Andrew’s diagnosis, but more than a year later. Cancer is such an insidious and awful disease. We never know from the point of diagnosis what the story of our journey with this illness will be or how our story ends. I am thrilled for your good health and I hope it continues! You came so close to your end but you fought back and thrived. I am a cancer survivor and I almost lost my life to a broken neck. Every day I wake up is a blessing and I am even grateful for any pain I feel because it reminds me I am alive! Keep doing what you are doing because it is working! God bless you and keep well! Andrew and Andrea, I found you during a most difficult year, I was diagnosed in 2019 with Ovarian cancer while helping my father during his chemo/immunology treatments for his stage iv. You can imagine the stress...but you were there to brighten my days. Surround yourself with positive thoughts, activities that you love and positive people. I believe in the power of prayer, and in miracles. Today my father and I are cancer free. I pray for you, for your family, and for your medical team.

My grandmother was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in the early 80’s. She died maybe 20 years later in her late 70’s. She managed to exceed the “average” lifespan for a healthy female. This isn’t to give false hope, she had her challenges. But accepting life might look different from now on makes all the difference. Change is hard, but not impossible, and a happy life looks different for everyone. My grandparents had a very happy marriage, my grandmother needed help and my grandfather loved being needed. ❤️
You are so right about the chances that Andrew will do well. A friend who found himself in a similar situation to Andrew’s was feeling glum when a friend came to visit him. She said “You’re thinking about the statistical chances of survival, aren’t you.” And he said “Yep, 5% at the end of 12 months, which may as well be zero.” She said “That’s where you’re wrong. Statistics aren’t telling your story, because statistically, you shouldn’t have cancer in the first place. You’re fit, a healthy weight, have never smoked, have a good family and everything else that should mean that you are extremely unlikely to get cancer at your age. So forget the statistics and concentrate on all the things that contribute to recovery.” She told him to see if he could make 5 people laugh every day. Four years on he is still fine (and still making people laugh). Andrew and Andrea, you have brought us so many gifts and I hope you know how much you are loved.

Your courage in facing this, especially facing this publicly, is admirable, brave. You must both be frightened, shocked even, yet you created this video to let us know. I am sure that you have helped at least one, but probably hundreds of people going through similar challenges at this very moment. Just heard your news, my son is just in remission after going through a year of immuno therapy. He had two tumors. Surgery was not an opption. Please ask your doctor about this. It worked for him it may work for you. Prayers for you and your family.

This is news nobody here would have ever wanted to hear. I still find it hard to believe it. Science and medicine does not know it all, there are things in nature that are unbelievable. I do hope that Andrew’s journey through this will be one of those cases that medicine won’t be able to explain. I am already sending my best vibes and thoughts for your healing. You are making the best knitting show there is on TH-cam. Because you are two of the best people doing it. Try not to care too much about episodes now. Concentrate on this new journey. Be strong.❤️

When Paula Emmons-Fusele, the Knitting Pipeline podcast, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, a listener made a suggestion that was a vital change to her course of treatment. With that said, Lenox Hill Hospital in New York might be a source of treatment. You will have my continued financially support and life is lived one stitch at a time . . .
I KNOW what you, or I should say, Andrea, is going through right now. Our daughter was diagnosed with an "inoperable" brain tumor on her brain stem when she was 24 years old. She was given only 2-5 months to live, but she WAS operated on at Barrow's Neurological Institute in Arizona and she lived for over five years. Let me say that I was SO happy to hear you ask for our prayers. You have already been a WONDERFUL witness to your faith, which is a GREAT result of a HORRIBLE circumstance. We will continue to pray for comfort, strength and confidence in Him for your family and of course, for a miracle for Andrew.

You where such a huge inspiration to me during the first lockdown and really inspired me to knit more than just hats.
I lost my son Nathan and a beloved brother Grahame within a year of each other so understand a bit of of your grieving process.
My heart just breaks for you as you continue through this time of loss.
I too lived away from my family and know how difficult this can be .
Please know that I think of you so of you both so much and also thank you for what you bring to the knitting community.

Dear Andrew and Andrea, What incredibly sad news to hear. I have only been an occasional viewer of your podcast, but have enjoyed every bit of it, and will happily be a patron. However, I have another suggestion as well. We, as your viewers, are saddened that you will have to face anxiety resulting from financial insecurity while having to adapt to the changes to your lifestyle and focusing on Andrew's health. It seems that a gofundme campaign might be a good idea in the sense that it will provide some margin of support beyond the monthly subscriptions, and hopefully bring some peace of mind with regards to money matters. This will help us to do our bit in a very small way.

As a kidney cancer survivor for 13 years, I am holding the picture of you, Andrew, in perfect health in my heart and my prayers. I cried with you both through this video as I understand the fear, stress, and challenge that cancer brings to your life. I have to say, though, that I am grateful for what cancer brought to me on the levels of truly being grateful, of slowing down to enjoy and live in the moment, of reducing the stress and worry in my life-especially of the small stuff, and for the immense community of friends and family who came forward to support us through that journey. From what I have read in the comments here, we are all part of that community, and as one of those members, I encourage you to take time to do what you need to do. Rest, bake bread, lie on the grass and watch the clouds go by, knit, do whatever brings you joy. The Fruity Knitting community is here, holding you, Andrea, and Madeline, and will continue to be here regardless of how much content you produce, or how often you produce it. This brought me many flashbacks, the feeling that that news hits you like a speeding train, you didn't see coming. I'm glad you have each other and a warm community. I don’t think it was a coincidence that I became a patron after my cancer diagnosis in August. Your videos have been such a serene comfort for me during my recovery from surgery and now during radiation therapy. First! Of course, we understand. Of course!
Second: Take very good care of each other and yourselves, personally. As a person with a chronic illness that can take me out of life for weeks on end, your health is your number one priority. I am also a Type A personality and it takes daily practice to allow myself to be guilt-free and take care of myself. Feeling positive about your choices will encourage healing, feeling guilty will not. Both of you are enough, you really are.
Lastly: Everything will be okay. It will. I will imagine both of you walking the countryside with ease and joy. I will send positive healing energy while smiling. Stay present. It will be okay.

Sending you both a huge hug. You're both so brave. You have lots of knitting support all over the world. You're devastated now but you'll find strengths you didn't know you had. I know because my husband is also fighting an incurable cancer. After the initial shock comes a choice. To give in or to live. We chose to live & have done & lived alot together for almost 3.5yrs. That's time we shouldn't have had. We're still fighting & living & so will you. Love your programmes, so inspiring. We'll all still be here whenever you're ready to join us. I feel very sad to hear about this diagnosis. I understand many of Andrew’s symptoms as I had a brain stem stroke so I empathize. God decided that I wasn’t done in this place and I pray for Andrew’s recovery and Gods grace
I am crying with you. You both are amazing people. For me, seeing Andrea’s knitting is enough together with her tutorials. So sorry to hear these bad news.
I love your show and the news is devastating. I hope that you can explore other options. After receiving a cancer diagnosis years ago, I hit the medical library hard. I read a lot about my specific tumor, most of which has been forgotten, but one sentence remained with me, "even in the worst prognoses there are survivors". Holding your family in my heart.

As a brain injury survivor (and patron) myself, I completely agree than research into brain conditions is underfunded. Prayers to you both. Please just take one day at a time and quite rightly focus on Andrew’s health. I am inherently also a workaholic and have had to learn to listen to my body and if I need the rest, to take it. Take care and thinking of you both during a incredibly difficult time. If it’s any comfort, being type A is probably a good thing as it makes you fighters. My husband would claim I was belligerent, but I think being strong minded is one of the reasons I am still here. Big hugs to Andrea too as these things are tough on spouses.
I'm so sorry to hear your news. I know exactly what you are going through. 61/2 years ago I was told I had a brain tumour wrapped around my spinal cord - mine was non malignant but when diagnosed I was numb from feet up to chest and had started to lose bladder and bowel function. Thankfully I got a really good neurosurgeon who warned me I could be paralysed from waist down or even neck down. Fortunately I survived made it through. It has been a long haul and I still have many health issues, balance and mobility problems from it.
There are some wonderful Facebook groups dedicated to people who are or gave suffered the same they help with the many questions.
My advice is find out everything you need to know and have all your affairs in order keep your friends and family close.
I actually found knitting and crocheting helped me to take my mind off illness and give me a feeling of accomplishment.
