I love Metrics and statistics, thanks for all the teaching you do, I long for the day where I can train people like you do your incredible. You seem OCD about things and I am as well. My latest goal is 30 3 pointers in a row and ultimately 100 3 pointers in a row and simultaneously training to grab a 10 foot rim. Im 40 been training for 22 years currently 5'8 175 lbs prolly 17% body fat, adopting your principles along with my knowledge base as well. Any advice would be incredible God Bless!
Dear Paul, I wrote you, but you still ain't callin'. I left my cell, my pager, and my home phone at the bottom. I wrote 2 comments back in Autumn, you must not have got em.
Hey squid! is force measured in quarter squats + single lev elevated quarter squats related to velocity?? I've been willing to do VBT but after watching your videos and vlogs I'm mindblown! I really appreciate your content keep it up!
How do coaches know when a beginner is ready for joint angle specific exercises? Do you just always test the vertical improvements after gaining generell strength in deep positions until there are no big improvements of the vertical anymore? Would you stop training generell strength then and just maintain and start with these specific exercises or does an athlete benefit more if he mixes generell strength and joint angle specific strength at some point?
Farasa zahabi said in a joe Rogan podcast. When you train it should be fun. You should be feeling fresh after your workouts if your not youve gone overboard... you should never be sore after training and should be able to train everyday...
Hey paul, Is it possible to gain vertical jump to around 40+ inch by training without any weight? So that's mean bodyweight only and not on losing fat phase (or bulking).
Probably not since your body will eventually run into a plateau from lack of strength development. While you can fully train your CNS and tendons using plyos, you won’t be able to with strength without external resistance. That being said, if you’re set on avoiding weights at all costs, resistance bands would be a great substitute. If you’re a bit lenient, I’d suggest weighted plyos and using kettlebells
My 13 yo daughter is doing your BW Vert Code and on Week 3. She has about 6 days before her VB tryouts. They will be measuring her vertical. What would you recommend she should do these next 6 days to help ensure her optimal performance?
Hi Paul, I want to purchase the VertCodeElite Program per month, but I haven't got a credit card. I do have Paypal but I don't see a possibility on the website to buy it via Paypal. Could you help me with this? Another question: Is it possible to stop the program after a month or when you want to stop?
Is there a benchmark for how much you should be lifting for your rear-elevated squat? For example, if my 1-rep max squat is 3 plates how much should I train for my rear-elevated to get stronger. Also, what are the best ranges for strength also for rear-elevated squats.
Depends on your training age and overall true strength. If you’re a well trained elite athlete in a D1 program you can probably do about 80% of your bilateral 1RM. Less elite you might be 60-65% range. But there is no 100% perfect equation for translation
Probably. But the smith machine allows you to get closer to your maximal output without risking safety. Plus his specific Smith machine has some give, so it doesn't stay perfectly up and down.
How can you tell when an athlete is ready to do heavy quarter squats to increase their neural drive and vertical jump? Could this help if a well trained athlete has hit a plateu and has not implemented quarter squats yet?
Probably when full ROM stalls, or gets too slow like in powerlifting, for VJ you gotta have FAST contractions if you are a intermediate to advanced trainee
I saw benefits immediately from switching to quarter squats, I’m 17, my little brother at 14 same thing. Been doing it for about 6 months w hex bar deadlifts twice a week. Make sure to explode up. One thing that was hard for me when I first started was my traps weren’t developed at all, so I was only doing 315 because it hurt my traps. At around month 4 I was at like 375 and from months 4 to 6 I got up to 455, my traps don’t hurt or feel super sore anymore, gained only about 5 lbs in weight (185). Do core exercises like V snaps. Make sure your knees aren’t too far forward, the motion should be like your about to take off for a rebound. Work up the weight to about 2.5-2.75 of your body weight. Do 3 sets of 3 reps, good for power and avoids fatigue within reps. Superset with box jumps, or high hurdle jumps, or any other explosive jump movement, depth jumps. Start lighter and be explosive, if you have a spotter feel free to add more weight, you’ll be surprised by how much you can add, my sister at 150 started at 205 and by week 3 she was at 295 because I pushed her to. After this I do barbell on my back single leg steps ups onto 6 inches (2 plates on top of each other basically) at 335, which is light but explosive. 3 sets of 3. Comment back if you have questions or even if you want help.
Im starting to realize that just because you don’t have the genetics that doesn’t mean that you can’t achieve it. I’m not a genetic freak by any means, but the limitations you put on yourself is a lot worse than not having good genetics.
What about Powerlifts? There are Many documented Olympic powerlifters with high verticals. I’ve seen small Russian and chinese powerlifters with 50+ verticals on TH-cam and they don’t even jump regularly. Cmon obviously , Not a coincidence. If you don’t know, look into incorporating it. Or Is it a Risk to Reward ratio not good like doing deadlifts? If you can master one or two power-cleans w correct form. I think it would be w tremendously beneficial for Vertical explosion.
Training specific joint angles. In a game you'll probably jumping from around a quarter squat off of two feet. So overloading it in the weight room will help translate to in game two foot bounce
