Genuinely one of the best series I have ever watched on youtube. Massive respect to the E46 (and yourself) for making it so far- I am very much looking forwards to the next episode!
To be honest, it is hilarious seeing a British man experiencing actual winter :D But I completely understand your fear and concerns, as you have not had much experience in similar conditions. What you genuinely have to be scared there is only snowstorms/blizzards, as without 4wd and clearance you can get stuck very easily, and the roads don't seem to be cleaned well at all.
We don't really get proper winters in England anymore. Northern Scotland kind of does but still nothing on the scale of what the USA and Canada gets. The thing I was worried about was a storm, as I understand they happen randomly and when if that would have happened I'd have been very stuck and relying on truck drivers to help me. Thanks for watching. :)
I really really love this series. And your YT channel, as I have already said. This video impressively shows your driver skills and, more important, the ear for the tech around you. That Beemer is really great! And what a really nice birthday present for me - a video from you planned on the 3th of January! :)I am really excited about the next adventures... will the Beemer start...?
You’ve driven some roads most Americans wouldn’t dare drive. And you’ve done it in a 20 year old 3series. 😂 this is fantastic content. I’ve watched all the series. 👏🏼 great job on the content
@@OlliePenny I am from Latvia, and our winters are reaching -25c, whereas summers are up to +30c Nowadays the climate feels shifted, for around 4 years the weather is way more hot, the winter is around -15c
@@OlliePenny I have worked on M57 E65 quite lot, and one of my friends who moved to north of Norway, have done some improvements on his car to ensure it would go smooth in cold 1. He put’s insulation around battery 2. The battery was way over the required AH/A amount so it would not drain 3. He ensured the fuel filter heater works 4. We’ve changed the glow plugs + control block, that way before you start car, you turn the key to last position for 3-4 times and give each try around 10-15 seconds, it builds the fuel pressure + heats cylinders
100 for new tires that will possibly give you a better grip during winter conditions. 0:45 I'd Justify the price as a safety issue or investment in my mode of transport. The same amount I would have to spend on tires I don't want to have to spend on getting a tow. PS wow those tires had the holes for traction spikes to be put in them too.
Mega stuff will the BM make it 🤔 and what next for the car 🤔 whatever you do dont abandon it in the States ☹️ you should write a book about all the cars adventures 🤔🤔 Best thing on TH-cam to watch 👍🏻👌🏻😎
For the experience it would have been shorter and cheaper if you took the ferry from England to Bergen and travelled to northern Norway in winter. There you'll also meet real Iceroad drivers who have to drive 60 tonnes over narrow, winding roads and where passes are sometimes closed for a few days. But I like people who are a bit crazy.
The car wasn’t shipped specifically to drive around Alaska for a week. It was cheaper to ship it to the USA rather than rent/ buy one for the 5-6 months I was over there. The ferry from the UK to Norway got cancelled a few years ago. It’s rumoured that a new one will be back on for 2026. I’d like to go to northern Norway. 👍
Just continue cranking and give it some gas.... What's the problem? I started my old MB 250 Diesel -92 in -25 without any problems whatsoever. Starter just sounds a little tired as it cranks the engine. Anything mechanical might feel a little different until it gets up to temp. Nothing to worry about.
Good question. Grit only works at until -8c. They put a sort of salt/ brine mix on some specific steep sections. But it just doesn’t last long as it just dilutes and washes away. There just isn’t really enough population up there to deal with it and ultimately, the truck drivers manage. 👍👍👍
Man I can’t wait to take this type of road trip in my 1998 Lexus GS300 soon man I’m aiming for summer 2026 bc I need time off work out to 1.5-2 months and I plan on driving from NJ through Chicago, Minnesota to Montana into Canada all the way to the Artic Circle and stay at the motel at the end of the Dalton Highway than my plan from there is where I plan to take my time exploring Alaska and slowly coming back through Canada and entering the USA through Niagara Falls than driving up to Bay Harbor Maine and back to NJ… I want to car camp the whole trip except the obvious few nights I stay in a motel and I’ll use campground showers and planet fitness showers to keep clean… I plan to do the whole trip in 30-35 days and I want the extra time off work for wiggle room if I like an area and want to stay or run into problems that delay parts of my road trip exc so I can make it back to work on time and get to complete my trip on my time and not rush it if something were to happen like a car problem that stops me for two weeks exc… This summer my Road trip I want to do is drive from NJ to Austin TX than to the Grand Canyon than the Hoover dam than Vegas than Los Angeles than go to the Red Woods Forest than Yosemite and than Yellowstone than to Chicago for a day than home in NJ… I wanted to originally do both trips combined into one but I couldn’t realistically take that much time off work an I want to enjoy bothe trips an really experience everything without having to rush through things since it’ll be a first for me for both trips and I don’t want to get burnt out to the point I’m just on auto pilot getting through the trip after a month or so like most people experience when they say they go from not traveling to living van life an road tripping they always say they experience a burn out which is tiring anxious and depressing
Love how people talk to there car's like it's a dog following you at a park....I do the same....give it a name and it will start better....I bloody promise
Another solid video, Bro. Just straight to the point with everything! We specifically produce LEDs for auto. Can we invite you as a collaborator to do a review? If so,How can we connect with you?

thanks mate, that's really great to hear. I'm pleased you're enjoying it. :)

Gotta crank it longer!
-20°C is a lot for the bad coolants sold in warm climates. If the water inside the block froze, you're pretty much screwed.
Welcome back, amazing journey, and happy new year to you Ollie
happy new year too. :)
He’s back! 🤘
This e46 needs after its journey to be in the BMW museum in Munich. At least in the BMW Welt. #bmwmuseum #bmwwelt (edit typo)
Can't wait for the next part, haha.
you should have cranked it longer, it would start on 2nd try.
Excellent video mate. What a cliffhanger to leave us on
truly entertaining and riveting content! this video was especially nerve-wracking! definetely deserves more recognition
Much appreciated!
brill mate well done😁
Thanks Duncan. Was a bit scary ha ha.
3:17 that road looks like studded tyres are needed
❤. Damn your brave. 😊
Unreal mate
I just can't believe how far you have made it mate...01:49 on the clock - onto the latest video, let's go!
Cheers mate. 👍👍👍
Making us wait. Grrrr😂. My dog was going nuts hearing the wolves in the back ground
That little squirm at 13:10 😂 fair play!
Legends says that you are still trying to start the Beamer till this day 😂
Also your lucky the truckers did not hit you drinking Bud Light lol thats the beer of Queens haha
I really wanna drive the Dalton road one day, maybe in a car that's slightly better suited for it ha

😂😂 so fun with snow
Drinking that bud light is what caused the bmw to struggle with starting 😂
Beat up old BMW! Why risk your life in the artic in this junk box?
Respect truck drivers
Is that an older rear wheel drive? You could’ve at least got one with Xdrive. Would have been safer.
Incredibly rare and expensive at home. This car was $700.
18:00 damn living in europe it feels that Alaskan winter is chill AF temperature-wise
18:30 the clank-o-matic diesel not starting in winter also chill AF
“Clank-O-Matic diesel” that’s hilarious. 😂😂😂😂
It depends where in Europe. A lot of Europe gets super cold! However, it’s currently -26 in Coldfoot.

Diesel, Brother! Only diesel!
Diesel bro. Diesel. ❤️
You called someone a dickhead for sliding while you're in a car with summer tyres on. The irony.

The snow tires would be worth every penny

Why dont they grit the roads? seems crazy to just have the roads covered in ice even if its Alaska

@OlliePenny Aha 👌 I didn't know that cheers
No US license plates?
He is British, so of course his car must be registered in the UK.
It’s registered in the UK. 🇬🇧
You gotta save the hero car now and get it a complete makeover after this journey
Why would you go without cold temperature tires / winter or studded tires ..
Heavy weight helps
Sand bags I used to use
I do have winter tyres. Michelin CrossClimates
I laughed so much!! 😂 Fucking genius
Don't stop cranking til it starts you'll wear the battery down. Nice adventure!
RWD or xDrive?
