      @@ChicagoSledder Nova and Polaris are not identical. Polaris's six fins inside a bell is lowered from Nova.
      QuietStove Model 600 is for Nova, and it locates low when used on Polaris as shown in this video.
      Actually, it seems Nova cap is working nicely, and I personally prefer this central flame rather than regular wide spread flame, however, Model 600 is not designed for Polaris indeed.

    The only thing that annoys me with the Optimus, is that the pump handle don’t stay inside the pump after you’ve finished pumping. The MSR one does. Which is a complete deal breaker for me (winter expeditions - trans Finland / trans Norway). Every second counts. I have the Nova, which has the same pump “defect”. Yes I’ve tried the workarounds. Too bad, because if the pump handle had behaved better, the Nova would have been my main pump, and not my reserve.

    I've never had a primas stove. Having said that I THINK I like the burner set up best becuz it appears to be better 4 fry pan usage,ie, better distribution n w/o hot burn spot on my fry pan center. That's good 4 fryg n 4 dry baking all of which makes me love a good trip out !!

  • @truthseeker104
    @truthseeker104 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video, Just bought the Polaris, it seems to work ok but isn't as "smooth" as the Whisperlite in operation . I guess one of the major differences between a ported burner like the Whisperlite vs the Polaris is that the jet mixes fuel with air before the combustion part of the stove, in the Polaris and similar stoves the mix takes place simultaneously which may affect how smoothly they run. I also found that the Polaris doesn't simmer well on gas but the Polaris seems like a Nova with added gas canister option so I guess it was originally designed for liquid fuel. The Primus Express Spider has the opposite problem it runs really well on gas but not so well on liquid fuel. Also it looks as though the Polaris is now made in Taiwan so perhaps a drop in quality, the flat washer on the fuel bottle/pump attachment wasn't good (leaked) so I replaced it with an old style MSR round cross section washer which is much better. I think the MSR stoves are generally better in quality, but that's just my opinion!

    Hello, if the MSR lengthene the hose just for better compactness with the large cartridge, it would increase fuel consumption when the fuel burns out from the hose after each cooking. I think it's better to turn the cartridge upside down or put the burner in a higher position.
    But I would like to ask, what would happen if you use less burning fuels (diesel) in the MSR stove and does not change nozzle. According to my opinion WHISPERLITE would burn just little worse as POLARIS (which uses one nozzle for all types of fuels). But after change the nozzle WHISPERLITE would be works better than POLARIS. Would it be possible to make a video of this extreme condition test?
    Thank you.
    Same thank you for educational videos, great job!

  • @MrTangent

    I was sold on the MSR Whisperlite until I saw these videos on the Optimus.
    Question: Can you run ethanol (Everclear), denatured/methylated alcohol or isopropyl alcohol via the fuel bottle/pump on the Optimus? And would there be any issues with doing that? Not so much interested in using isopropyl or denatured, but I am interested in having the ability to use ethanol as that’s what I use in my alcohol stoves. Would be a good back up if I couldn’t get the other fuels.
