I remember when this was played again in episode 84. It was absolutely brilliant. The symbolic meaning of the entire sequence was finally made clear to to the audience, given what had happened in the previous few episodes. Even taking into account the fact that the OVA was based off a series of novels, the fact that they had this for their first ending sequence shows that the producers and writers knew exactly where the story was going from day one. There was a real vision behind LoGH that I don't think we'll see again.
+CosmicCommander The episodes before can leave you kind of numb, but then they hit you with this and the emotion, if you've watched all the way from the beginning, is indescribable. Game of Thrones can only wish it's character deaths could be this moving. This is the true epic.
Unfortunately they've never been translated to English. There are fan translations, but I don't think they have much literary quality. The first novel in the series is getting an official translation later this year, so I'm waiting on that.

I was actually stoned when I watched episode 84. Since episode 83 was heavily foreshadowed, I had time to open a few bottles for the first and only occasion when I needed alcohol to get over a fictional character death. Wasn't able to watch this ending with the same eyes either. Poor Julian Mintz, just couldn't help hating him for being still alive. Oh my. The animation of this 30 years old anime is so simple and this is such a simple song. But what a high bar for the upcoming re-adaptation to reach.

This is hands down the best show I have ever watched and will ever watch, for me this is the ultimate storytelling pinnacle. The perfect usage of Sound, the depth of the characters, the raw emotions displayed in the Story, one of a kind.

If only LoGH classic was closer to the novels like DNT...maybe then it'll be even greater. I read the novel before watching the animes and it took me out of the experience pretty hard.DNT is much closer to the novel, but it's art style can't compare to Classic
This anime is good but very overrated. The actual plot itself was near-perfect. This is how you do a massively scaled story perfectly, Gurren Lagann and One Piece. Where this anime fails though is the characterization. Reinhard and Yang are Gary Stus; because of this, they are hard to take seriously. Don't even get me started on how people consider this anime to be deep. There certainly isn't enough depth to justify a 10/10. For depth, I suggest Ergo Proxy if you can understand it. You may have to watch it a few times but I still highly recommend it.
Jio Jio Yang is a mentor and Reinhard is indeed a Gary stu but that gets developed forward the series those making him better than other Garry stu type of character, also every series has problem so 10/10 isn't perfect but at least you gotta give this show an 8.5 or 9 out of 10 so it's far from being overrated because overrated series are series that are average, mediocre or bad that are considered good a good series can't be overrated
Yang is not a Gary Stu. He is often an underdog, who earned experience by studying story. His tactics all made sense, its not like he is pulling out the strategies out of nowhere, he is experienced, he plays safe, he is always consistent in his decisions. He seems kind of naive sometimes, but he is not, and he usually take advantage because people do underestimate him. I cant see how he is a Gary Stu.
Also, Ergo Proxy and legend of galactic heries are nothing alike to be compared. I dont understand the "depth" tyou are looking for here. Ergo proxy is a dementia, it should be alegorical;. AND LOTGH HAS DEPTH, few anime have been so consistent with its themes, developed so deeply on the theme of war and human history..... and no anime out there have had character so detailed like LotGH... these are reasons enough to get a 10/10. I dont mean to undermine your opinion, just state mine

If only LoGH classic was closer to the novels like DNT...maybe then it'll be even greater. I read the novel before watching the animes and it took me out of the experience pretty hard.DNT is much closer to the novel, but it's art style can't compare to Classic

This anime is good but very overrated. The actual plot itself was near-perfect. This is how you do a massively scaled story perfectly, Gurren Lagann and One Piece. Where this anime fails though is the characterization. Reinhard and Yang are Gary Stus; because of this, they are hard to take seriously. Don't even get me started on how people consider this anime to be deep. There certainly isn't enough depth to justify a 10/10. For depth, I suggest Ergo Proxy if you can understand it. You may have to watch it a few times but I still highly recommend it.
Jio Jio Yang is a mentor and Reinhard is indeed a Gary stu but that gets developed forward the series those making him better than other Garry stu type of character, also every series has problem so 10/10 isn't perfect but at least you gotta give this show an 8.5 or 9 out of 10 so it's far from being overrated because overrated series are series that are average, mediocre or bad that are considered good a good series can't be overrated
Ergo proxy not even that good, 7/10 at best, if you want minduck, watch Serial experiment lain and Texhnolyze. Watch Monster too.
Yang is not a Gary Stu.
He is often an underdog, who earned experience by studying story.
His tactics all made sense, its not like he is pulling out the strategies out of nowhere, he is experienced, he plays safe, he is always consistent in his decisions.
He seems kind of naive sometimes, but he is not, and he usually take advantage because people do underestimate him.
I cant see how he is a Gary Stu.
Also, Ergo Proxy and legend of galactic heries are nothing alike to be compared.
I dont understand the "depth" tyou are looking for here.
Ergo proxy is a dementia, it should be alegorical;.
AND LOTGH HAS DEPTH, few anime have been so consistent with its themes, developed so deeply on the theme of war and human history..... and no anime out there have had character so detailed like LotGH...
these are reasons enough to get a 10/10.
