  • Biathlon in its purest form: slowmotions, details, tears and smiles, because disappointment and joy are as close as a shot on the edge of the target. Let the music guide you through the emotions that the best shots of the 2019/2020 BMW IBU World Cup season can give you.

    With Kaisa and Martin gone, this video should be called "the death of biathlon".
    And there won't be any beauty in it without Kaisa.

    • @Teaspooncat
      @Teaspooncat 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      As a Finn I would say it isn't the death of biathlon. We will definitely miss her and it will be sad without Kaisa... It's more like a death to Finnish biathlon. The French men's team won't really be affected that much because they have amazing athletes.

    • @Miss_Known_World
      @Miss_Known_World 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As a Russian who loves Finland and Kaisa, and also cares for Finnish biathlon, I would agree and disagree with you.
      Agree because yes, it's funny how one person managed to have pulled the whole team on her shoulders all these years, and all these years everyone has just assumed that it's okay not to prepare athletes to be her successor. Because Mari is not that good, unfortunately, and I'm afraid she will lose any remaining motivation without Kaisa. So yes, it is definitely the death of Finnish biathlon.
      Sorry, but I will disagree with you about this not being death of biathlon. Kaisa was the last of the greatest. It's not just my personal opinion - it's a fact. Biathlon will never be the same without her. And without Martin, since he is also mentioned in my original comment.
      And my personal opinion - I've been supporting her since I started watching biathlon (since 2008), and I'm not even sure that I'll be able to watch biathlon from now on. That's how she mattered to me. And to a lot of Russian fans, by the way.

    • @Teaspooncat
      @Teaspooncat 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Miss_Known_World I get what you're saying and somewhat agree. Kaisa is a rare talent who managed to be great even with poor shooting coaches that changed too often. It's just that Finnish biathlon has so little funds that it's difficult to train good biathletes if they don't already have the natural talent to compensate the bad training. Unfortunately all the funds go to cross-country and other team sports such as ice hockey. Cross country is more popular among young Finnish athletes, at least has been so far. But we can see that the training out there has been bad also; There isn't a potential athlete who could come over to biathlon like what Denise Hermann or now Stina Nilsson did. Agree totally on Mari. I think she will too call it day in the near future. OR maybe she will get more willpower and feel like now she will have to be the one to hold the team up? Who knows..
      Yes Kaisa was the last legend standing when Darya retired in 2018.. But we have to understand that athletes can't be athletes their whole life. Kaisa for example had major eye problems in her last biathlon years and we have to be honest that this was her worst season. I think Kaisa would have been able to be around a few more seasons (I would have LOVED that) with her still being in the top three fastest skiers. However, it wouldn't have gotten any easier for Kaisa, on the contrary. It sad for me to admit this, but it is the truth. I'm feeling regretful because I have only been following biathlon (only the women) from season 2017/2018.. I wish I had done it sooner so I wouldn't have had to try to search old races and watch them in Russian or German commentary, because those were (mainly) the only ones I could find.
      In conclusion, I agree, it will never be the same and watching biathlon will never be the same. I was thinking about it during and after the last race, so I felt absolutely devastated and cried like crazy. How I wish Kaisa would have made it to podium with Selina...😭 Atleast Julia got her first win.

      @@Teaspooncat, yes, I understand that Finnish biathlon is not funded properly, but isn't it Suomen Ampumahiihtoliiton job to find sponsors? Looks like it was Kaisa who did both her and their job. Well, anyway perhaps now they'll start doing something if they want to save this already dead body.
      I hope that Mari won't retire in the near future. we will need her when Kaisa returns (yes, this is my stupid yet very strong belief)
      Becuse though it was her worst season no doubt, she is still very good. I understand that she has problems with shooting and I understand that she is not a young girl anymore, but she still can show fenomenal results - unlike many others who are much younger. It is almost a crime to retire with such skiing.
      "However, it wouldn't have gotten any easier for Kaisa, on the contrary. It sad for me to admit this, but it is the truth". I agree, I totally agree. It broke my heart to see her upset after almost every race and sometimes I had a thought that may be it is time to stop torturing herself. But when this actually happened, when she announced about her last race, I wasn't ready and it still hurts like hell. So now I just hope that she has some rest, enjoy some non-biathlon life if she can, give birth (?), and after that comes back. She still has olymic medal to win and Forsberg's record to beat.
      I know it's too much to hope for, but I don't care :)
      And about Simon - sorry, here's where I'm not happy at all. I don't support French team and that podium would be better for me without her. Sorry.
