I’m absolutely disgusted & livid right now! Not only did I drop $1k at a vet visit, but I also dropped another $200 on Rx food & Rx that the vet said my Frenchie will need the rest of her life. I’m literally over it!!!! At this point I’m certain it’s the vet’s overzealous attitude of “she’s got to be on cytopoint & apaquel….blah, blah, blah” That caused this entire situation in the 1st place. I’m sick of it all 🤬 I should have stuck to my own advice & continue to stand my ground.

Thank you BOTH for this. I’ll be changing vets.

My Frenchie was diagnosed with elevated liver enzymes, had been on commercial dog food. I now cook for my dog.. I use chicken ( whole cooked deboned ), carrots, sweet potato and a little brown rice . Liver enzemes back to normal. Her bowel movements are now normal,,healthy as a horse. Very active..Also gets a vitamin daily.

@kv6826: Sometimes our own intuition is correct. I have intuitively felt too frequent bathing was not good. It just seemed logical if wolves were not bathing every 2 weeks, why would I be bathing my dog so often.
Recently I heard Dr. Judy say that frequent bathing (with or without commercial shampoo) strips the dog's skin of healthy bacteria.
So, if a Vet, can't give me evidence to support his/her opinion or definitive evidence for a diagnosis, I am not doing it.
I apply this belief to my human doctor as well.
Functional M.D for me and functional (D.V.M) for my dog.

The immune system has an important function. Why would we permanently shut it off?
Treating symptoms never solves the problem. The answer I need is what is the source of the problem, or at the very least how can the condition be reduced.
For instance, I might not ever know what caused my cancer, but I can know what cancer thrives on, and stop that.
    Cancer thrives on sugar.

My cat is allergic to peas and possibly cranberries. I did very extensive food trials for him and narrowed it down to these ingredients. I haven't fed him foods with these ingredients ever since, and his allergic sores never returned. He had frequent allergic skin sores for 6 years, the entire time I've cared for him, and I finally got rid of them by simply eliminating foods with peas and cranberries. It took me about 4 months of trials, meticulously recording all his symptoms and the ingredients in every food I gave him.

I had to chuckle when you mentioned Ken Berry- I have been listening to him, Dr Eric Berg, Dr Sten Ekberg, and a bunch of other keto and carnivore docs for several years-- low carb, whole 30, keto, and carnivore saved my life and these guys were the ones that educated me😊 you are a mirror image, but in the canine world! I'm a 30 year dog groomer, do all kinds of holistic, herbal, nutritional/natural things for myself and my dogs, and raised every domestic animal there is, and I was super happy to find you and hear you preaching the same things I do on a daily basis to my clients!😊❤❤❤

German veterinarian technician here. 25 years ago we were sent to attend a nutrition weekend by Hills. The speaker there was a previous cigarette salesman and just teached from a script. Every statement we made that this or that won’t work or is actually not true because we see it on the animals daily was shut down. After the first half day my colleagues and I left and refunded the spent money back to our hospital boss🤣. The food industry problem was always there

One of my cats is allergic to grains and probably preservatives and some thickeners. I was told by my vet that they wanted to put him on a rx diet, do many $$$ of testings along with meds . Yet were surprised when I said or we could save me alot of money and do an elimination diet and find out whats really going on other than the seasonal allergies. I even mentioned I'd learn how to make his food so he wouldn't get sicker. And the outrage that ensued was unbelievable and told how Id kill him not save him. Two yros later, after much reading, all kitties are fine on homemade and allergy kitty is only on the one he takes for seasonal allergies as needed.

If you've never worked at a food service with fryer vats used, you don't realize how bad the oil can get before it's changed out and the occasions when the discarded oil or grill grease can be contaminated with cleaning chemicals. You don't realize the number of food safety violations that occur on a regular basis in food service, including serving sanitizer (killing your gut microbiome) because the dishes weren't allowed to properly air dry.

Thank you for this conversation. My vet just told me I need to do this because my dog has allergies and dermatologists won't bother helping her until she does a food allergy trial. And then sent me a list of recommended kibble and wet foods from Royal Canin. She eats raw and gently cooked [already balanced for me] plus supplements like bone broth and raw goat milk/goat cheese. It doesn't make any sense to me, especially because my main concern is her chewing off her hair from paws and tail, which is acute. It seems way more likely to me she's having a reaction to an insect bite or maybe even stress. It's not every day all day so why would I willy nilly do a food trial on her before I even see a term. And why can't the term run diagnostics first? Why would I change such a massive thing as diet for 3+ months to maybe learn what the root cause is instead of doing food sensitivity tests or skin allergy tests first? That said I found you through Rachel Fusaro, who I watch religiously and in a video with Dr Hjlem, I learned that big brands are buying up vet practices...and long story short through some googling, I learned that mine is owned by petco.
So thank you. For everything you do. I love your shop [pet plate is amazing, project sudz is amazing] and thanks for sharing your knowledge. I am looking for a new holistic or integrative vet who doesn't treat me like a bad parent when I ask about dangers of Simparico Trio [which they push on me hard even though I told them I'm worried about seizures since the box literally says can cause them in dogs with or WITHOUT a history] and dangers of non-essential vaccines and over vaccinating.

Thank you for this video. My GSD has been on Apoquel and Cytapoint with no true relief. I am going to treat my boy like I have treated myself with a better diet. You are a GOD send. I knew changing my diet got rid of a lot of the issues I was having and I am going to try the same for my baby boy. I wish I had caught this sooner. He is not even 2 yrs old and having all of these issues. I have also started adding real food to his kibble and by month end he will be completely off of it. (He initially did not want to eat what he did not recognize, but I have been decreasing the kibble and he is 3/4 lightly cooked food now).

There is a journey ahead of us to pinpoint her allergies by trial and error rather than to follow the impossible standards her allergy results gave us. I had such a bad feeling about the HA food and am so glad I came across your videos so I can avoid even getting started. It will be difficult, but I would do anything for her. Thank you again.

Sooo many of our clients have food allergies with their dogs now and none have had clear success on hydrolyzed diet. Our dog got extremely worse on it as well. Raw diet has been the most successful. Unfortunately owners trust their vets recommendations too much without listening to what the dogs body is telling them…

I recently discovered my elderly dog has a bad reaction to lamb. It was the first time he's had it. Loose stool and obvious cramping with grunting when he pooped. He had a sensitivity testing a few years ago and lamb was indicated as a problem. I forgot about the result, but it was obviously on point, even though I understand this kind of test is not very accurate. Cod and goat were also indicated, with a mild reaction to pork. All other meats were okay. Corn, vinegar, tomatoes, and applies also. Just about every ready made food contains vinegar, so I guess I'm making his food at home now.

After trying multiple different brands and proteins that did not agree with our dog's GI tract (beef, chicken, and fish), we put her on Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein (HP). This DID almost immediately resolve her issues and has maintained her for over 1 year so far. That said, I still don't like the highly processed nature of the kibble and am in the process of trying to change her over to a quality lamb-based raw food diet. I want to see if she really has protein issues, or if it's more related to the extreme processing and additives. It's too soon to tell if this will work, but I did want to share an alternative real-life experience. By the way, I do not work for any pet food company, nor am I related to anyone who does. I just wanted to share my dog's story for those who may be in a similar situation.

My 17 year old cat was prescribed Hill's Prescription Diet z/d Skin/Food Sensitivities Original Flavor Dry Cat Food. The vet told me I also had to use a good probiotic.I am currently using Vital Planet Flora Cat Daily Probiotic Powder. The problem is that he always likes new food and does good for a while then he's back to having diarrhea and throwing up. he also likes for me to mix in a little wet food so I bought the same cat food in the wet form. I always mix a little dry and a little wet food with a little water and the probiotic to make a gravy like consistency. He won't eat the dry food otherwise. I worry now that you guys said about dry food being bad for the gut so I will switch him over to the wet for now then move him off. I know he's an old guy but he still has life in him. When he's feeling good he goes out into the wild (we live in the mountains), he plays and hunts. I haven't seen him eat any critters in a while but he loves to hunt pocket gophers. He leaves them for the birds to eat. The one thing I have noticed is, He used to always have eye boogers that I had to clean off of him now his eyes are clean and he's grooming himself better.
I just want him to feel good now in his old age and at the same time not break my pocket book.
one 8.5lb bag is $75 lasts a little over a month
5 cans was $35 last a little over a month
one container of probiotic is $30 last 1 month
    $135 monthly

Is there any article I can learn about food trial? My cat has this problem of excessive salivation very randomly and after a year of treatment, one day she had seizure and the vet tried phenobarbital. It is doing fine but recently occasionally she would crash, excessive salivation, messy CBC test results and all. So we try a different diagnosis of food allergy, because every time she salivates, her jaw is inflamed too so we start her on the antibiotic and hydrolyzed food. I cant find wet hydrolyzed food so only kibbles, which I deeply don’t believe it is a long term solution. So I really want to help my cat restore her immune system properly. Any resources I can learn about rehabilitation of cat immune system/gut health or something?

Have you tried giving freeze dried raw straight out of the bag as if it’s kibble? That’s what I did with a few of my cats that refused to go off of the kibble they learned to eat in the shelter. Of course, that way you have to make sure they get plenty of water and fluids, since they’re not getting it in their food. Just keep trying lots of things and eventually they will learn.

They’re corrupt and brainwashed at the hands of big pharma. A sick patient is a patient for life!

They listen to what the reps tell them. The reps are trained by their companies and they only care about money!!! I was in the veterinary pharmaceutical industry as a rep so I know firsthand!! I was appalled at some of the companies!!

This is an example of sincere bias blindness. They can say all this, most of it misleading, but can they explain why traditional (real) veterinarians see such great results? By the thousands? It’s pretty sad.

Sorry but my Bernese is doing Great on Hill's GI Biome. I fell for all the boutique marketing thinking that stuff was Superior. It was making my girl so sick. She had real health issues and my conventional vet saved her life. I lost respect for you because you sold out to make $$$. You know that there are some animals that need these foods to live.

Yeah, Elizabeth, thats whst the government told us in 2020 about the Covid vaccine.
Consider this: Humans and dogs don't always fall ill immediately. That does not mean they are not being injured. Many people appear healthy and active most their lives, then get cancer. That cancer did not happen from something we did yesterday.
If I do not know the health or ill health potential of every single comercial dog food ingredient, like soy, why assume its good for my dog?
Silence from the medical community for years on carbohydrates, and the false narrative that animal fat makes us fat and clogs arteries. Complete silence on sugar.
We should all examine why we believe what we do.

Sure it was…. The ingredients in these recipes definitely can be made better.. it’s just sad. Don’t think there’s anything wrong with conventional vets.. they just aren’t as knowledgeable about diets because it isn’t taught as in depth during their schooling. (I believe that is what Judy talks about)

My dog died from Hill's prescription diet, not from the health issue he was put on the food for. So, something wasn't good, there.

@@steven469 it was definitely related to the previous brand of food that was excess in fat and didn't have enough fiber. My dog has a health condition and needs a lower fat and higher fiber content.

@@song8777 I'm sorry for your loss. What food were you feeding? Why do you think it was the food and not the health condition it was prescribed for?
