Hey nice video...i bought the trail sports my self, but i kinda fell like the pressurepoint on rear brake comes too late, can u say, what the usual levertravel on the rear brake is like? That would help me a lot...greets sarah
Hi Sarah... I wouldn't say that I hav noticed a "late" preasure point on the rear at all. Even in comparison to other sets of brakes I've used. Although... Having run a few different disks in combination with the Trail Sports... I have notoced a difference in feel and power. Do you run the brand and model disks on both ends ofthe bike?
@@TrailTales yes i do, i run rhe trail sport as it comes, in combination with mdr-c cl 180mm rotors, the ones magura recommends.. ...i was on shimano before, maybe i need to get used to the breaks...🤔 When i rewatched the vid like 10th time, i realized on point one can see what ur lever travel is like, looks pretty much the same on my brakes...but on my front brake i get pressure point on less lever travel...thats why im confused...maybe i should have gone for the mt5...🤔 Thanks a lot for ur answer and help, thats very kind... wish a chilled out sunday and good start into next week for u and ur folks.! 😘
@@sarahbraun2496 Oh... OK... Now I follow you... Maybe try clicking the lever out a bit more with the lever position grub screw in the front of the lever... It's a little hex-screw. I usually adjust them out so that the "bite point" is in the same place on both sides. Give that a try and let me know... If that doesn't help... it might just need a bleed...
@@TrailTales sure thats a good advice to get the brakepoint further away from handlebar, but its kinda weird to have the levers on diffrent distance to the handlebar( even as u hardly can see it😅) ...if i got u right u have both lever on max travel(?), so when u pull em to brakepoint, will they be on same distance to handlebar or is it diffrent? ..and thanks a lot again for ur help😊
@@sarahbraun2496 Yes... I like my bite point to be a bit further away from the bars. So when the levers are dialled all the way out, the bite point is where I want it... And it's near enough as makes no difference the same on both sides... If I need to adjust the levers to get the bite point the same... Then the difference in lever position when the brakes aren't being pulled doesn't bother me because I "pull" the levers slightly when covering the brakes... Fortnine did a REALLY good video on covering the brakes. It's for motorbikes, but the theory and physics behind it (and how it affects traction under braking) are the same for MTB. Might be worth checking out . And then... If you still cant get it feeling right. It might need a bleed.
Thank you for the great review. These brakes came on my hardtail. I wanted to like these brakes. My 4 pot front would never dial in. It was noisy with modulation issues. My mechanic worked on it as did I. Finally got the rear dialed in but the front was never smooth and quiet. Busted my rear brake lever in a bad crash and changed to Shimano XT.
I have noticed that the Trail Sports (and Magura in general I believe)do behave differently with differnt disk rotors... My brothers set "shudder" a bit due to the rotor he has, and my current front rotor has a different feel to the old rotor I needed to replace (old one got bent when I travelled with my bike in the summer)... So that could have been the difference in experience... Just a though... Thanx for watching mate! Really appreciate it... And have a good week!
Man I really enjoyed the layout and delivery of this review. I’ve been so close several times purchasing these exact brakes but for no reason I didn’t . I love a soft brake and like them to work with out skidding as soon as you touch them. In fact guys who ride my bike love but hate how soft my levers are. I do ride the brakes I’ll be honest lol. Would you recommend them for someone of my liking and needs in a brake? Thanks for sharing this video I found it superb . Have fun on your bike trip 🤙
Eek... Recommending something is always tough because everyone has different preferences... But these are not on/off brakes. There's a really good amount of control in them. Which is noice! I mean... I did get two sets... And my brother also got a set for his bike. So there is that... :D Also... Thanx for the kind words and for watching! Really appreciate it... :D
You could... If you swap them out (the 4 pot comes pre-installed on the long hose and the 2 pot on the short), and do a bleed. Although I couldn't imagine why you'd prefer that. A vast majority of your stopping power comes off the front so it's better to have the more powerful stopper up front...
@@TrailTales Thanks for the info :) The beginner in me is saying I need quad for the rear and dual for the front so I don't go OTB if that makes sense 😂 anyway I was about to go with the mt5 but I think I like the 1 finger lever on the mt trail.. @@jerrybondoc9328 No worries mate.... I've been really happy with mine so far. They're a great set of brakes. :D
@@TrailTales yes i do, i run rhe trail sport as it comes, in combination with mdr-c cl 180mm rotors, the ones magura recommends..
...i was on shimano before, maybe i need to get used to the breaks...🤔
When i rewatched the vid like 10th time, i realized on point one can see what ur lever travel is like, looks pretty much the same on my brakes...but on my front brake i get pressure point on less lever travel...thats why im confused...maybe i should have gone for the mt5...🤔
Thanks a lot for ur answer and help, thats very kind... wish a chilled out sunday and good start into next week for u and ur folks.!
Nice riview, thanks for sharing. New friend from Indonesia. Success for your channel 👍
Cheers mate!! Really appreciate the support... Thanx for stopping by and watching. :D
Also... Thanx for the kind words and for watching! Really appreciate it... :D
Nice video keep sharing

Have a good weekend mate.
Can i mount the quad piston caliper as a rear brake then the dual piston for the front?
You could... If you swap them out (the 4 pot comes pre-installed on the long hose and the 2 pot on the short), and do a bleed. Although I couldn't imagine why you'd prefer that. A vast majority of your stopping power comes off the front so it's better to have the more powerful stopper up front...
@@TrailTales Thanks for the info :) The beginner in me is saying I need quad for the rear and dual for the front so I don't go OTB if that makes sense 😂 anyway I was about to go with the mt5 but I think I like the 1 finger lever on the mt trail.. Mt7 are out of budget and replacing the mt5 levers are an added cost. Thanks for this review and answering my question.
@@mickeelacerna4511 No worries mate... I'd still go 4-pot up front though. The modulation on the Trail Sports is really nice and you'll appreciate that extra power up front as you progress. Glad you liked the vid man. And keep me up-dated which way you decide to go... :D
are you in rotenfels in germany?
@@Hellcat98 yes.
Do you think these will work well with a super73?
I don't know anything about a super73... Had a quick look online, but couldn't (easily) find the brake specs for it. From the pictures it looks like they use a very different lever to standard MTB brakes... So I really wouldn't be sure mate...
@@TrailTales Yeah I wasn't to find the specs either, thanks for trying though.
@@CheeseCream1205 No worries mate... :D
And where are my new brakes? :P
I've till got those C1's that came off the enduro if you feel like murdering yourself?!? I still can't figure out why nobody took me up on the offer of getting them off of me for free... Hahahah
Would you still recommend them?
I do... I am in fact planning on swapping a set I have onto my new bike as I much prefer these to the brakes the new bike came with.
@@TrailTales that’s good, I have the budget Shimano 4 pots, they stop okay but I’m not a fan of the brake levers, I assume the plastic mounts on the Magura haven’t been a problem for you?
@@molley17 No... Haven't have any issues with them. They don't have "connectors" on them though. So you will need additional connectors for your dropper and shifter... They don't cost much though. Around €12 or so...
@@TrailTales brilliant thanks, I am going to give them a go
So I am standing between these maguras or sram code. I have started to race downhill so I need something powerfull but so it won't empty my wallet.
It's always a tough one trying to eek out the best on a budget... 've not had a good go on the codes so I'd not like to put my hat on the table as to which is the more powerful... But these MT Trails do a good job at stopping a person. The ability to "add" a bit of extra stop through using the "race" pads is also nice...
Also... Thanx for watching and the comments...
Really thanks for the answer. It is very hard to pick parts like brakes. Bc nealy everything is so simular, but not shimano they are guchi af
@@izabelalidzbarska1657 Hahaha... If you think Shimano are Gucchi... Don't go looking at Trick Stuff... :D
Dude your boring and not cool but thanks for the review!
