    I recently read that the income minimum is $2900 (USD). We've lived in Morelia, Michoacan for almost two years.
    Busses in Morelia cost less than 5.00 (10 pesos) each way.
    As far as violence is concerned, I agree. We've had NO experience with violence in Mexico, so I agree. Violence occurs every in the world. I'm from Reno, Nevada and my wife is from Mexico City. As long as you stay away from the wrong people, and mind your own business, Mexico is an incredible place.
    Nice Video. VIVA MEXICO 🇲🇽

      Thanks for watching and commenting. I’m glad you enjoyed Morelia. We still have to get there for a visit. And, yes…I have read where you can get Temporary Residency if you earn $2500 a month. It depends on which consulate you go to. Some require proof of more income than others.
      Where are you living now?

      @@lwalkerphd We live just outside of City Central, in Morelia. We're lucky enough to find a beautiful home, with a low rent ($400 USD). With the other living cost advantages, we live a very good life on just my Social Security.
      I did a lot of research prior to our move, which helped. I've been keeping up on the topics you addressed in your video. Good job!
      Another thing that helped us, is my wife is a Mexican citizen, which immediately puts me in the fast track to citizenship. Because of her status, I'm not bound by income minimums. We've been here almost 2 years. The best move I've ever made. Beautiful city, beautiful people, beautiful culture...

    Hey there Louisa. Michael I have to say it looks like you've adapted pretty quickly and you're looking pretty chill. I've only been living here a few months and I can't say enough about how nice the people are. Nobody seems to be in hurry....that is unless they're driving!! If you make even an effort to learn just little bit of Spanish they are very helpful and will laugh with you when finally get something right. All of my friends from the LA area were concerned about my decision to move here and the first thing they ask about is my safety. I've traveled down into some pretty remote and sketchy places in Baja to surf for over forty something years and knew what it's really all about. It seems to be a lot of hype to keep the people that seem to need it, to be afraid of something/anything. There is the Tourist Police, the Municipal Police, the world famous Federales and the National guard. Yeah I always feel very safe and yes I walk around the town at night. The food is another one of those things I could get carried away with talking about. Being Vegan you guys must really appreciate the freshness of the right out the garden produce. BTW- The streets are only "Dangerous" if you you aren't watching where you step!

    Very good tips on Mexico. I worked in Monterrey MX for a year and a half. I truly loved Mexico, for the most part people were very friendly. That being said every where there are humans you can find bad people. I was in charge of opening a new factory so I definitely got to see some of the horrors that the average traveler wouldn’t of see. Dealing with the Mexican government can be a major challenge. Our plant was in a newer industrial park in San Pedro, and they had crazy rules. I had no idea that Mexico had unions and the first rule was I could only use the same union as every other plant in that industrial park. The industrial park was in charge of setting the pay scale of every employee in my plant. It took me six months to find the right person to pay off in the utility company to turn on the power to the plant. Our employees were amazing people I would do it all over again instantly. I loved going to work each morning just because everyone was so positive and friendly.
    Working in such a huge city so close to the US border I saw live the horrors from the drug cartel. I learned street smarts very fast. I remember we use to go to a local mall down the street from the industrial park frequently for lunch at their food court. One night I was getting ready to go out for supper and watching the local news and the mall we went to for lunch at that afternoon had been targeted by the cartel. Seven guys with automatic weapons shot up that same food court we had lunch at thirty minutes earlier. Thank god we weren’t still there.
    I can’t tell you how many times on the way to the plant I would see hanging bodies of rival drug cartel people.
    The best thing about Mexico was definitely the friendly people. I made some lifelong friendships. It reminded me of traveling through Europe and how important family is. Down there it’s all about respect of your elders and your family. It’s not uncommon to see multiple generations of family in line at a restaurant at 11:00pm for dinner for some special occasion.
    The other thing I enjoyed was the all of the soccer matches so much local patriotism to their favorite teams. If you’re going to Mexico and your going to visit a bigger city I highly recommend going to a soccer match if you’ve never been, it’s totally amazing especially if you’ve never experienced a European football match.

    That figure you quoted for getting a permanent residency is very high. I would imagine that a small percentage of Americans or Canadians can show a pension with that amount or have so much in their bank account.

    • @lwalkerphd
      @lwalkerphd  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. That figure is high and it goes up every year. We hear that the Mexican government wants to make sure that new residents don’t become a burden on their economy.

    • @astralafond8299
      @astralafond8299 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree those pension amounts are crazy high, especially, with the exchange rate. Wouldn’t that amount put you in the top 1% of citizens. If you can live incredibly comfortable with $1000 US per month (twice what the average Mexican citizens earns) then why would the government require more than 4x that amount to gain residency? They really can’t use “burden on the system” as an excuse if someone has a $1500 pension.

      We love the jungle and ocean nearby but it’s mostly the easy access to vegan restaurants and the wonderful people. What is considered flashy? I don't wear much jewelry other than my diamond engagement and wedding ring set, sometimes pearl or diamond studs. Is it the number of jewelry worn or the size of the diamond on a traditional engagement ring. I don't have context. I live in Southern California in an area where my jewelry is not considered that flashy, at all. I don't live in one of the mega mansions around my area lol If we moved there would I have to just place my things in a safety deposit or is that ridiculous? Cause that sounds ridiculous to me. Or are we talking, tennis bracelets and massive stones, Gucci from head to toe kind of flashy? Also, I can't imagine there aren't places in Mexico, like DF and Monterrey where people are dressed to the nines (and 9 figures lol) Mexico is pretty big, where do these rules apply?

    • @lwalkerphd
      @lwalkerphd  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Flashy in this context would mean not wearing a lot of jewelry ie. tennis bracelets, gold chains, and anything else that makes you stand out as someone who has a lot of money. I wear a couple of rings and earrings and haven’t had any issues. I think what you said you wear would be fine.

      Hola. Thanks for watching our video. I can only answer your questions based on our experience. Mostly we understand that we can’t use Medicare here in Mexico. As for residency, I think Tijuana has different expectations for people living there after 6 months. Do you have a tourist visa that you have to renew every 6 months? Sorry but I don’t know how to help with that question. We got our residency cards because we live far away from the border and didn’t want to have to worry about going back to the states to get another tourist permit
