    These stories, caught or not, are what fishing is all about in the end, great times to have, experiences to learn from, moments to cherish not only with your loved ones, family and friends but also with future generations because we're inspired all our lives by older stories that are benchmarks (what a great name your boat has) that make us wanna chase these dream fishes even more. As you explained so well, it"s hard to switch from release mode to kill mode that quick especially after releasing that many fishes most of the time. Like in music, playing jazz for a long time and then quicly have to switch to hard rock is not easy to do. The Ocean has its ways to remind us it's a constant adventure and why we love it so much. Excellent content as always, keep on inspiring.

    Chris, the stories and videos are great during these winter months. So much heart break on the pulled ons. Your channel deserves 100 thousand plus subscribers because you are spreading the knowledge you have gained from HI and the South Pacific. I wish you continued good health and dream of the day I can make it to Kona to fish with you. Stay strong and good luck with GZ Lures.

      @waterman241 i do have a particular story fishing the KHBT IN 1989, I got inducted into the underwater wiremans club. Gaffman missed the gaff on a 500 lb Black marlin gaffed it in the gills, fish went crazy jumped away, dumped my wraps but right hand wraps never released got handcuffed and 500 lb leader half hitched my wrist and glove and cut through my skin to the bone and overboard i went. I was known as Aquaman, I survived and we caught the fish and it's all on video. I still have the video on a disc

    Great stories . It must be quite something to hook into a fish of that size. Sometimes it’s not meant to be and boat the fish. There are still the memories of that late afternoon and the one that got away.

    Haha well the memory strikes again,
    Lure Spread:
    Short Corner:Aloha Lures sundowner (tony chacheres)
    Long Corner: Black Bart Blue Breakfast Pink Head Southern Destiny 1025 special (black and pink skirts)
    Short Rigger: Tantrum XL Bandit Kona Cut aka Rick from Arizona
    Long Rigger: Aloha Lures Baby smash purple head
    Stinger: Tantrum Large Bullet Feathersword Edition
    Left side: Firetailz dredge
    Right Side Teaser: Pink squid chain followed by the Extra large dog lure (blue and yellow skirts, white bottom/black top head)
    The only one I'm unsure about is the long rigger. I know for certain the feathersword was on stinger because we were testing it out there'd we caught the smaller fish on it a bit later in the day. And we hadn't pulled the tournament smash out yet on the long so i think we were working with baby smash there but we also could've had magic malolo out that day for a spear. However, the rest of the lineup I'm 1000 percent on
    A fish I will never forget and one of the best memories of my life. Don't blame yourself Crispy, you played our cards expertly that day, we just had a full house and the fish had a straight flush. You crushed it the whole time on the wheel and I have no regrets brother. Reminds me of all the great days we have had out there together

      Hey Nick - I took notes that day on the spread, and I had the long rigger as a bandit, but maybe I got it wrong LOL! But you are correct for sure the stinger was the feathersword, bc we hooked the smaller one like one minute after we set the spread after the big one I remember you hadn't even stowed the gaff yet LOL). Anyway - thank you, Nick, to you and Capt for the experience. I will never forget it. We were talking about barbeque, and then you bolted out of your seat and yelled "Big shadow! Big shadow on the short corner!", and we were on from there LOL

    Enjoyed the stories Chris. I was wondering if when you are planing up that 700 that died, that you are doing max drag driving into the Current (not with the current) to get it to come up, is that right? I’ve had them go down deep before, and not sure what’s the right plan of action sometimes. Thanks for your help!

    • @waterman241
      @waterman241  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Basically if you are going kinda of into it the current will help raise the fish. If it’s consistent with the top current it can usually help however sometimes you get a split down deep you may not be aware of and that’s when you notice all your efforts to plane the fish up are failing eventually you’ll find that current and direction that seems to work to plane the fish up and then you ah e to stick with it until of course the fish lifts up to the split
